Pretty good ecofiction. Somewhat timely topics covered with a good plot and interesting characters. A little slow at times, but necessarily a bad thing.
I really appreciate the free copy for review!!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley.
I have to be honest here. I really wasn't too sure if I'd enjoy this book due to the main plot line. Nature as a subject line doesn't intrigue me as much as the next. BUT this book was indeed well-written.
I did enjoy the "pandemic" subject of the book. The book was a LITTLE slow for me in some areas, but it was also pure chaos in other areas.
Overall, the book was just okay for me. Nothing amazing, but enjoyable enough to finish I suppose.
I enjoyed this unusual novel which, combined a ultra naturalistic story of a young woman, forced to live with relatives in the Britishcountry during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic with a spooky story of dreams related to an old tree. It’s always difficult to combine realism with fantasy, but I felt that this book managed to do this quite nicely and I love the feeling that trees could somehow communicate with us. The concept that trees live through many human lifestyles as it has such a long life of its own, allows the tree to see the damage that we are doing to nature through climate change.
The elements of the story that I most enjoyed. However, it was the naturalistic story and then found that it brought back a few nice memories. I personally had of the lockdown which was all being able to view nature in a slower fashion.
The author has a clear easily read flowing prose style which was a pleasure to read.
The authors characterisation is very real, and felt that I had met people like those that she describes in my own life. The main character is the author has a number of minor characters who were all just as perfectly described
I would recommend the book to those who like subtle, magical realism, and who are at the stage where they are able to read about the pandemic without finding it to triggering.
