Love all Rosie Clarke books and this is no exception, remember the tissues, this is an emotional read, highly recommended.

18 year old Jane finds herself and her sister without parents and any support. Forced to go into service as a nanny Jane finds her true vocation as the war starts and she becomes a nurse on the front lines. Can she find herself and love at the same time?

Jane Shaw looks after her brother after her mother become unwell and unable to care for him. He sadly does and then her mother also passes away.

Jane and her sister are looked after by Alice , their not very nice aunt.
As war breaks out Jane joins the nursing Corp where she is forced to see and do things many young girls would be unable to cope with.
As with all her books Rosie Clarke brings the era to life through her brilliant and strong female characters

I've loved Rosie Clarke's books since the first one I read and I can honestly say that she is brilliant at telling a good story (especially those set in either the first or second world war eras). I love her series of books, but, when on occasion, she writes a standalone novel, it really brings home how good she is at her job!
As always, this book had everything you could wish for in a Rosie Clarke novel - a feisty heroine, drama, romance and tears (not necessarily in that order!). Again, as ever, I am wishing (and possibly hoping) that this wasn't a standalone book as I'd love to know what happens to the characters next!

Oh this book had me hooked from the first page. It was heartbreaking, but also with glimmer of hope. I just loved the Main characters. Their strength and soul. I highly recommend this book

What a heartbreaking read! I was glued to it after the first couple of pages.
Jane Shaw is a young woman who has so much love to give and deserves to be loved in return. After caring for her young brother Charlie and helping around the house due to her mother being incapacitated after Charlie’s birth, Jane and her sister Melia find themselves at the mercy of an aunt who is unfamiliar to them. Jane decides she wants to do something for the war effort so signs up with nursing voluntary aid detachment where she makes friends easily with Rosie and Frances. They are not too sure about the working conditions. Jane becomes fire with one of the doctors, will this friendship deepen!
It’s such a lovely story.
