A solid physiological thriller, keeps you guessing. I felt it was abit rushed towards the end with areas that I didn’t feel got completely explained, but I enjoyed it never the less.

“The New Wife" by JP Delaney can be summed up as an addictive and well-crafted thriller that will leave readers breathless until the very end.

I’m a big fan of JP Delaney and particularly his last book “Darling daughter”. “The new wife” is a quick read but has a slow burn. The Mallorcan setting gives a holiday feel to the tangled web inspired by Daphne Du Maurier.

When Finn Hensen gets a call from his sister Jess to say that his father had died, neither is heartbroken. Their parents divorced many years ago., after which their father, Jimmy. continued to live a bohemian lifestyle in sun-soaked Mallorca, while his family returned to the UK. Ownership of his home, a beautiful but dilapidated farmhouse in the mountains, now passes to Finn and his sister. The only problem is that Jimmy recently married for the third time., and his wife, Ruensa, is still living there. The pair agree that Finn should go to Mallorca and tactfully take possession of their inheritance.

This fast-paced thriller had me quickly turning the pages. I was instantly pulled in. Hess and Finn's father has passed away. It's decided that Finn will travel to Mallorca to his father's home to sort out hos estate. But when he gets there, all is not what he expected. His father's third wife and daughter are still living there. Can Finn persuade her to leave? There is suspicion, obsession and manipulation in this well written book. None of the characters were likeable, but they were well developed. There are twists and turns and by the time near the end of the story, everything you thought you had worked out will be wrong.

When Finn and Jess hear of their father’s death at their childhood finca in Mallorca, they are in no hurry to return to their past. Their father was a poor parent and they have no fond memories of him. However, it is decided that Finn should go out there to tell the latest wife that the property belongs to him and his sister, and she has no claim on the property.
With the police investigating his father’s death and Finn falling in love with his step-sister, he foresees a new idyllic life with the three of them living and working in harmony, but that’s not how everyone sees the situation, including Jess, who wants half the money from the sale of the finca.
I really enjoyed this book, reading it in two days and finishing in the early hours of the morning, because I could not put it down. Great characters, complicated relationships and an unexpected ending, this book is an excellent read.

Ive read books by this author before and enjoyed every single one of them and this was no exception,! Lots of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. Definitely worth reading!

Now the farmhouse that Jimmy owned, Finca Siquia, has passed to them both and they decide to sell, all Finn needs to do is go to Mallorca and take possession of the house from Ruensa, Jimmy's new wife, who currently lives there, this isn't as straightforward as he expected though as, when he arrives, he discovers her twenty seven year old daughter Roze is also living there and the police are asking questions about Jimmy's death...

The New Wife is the latest thriller by Delaney and, whilst this one is more of a slow burn compared to the author's previous books, it is no less intriguing and compelling. With the beautiful setting of Mallorca and some very unreliable, and not particularly likeable, characters, Delaney takes us on a journey where we never really know what the end game is for any of them. The twist, when it came, was unexpected and revealed some rather interesting details about one character in particular, which I didn't see coming. This was another edge of your seat read from Delaney, which I finished in a matter of hours.

For me this was a solid 4 star book. I loved the pace and couldn't wait to find out what was really happening. The reason I don't give it 5 stars is that one of the twists was a bit unexpected, although I think the reader should have at least slightly guessed it.
I will definitely read more books from this author.

When Jess rings her brother Finn, to let him know their Dad has died, she tells him he has to go to Mallorca as the house is their inheritance and she wants to sell it.

With their Dad’s widow and stepdaughter living in the house, things are not going to be easy for Finn. Especially as they have nowhere to go. As Finn learns more about the women, he doesn’t feel he can turf them out.

The story was quite slow but enjoyable. The descriptive writing meant that I felt as though I was there in Mallorca.

The characters were not overly likeable and I struggled to take to them.

I loved the ending, it was not what I was expecting at all.

The new wife, Jess and Finn receive the news that their estranged father has died in is home in Majorca. They haven’t yet met his new wife but Finn flys out there to meet her and arrange the legalities of their fathers finca as it actually belongs to Jess and Finn.
While he is there he begins building a relationship with the new wife and her daughter but at the same time is hearing his fathers death might not have been accidental.
This story for me was slow, predictable and left the ending open to interpretation. I like JP Delaneys books but sadly this one wasn’t for me.

