A basically spent a day swooning over this book and power reading it - so good. Iris has run away to New York from a toxic relationship, she lives a pretty closed off life until she meets Gio and his family. They take her in to their gelateria and she makes real connections and finds herself falling for the wholly unsuitable Gio.

The drama in this. Phew. I’m usually most interested in a romantic story line and mildly enjoy anything else going on but I could not stop turning the page to find out how Iris was going to get out of the messiest of situations. My heart broke for her with how complicated and hopeless it seemed at different points. I loved Gio - not happy that both the US and UK covers seems to have done him dirty. My favourite awww moment was when baby Iris had actually met 5 year old Gio, it just seemed like fate ❤️

I requested this booked I wanted a festive christmassy read, however. I didn’t feel this had that festive feeling. There wasn't much about winter in it until the end! I had never read anything by this author before so did not know what to expect.

I also struggled with the whole concept of the "lies" and why Iris would not have explained herself and numerous opportunities. I also didn't feel the lies were so bad she couldn't come clean. It just didn't make sense to me.

I also didn't really get the ex part. As someone who has been in a similar situation in real life it didn't seem particularly believable.

I did enjoy the book and although. I wasn't at the stage wjere I felt I couldnt put it down t I still looked forward to reading in an evening.

I love this book! It was classic Josie silver filled with Christmas magic. The characters were engaging and the plot was never slow. 2 thumbs up!

As a huge Josie Silver fan, I had very high hopes for her newest release, especially as it was yet another wintery / festive romance.

Unfortunately from the very beginning I really did not like the female main character Iris. It’s not a spoiler to say that her ‘meet-cute’ with the male love interest is all based around a pretty serious lie, and that put me off her immediately. There were several opportunities for her to come clean, which she did not take. I was praying for a miraculous explanation at the end, and it did kind of placate my hatred a little but sadly I still didn’t like her very much at all.

Gio on the other hand.. 🥵 give me an Italian-American family-oriented guy with daddy vibes any day 👏🏻👏🏻 I absolutely adored Gio’s character and found his interactions with everyone else a joy to read. I much preferred his back story and familial situation, and found his parts of the book much more enjoyable.

The book didn’t feel as wintery as I’d hoped.. It’s largely set in a gelateria, and ice cream doesn’t scream winter to me? Also the majority is actually set in autumn until the very end 😄 I liked parts of the story with trying to find the family’s perfect gelato recipe, but found some parts a bit far-fetched in terms of Iris’ connection to the family.

I did have a tiny cry at the end - there was a very emotional moment regarding grief of a parent and cancer!

Overall it was an enjoyable read, I just wish I liked Iris more as that would’ve pushed up the rating! Some people may like her more though or find her more relatable, but she wasn’t my cup of tea and I think Gio deserved better 😄

I loved this book, it gave me all the feels, I laughed and cried and everything inbetween. The characters are all brilliant and I loved getting to know Gio’s family. The chapters from the past were a great addition to the story too. 100% recommend this read.

It took me a little while to get into this book. I was a little bit bored at the beginning but I do appreciate that the scene needed to be set, and we needed to go back to Iris’ Mum’s past to get the full story. I think I would have liked more of an introduction to Iris as I felt it took me nearly half the book to get to know her. I did really like her though, and I loved how she learned to stand up for herself - she is incredibly brave. I absolutely loved the Belotti family - so wholesome and warm, I could picture them perfectly in my head. I particularly loved Sophia. I wasn’t massively keen on Felipe coming back towards the end and stirring the pot but I suppose it all worked out okay in the end.

Gio and Iris were 🔥🔥🔥 their chemistry was off the scales!! I loved how passionate and fiery Gio was about the people that he loved. I also loved Iris and Bella’s bond too. A big focus on family and the family moment at the end brought tears to my eyes!! Josie Silver definitely knows how to write a tear jerker!

"A Winter in New York" by Josie Silver gets 3.5 stars from me. It's a decent read, especially if you're already a fan of Silver's work, but it didn't quite hit the mark this time around. The setting is beautifully described, capturing the magic of New York in winter, but the characters didn't shine as brightly as I'd hoped. They felt a bit flat, lacking the depth and engagement I usually find in Silver's books. It's still a nice read for a cozy evening, but it might not leave a lasting impression.

This book is beautiful. The atmosphere and the characters are well described and thought out. However, for me, the miscommunication overshadowed the story.

This book tells the story of Iris, who moved to New York after her mother’s passing and leaving her abusive ex-boyfriend. Here, Iris meets Gio, who is in desperate need of help, as his family's gelato shop is struggling because Gio's uncle has amnesia and can't remember the stores secret recipe. Iris steps in believing she can help, only to discover a lot of secrets.

I loved the description, the found family, and the chemistry between Gio and Iris. However, for me, the miscommunication, the lies completely overshadowed the storyline. I can understand a few aspects of the lies, but I did feel frustrated at times.

I will say the writing was solid, and the descriptions were beautiful.

