An interesting read, not really sure who it was aimed for.

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.

Whilst not as engrossing as Moran's books on being female/a feminist in the current age this book was an interesting read and gave me pause for thought several times.

After reading Caitlin Moran’s previous books I was glad to be approved for this one. I have read a few feminist books about the behaviour of men so this was an interesting take. The only criticism would be that it is not clear who the book is aimed at. I can’t imagine men reading this, and if they did it would be too late. Aiming towards parents of boys seems like a better option.

I love her column in The Times and her take on the word at large but this book was disappointing. Her view of men was unoriginal and I could not relate to it. She perpetuates the laddette culture based around her friendship group and the twitterati.

There is a lack of research and many generalisations and I did not even find it that funny. I will still continue to read her columns this this left me cold I am afraid.

I love Caitlin Moran. I have (and will continue to do so) read everything she has written that I can get my grubby little hands on. I want to be her. Yep, I am a fangirl. Therefore, there was never a doubt that I was going to read What About Men? I did, and I enjoyed it.

I love Moran's style. She pushes the boundaries but always retains the empathy needed to look at both sides of the coin. She looks at one argument and then carefully considers the other. I always find her writing balanced and fair.

Would I say it is my favourite book by Caitlin Moran? Probably not but I think that comes from my preference of her just writing about stuff. I could imagine that Caitlin Moran could write a brilliant piece about shoelace aglets and I would be thoroughly enthralled. This is not to say that What About Men isn't great. It is. And what should be celebrated is that she is opening to door on a conversation that has needed to happen for a very long times.

What About Men? is the shy and retiring Caitlin Moran's insights into masculinity, a change from her usual feminist tracts prompted by questions at various live appearances.
Ms Moran is well-known for her feminist views but as she says at the beginning of this book she's certainly no man-hater, far from it. This is a book for any gender, I don't suppose I was the only male thinking,"so it's not just me then" as the myth that males breeze through life confident and assured from a very early age is explored and shown to be exactly that for most,a myth. From what seems now to be the almost brutal upbringing many of us older chaps endured to today's young people with all kinds of toxic disinformation and mind-warping web content at their fingertips, Ms Moran's subjects speak in a honest an open manner. It's partly because of those influences that this is such an important book, Ms Moran tell of how 2 of the most notorious online misogynists are damaged people, which is very sad,who are damaging impressionable other people, which is truly tragic and deeply worrying.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, from what I know of Ms Moran I hoped it wouldn't be a bit of jokey "bloke-bashing". It's not,it's very far from that,it's compassionate, thoughtful, insightful and sympathetic. It's also very funny,a bit too "sweary" for my tastes but I got enough out of it to let that go over my head.
Ourstanding.

A must read for everyone!
I have read and loved several of Caitlin Moran's feminist nonfiction/memoir books and so I was so intrigued when I saw the promotion about her latest one, about men!
It is incredible, taking so many aspects of the experience of boys and men and really honestly dissecting what issues and judgements they face. As a mum of sons, I have felt the truth in so many of the issues covered already and it is important this aspect of experience is understood, particularly how the very few who wield power in patriarchal systems do so to the detriment of both women AND men. I was snorting with laughter at so many parts, and tugs of deep sadness in others. I know so many amazing, incredible, funny, supportive, loyal boys and men and I wholeheartedly hope that change is coming for all of us so these become exactly the type of people that get more of a place in shaping the world
