A perfect book for Bookclub discussions!

A derailing story of relationships and secrets between the housekeepers and the house owners. When a particular "X" event comes to light, Mrs King decides it's time for revenge. With the upcoming ball, everyone is on their toes. Only a few of them are busy instead of planning a heist!

The book does a great job of building up the Suspense. For the most part of the book, that kept me wondering, why are they doing this? The reason is the key info to piece together the mystery. I would have enjoyed it more if the latter of the book was also equally scrupulous. However, I felt it was a bit easygoing, making things just happen. Yet I did have a good time reading this one and did find the book a good one-time read. Also, I do feel this would do good as a book club read as it has a lot of perspectives to be discussed and questioned.

This was an well narrated novel and definitely one that will appeal to anyone who enjoys historical fiction, especially that set in early 1900s London. A group of con women decide to pull off the heist of the decade by emptying one of the richest houses in Mayfair on the evening of a ball held in the house. As the story unfolds it becomes apparent that the various women involved have their own reasons for pulling off this heist.
I read this very quickly, although I struggled to accept some of the logistics of the heist. there were, however, some clever touches which I did not see coming.
Overall, this book does what it says on the tin - so if you like the sound of the blurb, I am sure you will find it a thoroughly enjoyable read.
Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for the Advanced Reader copy in return for an honest review.

Cutthroat capers and daring plans.

A thrilling heist novel with an underlying scream of fury at the constraints and injustices heaped upon this motley group of women.

I really enjoyed this book and there were some excellent parts however I felt it fell flat once the heist actually got underway and I wasn't fully invested in any of the characters in the end.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the eARC

I enjoyed this. Entirely unrealistic, entirely unbelievable characters, yet jam packed with wit. I marked 3 stars as I was expecting something of a fairly serious historic fiction from the blurb, but as I say I found it genuinely amusing.

Enjoyed the writing, and the narration.

Thank you to NetGalley and Headline review for the opportunity to listen to thus audiobook in return for an honest review.

Fans of Upstairs, Downstairs and Guy Ritchie films will absolutely love this! I always think there’s not enough stories from the ‘Downstairs’ perspective, well this book delivers in spades. A heist, an intrigue, the best silver, a ball - what’s not to like?!

Ahhh I just loved this audio! I absolutely loved the premise of the heist - this was such a fun historical fiction - it was like an early 20th century Oceans 8! The women of this story were such a force to be reckoned with and they were a complete vibe - such empowerment goals.

The narrative was engaging and I was gripped as the plan unfurled bit by bit - the story had the suspense absolutely nailed. The story is told from various perspectives of the women involved in the story making it a great way to drip feed aspects of the story.

If you like cosier thrillers, historical fiction and badass women then this one could be for you!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my audio copy of this story.

‘They came from nothing. But they’ll leave with everything’. This audiobook sweeps us into 1905 in an affluent house on Park Lane, London. Mrs King has just been fired from her post as housekeeper. Upstairs, the owner of the affluent house has just died and his daughter. Miss de Vries has now assumed his role and has decided to throw a lavish society ball Downstairs, Mrs King has gathered trustworthy loyal servants and acquaintances together to organise a heist on the night of the ball to take all the treasures Miss de Vries owns and clear the house out while everyone is partying upstairs Jasmine Blackborow who narrates this audiobook does such a marvellous job of each and every character it was like I was actually there as part of the heist. She really brought Mrs Bone, Mrs King, Winnie and Miss de Vries to life to name but a few. Exceptional! This is an entertaining read, quite unlike anything I’ve ever encountered before and was fun and action packed. Thank you Headline Audio and Netgalley for my copy.

Thanks NetGalley and publishers for the audio arc of The housekeepers by Alex Hay.

'The story started off a little slow and I had to listen to the first 2 chapters twice before I understood what was going on …. After that it truly switched to fast-paced intrigue.