This is a perfect, feel-good, cosy up with the fire and Christmas tree lit behind you kind of book. Perfect Christmas read, simple and easy!

The E-Book could be improved and more user-friendly, such as links to the chapters, no significant gaps between words and a cover for the book would be better. It is very document-like instead of a book. A star has been deducted because of this.

This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

I loved everything about this story.

I found myself wondering what exactly happened to Iris’ mum Vivienne for her to have the missing knowledge. It was obviously important to her for some reason! Once the story starts to piece things together, Iris is getting closer to the Belotti family, the trust is building with Gio – and every day is a tension for the reader knowing that the truth will out …

Flipping back to Vivienne in 1985 does more than fill in the missing blanks. This adds so much to the story! One scene in particular back in New York is very poignant and very cleverly links two people together. We would never have known that happened without Vivienne’s narration.

I found it easy to identify with each and every character. Iris is slowly starting to build self-worth and trust in herself (although it’s clear from a couple of things she’s still feeling the effects of what happened). She’s a fabulous lead. Gio is shut off from emotions redirecting all his energy into the family gelateria and his daughter. They’re both so right for each other, well, if there were no secrets! The ‘will they won’t they’ is exquisite. Felipe’s motivation is totally understandable as is his brother’s collusion and even though they frustrated me, I forgave them. And everyone needs a Bobby in their lives!

There are a couple of scenes in the park that brought tears. The first time because it meant a barrier was breaking down, a healing taking place. The second, the emotion of letting go but also mixed in with that, an acknowledgement it was time to move on.

The lead up to the ending had me flipping those pages so fast – it is exciting! And the ending is just perfect.

Josie Silver writes the best romance stories. It’s as simple as that (although not for the author! I so appreciate the hard work and grit that goes into a finished story).

If you haven’t read any of this author’s stories before, you really are missing out!

Set in New York at Christmas time, Josie Silvers latest is the perfect book to cosy up with this winter!
Iris moves to New York to escape an abusive relationship and ends up meeting Gio who is trying to save his family business from going under after his uncle suffers a stroke.
Both broken hearted they help each other out more than they both realise but when they dig deeper and fall harder they realise their connection might go further than just them two!

This was a lovely cosy winter read, in comparison to other novels by Josie Silver it did not feel in the same vein but was enjoyable nevertheless. After a slow start to the novel 3/4 of the way I was hooked and didn't want it to end. Set in wintery New York, Iris walks in her late mother's footsteps and as she does she finds herself connected to her mother's story in ways she never would have dreamed possible. An encounter with the Belotti family brings love and light back into a life that was once filled with a darkness and fear.

I positively sped through this book, it was such an easy holiday read and I was invested enough to need to know more!

Josie Silver’s writing is definitely a style I jive with, I also really enjoyed One Day In December. Her characters feel realistic enough to invest in (*hello Daddy Gio*) and her settings are so clear to picture in your mind. I actually full on teared up at one point (rare for me with a book).

Overall, a solid holiday book, it made me want to wander around in New York and eat my weight in gelato.

Really charming story, gorgeous setting, very well written, flowed well, great characters that i could really connect too, and it was a lovely read.

Great book, have read some of hers before and really enjoyed them – this didn’t disappoint.

A Winter In New York by Josie Silver, a NetGalley review. Iris has a connection with New York, wanting to start to start a new life, leaving a bad relationship behind. However fate has ideas of its own and unexpected love is just round the corner. I loved this book and couldn’t put it down, it funny, naught and rude in places and in places it’s an emotional read, I felt myself selling up in places and it’s about grief and dreams past and present. Iris is a great character, someone unaware that’s she’s looking for love, to be loved and romanced like in the movies and she’s look for a family and people she can trust. Yet she is looking for her mum, who died and who Iris is still grieving for. I also love this book because it’s set in New York and if you’ve followed me for a while, you will know New York holds a special place in my heart and reading this makes me want to visit again. The author is very descriptive, bring the characters and New York alive. Gio who works at the Gelateria that Iris stumbles across is also grieving, scared of getting hurt and not wanting to hurt his daughter. Gio and his family are Italian and they are a a passionate family, even though it’s a book you can hear when they are altogether the noise of them all trying to talk at once. They care about family and it’s traditions, you as a reader can feel there passion and their love for one another. I wouldn’t say this is an Xmas read, a great book to read shy time of year and will certainly be reading more from this author. This book gave me the feels and a book hangover, I loved every page, so can’t recommend enough ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I am going to be honest, I wanted to dnf this most of the time, I needed to do a really big effort to read, but I couldn't do it anymore...
I was frustrated with secrets being kept from the ones she loved and the storyline could be predictable. You know the lies will be eventually found out and you know how the characters will react to it, which kind of made it "lose" the magic in the story. Normally I love the NYC rom-coms and finding new things about their past and all, but this was just not it... I really expected more because I have heard so many good things about the other books from this author and I am so sad it didn't meet my expectations.
Overall it was a sweet and cozy read.