Finn and Jess have received news that their father is dead. It doesn't upset them as their parents divorced years ago and their father continued to live in Mallorca while they returned to the UK.
His house will pass to Finn and Jess but he had recently remarried and his wife, Ruensa, lives there.
Jess and Finn agree that Finn is to go out there and claim their inheritance.
However, when he arrives he finds a restored farmhouse and fields of crops. Ruensa is helped by her daughter but the Police are suspicious of his father's death.
Are they innocent or is there something more sinister happening and what will Finn do?

Finn returns to Mallorca after his fathers death to sell the house that was left to him and his sister after his dad`s first marriage ended in divorce as a settlement returning to them after their fathers death, only his father had married for the third time and their stepmother and her 27yr old daughter is still living in the house.
The house and land had totally changed for the better paid for by the stepmother, the plot thickens and is the stepmother going to leave the house with nowhere to go or does she have something else in mind, and how actually did the father die?
As the plot thickens everything gets confusing and seems to go downhill and you still don`t know what happened to the plot which was disappointment.

It's a good thriller but there's a sort weird final part that I loved. It kept me on the edge and surprised with the twists but the last part was nearly lisergic.
A bit slow at the beginning, great descriptions of Palma that made me wish I was there

The New Wife takes place in a villa in Mallorca and centres around Finn who goes to claim his father’s house after his death. The house is occupied by his father’s third wife, Ruensa and her daughter, Roze who Finn needs to evict before he can sell the villa. As the story develops it appears that both women may be hiding something and the circumstances around Finn’s father’s death are thrown into question.

This book was the perfect summer thriller and I absolutely adored the setting in Mallorca. I loved that throughout the story you had no idea which characters to believe and Finn made the perfect unreliable narrator. The plot twist in the last 20% of the book completely caught me by surprise.

My only minor criticism of this book is the fact that Finn and his sister referred to each other as ‘bro’ and ‘sis’ which was slightly cringeworthy.

Overall this thriller would be perfect to read by the beach and was an extremely quick and enjoyable read!

I have read and enjoyed several of JP Delaney's previous stand alone thrillers and had high hopes for this. Unfortunately as the novel progressed the pace slowed and Finn's character became boring and bordering on the ridiculous. For me, the last 25% of the book was as if it was written by a different author for a different book. Finns personality seemed to change and the final hallucinatory chapters were too far fetched to fit with the rest of the story. I was glad I actually finished the book but was left feeling underwhelmed and vaguely confused about all the neat, tidy endings.

JP Delaney has a real talent for making his books move at pace - and this latest offering is no different.

A Spanish location, marriage and the strength of the power of love leaves you second guessing right till the end…..and even then, I’m not even sure I got it right!

Definitely one to add to your summer suitcase for those lazy days by the pool!

After the death of Finn and Jess’s father, Finn goes to his father’s home in Mallorca to sort out the inheritance legalities. The problem is, his father’s new wife and daughter (Ruensa and Roze) are now living there. Are Ruensa and Roze genuine or are they after the house for themselves?!

I love books where people fight over money and I love this author so I was very excited for this one. I felt the vibe was different from the authors usual books and I love how to cover has colour in it!

I found the first three quarters easy to fly through and gripping. I was eagerly awaiting a massive twist and the author just randomly drops a massive, random, unexpected bombshell.

From then onwards, the story gets very weird and I am still undecided yet if it’s a very good weird or a very bad weird! Overall, I enjoyed this one but it’s not my favourite from this author.

Fabulous read! So many twists and turns that leave you guessing at the end, but not in a frustrating way some other novels can do. The writing is so descriptive that you can feel the heart of the island, the gritty roads, the scary drive up to the finca, the coolness of the water in the pool. Thoroughly recommend.

After the death of there father Finn and Jess inherit his farmhouse in Spain, the two decide that it is best for Finn to fly out to Spain to meet their fathers wife and step daughter and to organise the sale of the house. Upon his arrival the police inform Finn that they are looking into his fathers death as they believe it to have been under suspicious circumstances.

When I started this book I honestly thought it was going to be a five star read, but then the pacing just got very slow and I was finding myself bored reading it. Finn was a very frustrating character and at one point in the book I found myself shouting out loud and having to put the book down. About 70% into the book the pacing picked up and the twists kept me engaged. Overall I gave this book 3 stars and I look forward to reading more books by the same author.
