Thank you to NetGalley for this wonderful arc!
Iris moves to New York and her life begins again. What better way to have a fresh start than to fly from London to New York. Leaving her recent heartache behind she stumbles upon a familiar Gelateria, inside she meets Gio who also has his own baggage. Believe it or not, Iris also has the answer to his problem. Can Iris finally let go of her past and let herself fall in love?
I loved this book so so much!! My first Christmas read of the year and what perfect start to my winter reads. Josie has a way of making her characters come alive. I completely fell in love with Iris and felt like I needed to be her friend, even when I wanted to shake some sense into her. The way Josie developed Iris as a character was amazing and it was so amazing to see her thrive towards the end.
If you love novels about how a woman can overcome her grief and become stronger after her abusive relationship, whilst also falling in love and finding an amazing family that will hopefully become her own, then this is the book for you!

A lovely, heart warming Christmassy book! I loved the way this story was set all around following in her mums footsteps around New York. The flashbacks to the mums POV were also really good.
Such a great book, with interesting side characters that added to the story and the best ending I could have hoped for.

So. This book. Gave me a headache, really.
It took me a long time to start liking this book. I had a problem with a story starting with a huge lie because you know how it's going to end. And there were moments that I thought, can you please just move forward, story? And moments that were so emotionally overdone. And moments that looked so important and then were no more (this huge thing with Iris's mother being explained to the family somehow behind the scenes). And I hate the name Iris. And there are so many subplots. And lies and secrets.
And it really took me over half of the book to start to really enjoying it. But then there was no stop. Because it felt warm and I suddenly completely fell for Iris. And it's so much more than a winter love story, it touches upon grief, betrayal, hope, mental abuse, love, loss, family... When Gio eventually warmed and opened, his banter with Iris was brilliantly funny. Sure, there is tons of "right place, right moment", surface - level and predictable, but well, this makes the book this little bit more charming and sweet. It was heart - warming, if you're not looking for something deep, light and easy and sometimes that's all you want.
3.5 stars rounded to 4.

When Iris escapes an abusive relationship she flees to New York for a fresh start, and in the ways of all love stories meets a man that she should definitely not fall for.
A fabulous read, full of romantic tension. Loved it.

Josie Silver has done it again! I was completely immersed from start to finish! If you enjoy Emily Henry and Katherine Center then this is a must read for you!!
PSA - This is not really a holiday read, though can certainly be read during the holidays.

I’m definitely a sucker for a good romance with a great setting and this book ticks all the boxes culminating in a magical Christmas denouement.
Iris decides to go and live in New York after the death of her beloved mother and the end of an abusive relationship.
She decides on New York as her late mother had many happy memories of living there and had acquired a special gelato recipe which they have used over the years and which has been a great comfort food for Iris.
When she sees the Italian ice cream cafe from where the recipe has originated, Iris gets to meet the same family her mother once knew and discovers they have actually lost the recipe due to the owner’s incapacity after a stroke. How can she help them without revealing who she really is?
However as Iris is gradually enfolded into the family she realises that there are many things they do not know about her and when she starts to fall in love with Gio, things become very complicated.
This is a lovely story about two wonderful characters, both of whom deserve some happiness. It is a gentle read which quickly draws you in and keeps you entertained until the very last page. This would be a perfect Christmas read or gift as it is set in the Winter period leading up to the festive season and the New York setting makes it even more special.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my advance copy.

Finished reading A Winter in New York by Josie Silver and what a swoon-fest!!!!
It was full of love, friendship, a haunting past, finding yourself, cute NYC meet cutes, and a HUGE italian family with a secret gelato recipe!
I have been an avid watcher of 80s and 90s romcoms and reading this felt as wholesome as watching some of my absolute favorite movies such as When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail, While You Were Sleeping, etc.
I absolutely loved how the story converged and unveiled old family secrets.
A must read this Fall and Winter. I might just buy a hardcopy for this one!

Loved it! I have devoured all of Josie's previous books and this one was the same - easy to engage with characters, good paced story, ups and downs, a swoon worthy leading man, interesting backstory, great location and ice cream! What more could you want?! Highly recommended!

i really liked the concept of this book, but found the secret keeping very frustration and for me it was a way to make the book longer than it needed to be, the blurb was better than the story.

A 4 star book, I enjoyed the lovely Christmas theme with good characters and the setting, well. As I said 4 stars.
Thanks to Netgalley author and publisher for this ARC

This is the story of Iris in New York, following the footsteps of her mother and her charming love story.
This is an lovely book to curl up with in the sofa during the winter.

I was so close to giving this 5 stars! Such a lovely heart warming winter romance. I love the Belotti family so much and I wish I could spend a dinner at their table. Just a sprinkling of Christmas was perfect to keep this wintery and not too festive, balanced out with all the ice cream talk. I massively recommend this read!

This is such a lovely sweet book that has been skillfully written by a brilliant author. Iris lands in New York having fled London and her abusive ex and soon finds herself encountering Gio. But the lies soon add up and Iris ends up sabotaging her own happiness.
I found some of the lies (or omissions) frustrating as they were just so unnecessary, leaving me wanting to shake Iris at times. However I loved the storyline and the character that Iris showed herself to be. I love love LOVED the moments of reminiscence about her mother and thought many of the themes were dealt with sympathetically.

Josie Silver is back with another romance, this time set in one of the most iconic and romantic cities in the world, New York.
Iris, still grieving from the loss of her mum and trying to distance herself from a controlling ex-boyfriend, finds herself in New York City. A chef by trade, she finds herself flinging noodles at her new friend’s restaurant by night and exploring her new city by day. When a chance encounter at a gelato store brings back vivid memories of her mother, long held secrets will be revealed and a romance begins to bloom…
There is so much love in this story. The connection between Gio and Iris is palpable from the start, and only grows stronger when Iris forms connections with his family too. I think you can definitely fall for someone’s family as well as the person themselves, and if you’re lucky enough to be welcomed as one of their own, you feel special in a way hard to explain. You are not only accepted, but chosen.
In my head, Iris is a double for Zooey Deshanel, such is the vivid description given by Silver; I could truly picture her as fully formed and a complete character, one with depth and flaws and a true spark that makes them memorable. Gio I could see as Adam Garcia, brooding but welcoming, dashing but concealing a multitude of enotions.
The narrative follows Iris as she tries to help Gio and his family discover their lost family gelato recipe. We also occasionally revisit the past in the form of Iris’s mother, gaining a snapshot of how Iris came to be, and glimpse the Berlotti family of years before…
All side characters are fully-fleshed out and likeable, so much you wish they were real and that you could also become a part of this warm family.
A cosy and sumptuous seasonal romance, it will whisk you away to the infamous streets of New York and have you craving gelato in Autumn. Deliciously romantic, its the perfect book to escape into this October.

That usual story of half truths and misunderstandings sets things off here. But it’s lovely, mixing past history and present day beautifully. Romantic, funny and sad. I loved it, so beautifully written I felt I was there, in New York, hearing the carols, smelling the scents, tasting the coffee…and the gelato!
Thank you to NetGalley for providing this book for review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Set in New York in Winter it got me straight in the mood for Christmas. I enjoyed getting to know Iris and the Belottis and the little duel story line with Irises mum and Santo is lovely too. Not too cheesy or corny a Christmas read, I’d highly recommend. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this early copy

Josie Silver is definitely one of my favourite authors. Her books always hit me right in the feel good spot. Just like her previous books A Winter in New York is full of likeable characters and is set in the perfect setting of New York City. I got married in New York and stayed on Mulberry Street where the majority of the book is based. I could imagine walking down the streets and visiting some of the places mentioned. I would love to see this book made into a film - I’m sure I’ve said that on more than one occasion about Josie’s books but that is because they’re so good.
An easy and enjoyable read that is told mainly through Iris trying to navigate her new life in New York after leaving a controlling relationship. Fate brings her to a shop that her mum visited and into the family of the only man that her mum truly loved. Add in a missing gelato recipe, best friends and a handsome Italian New Yorker and you have everything you need for a lovely book. Perfect to read as the nights draw in and if like me you like to indulge in festive books this is the one to start with this year as there is a festive hint but not too much that it spoils the magic later in the year.

Josie Silver writes gorgeous stories and this one is no different
Iris is running away from an abusive boyfriend, and finds herself in New York. As a chef she has no problems finding work and so when we meet her she’s working in a noodle store, not too taxing but ideal for someone who needs time to figure out what’s next.
While out celebrating the feast of St Gennaro, Iris comes across a beautiful gelaterie which is run by Gio a man she had a slight contretemps with in the local bookshop. Iris realises that the gelateria where he works is the same shop that’s in an old photo of her late mothers. Curiosity compels her to revisit the shop the next day where she finds herself drawn to Gio and his family as they struggle to keep their business afloat, which is reliant on the secret family recipe that only Santo, Gio’s uncle knows. He is in a coma and so the family fear that the recipe is lost for good.
At this point Iris realises that she is the key to saving the Belotti family from going under, but can she break the promise she made to her mum?
A Winter in New York is a gorgeous feel good book. I think for anyone looking for a hallmark Christmas book this is it.
I would like to thank #NetGalley for my ARC of this book. For me it’s a 4⭐️ story.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of A Winter In New York by Josie Silver in return for my honest review.
Josie Silver does it again with this really heartwarming story, lovely easy to like characters a slow burning romance between Iris and Gio an ice cream making Italian and all set in New York what’s not to love. Read this in one sitting on a wet Sunday a perfect read for this time of year.

What a great story line! Yes, romance is involved, but who thought it could happen over an entwined story of a mother, daughter & a secret vanilla ice cream recipe!
Iris moves to New York after walking out of an abusive relationship. She's grieving the loss of her mother & finds a photograph of an ice cream parlour in her mother's belongings & this begins her journey to find out more about her mother's life.
With romance, family & friendship thrown in, it makes it a lovely book. Enjoy!
