Thanks to Netgalley and HQ for access to this arc in exchange for my honest review.
This is the first time I read from this author, it was an amazing read ! It was slow paced at times, but the twists at the end caught my breath ! It was really worth the ride and I'm very happy with how everything ended, well, maybe not the epilogue haha, but overall it was very interesting.
This is the first time I've read anything by this author and it won't be my last!
This book had me gripped from the start, I could not put it down. I just couldn't decide who was telling the truth. The more the story unravelled the more suspicious I became of everyone. I was not expecting that ending at all, absolutely amazing!
I loved the pace and writing style of this book.
Secrets and twists galore right from the very beginning. I had no idea where the story was going until all the ends got tied up. I loved the ending.
Many thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in return for an honest review
I know her but can I trust her?
Rose Carpenter is at the school gates and gets talking to Issac Reeves who mentions he is thinking about home schooling his daughter Daisy and is looking for a tutor, Rose herself a qualified teacher offers and they arrange for her to go to his home for a interview. This is so easy her friend Elise seeks out Rose to help get Daisy away from her controlling husband she wants her daughter back.
Heading to Orchard House she accepts the job as home teacher and nanny on a weeks trial and moves in. She owes Elise and sets out to get her daughter back.
This turns into one unputdownable read, and secrets are crawling out as you read that will blow your mind, shocking chapters that you don't see coming, I loved this twisty book from start to finish.
When Rose's old friend Elise suddenly arrives in her doorstep, having just escaped a controlling marriage, she offers her a place to stay. But Elise wants more than a safe refuge, she wants Rose to help her get her daughter back, so that truly start afresh with five-year-old Daisy safely in her arms. Every little girl needs her mother, after all. Ready to insert herself into Elise's old home, Rose gets a job as a teacher, home=schooling Daisy. But when Rose is asked to take the little girl and bring her to Elise, Rose gets cold feet. Elise's behaviour is becoming increasingly erratic. and Daisy's father is far from the monster described. Will Rose take Daisy and return her to her mother? Or is the real danger closer to home?
What a rollercoaster ride this book was. Who was telling me the truth? Rose is a great character, really likeable. Her friend Elise turns up on her doorstep asking for help. Elise was in a controlling and abusive marriage, and she needed help to get her daughter away from her father. The characters are flawed and unreliable., the twists kept coming. The pace kept changing between slow and fast. This is a well written physiological thriller. All the loose ends were tied up. I loved the way the book ended.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #HQ and the author #KarenClarke for my ARC of #MyBestFriendsSecret in exchange for an honest review.
Beware the old friend who turns up out of the blue asking for help, sometimes its genuine and sometimes it’s not….
An exciting read, full of well written characters and enticing storyline that made for an addictive enjoyable book
My Best Friend’s Secret is a gripping thriller with plenty of twists and turns to keep you on your toes. It follows the story of Rose, who feeling indebted to her old friend Elise, agrees to help her get her daughter back. After all a little girl should be with her mum, shouldn’t she? But as Elise’s behaviour becomes more erratic, Rose begins to have second thoughts. Is she doing the right thing? I found this book to be a fast paced read hard to put down. Thank you to NetGalley, HQ and the author for the chance to review.
Thank you NetGalley and HQ Digital for an early copy of My Best Friend’s Secret. This was a fast reading book, nothing gripping. All the characters were flawed but it made for a good read. The ending closed up the plot in every way for each family member.
This was a very enjoyable read for me . When Rose's old friend turns up at her door she has an incredible story to tell , she enlists Rose to try and get her daughter Daisy back from her controlling father . When Rose takes a job as a tutor to Daisy to get closer and to carry out Elise's plan she soon realises that things are not adding up , and the family far from being the monsters that Elise has painted them out to be . Should she trust her old friend who she has not seen for years or the family that have started to accept and befriend her ?
A good read and I would recommend

I chose this book because I have read and enjoyed this author before, and this one is now added to my "read and enjoyed" list.
The story was easy to get straight into from the start and it flowed along very smoothly, making this an easy book to follow. The plot unwound very slowly, which gave the reader plenty of time to mull over all the possibilities. The characters were all mysterious with hidden agendas, so it was easy to wonder about them all, but not come up with any real answers.
Once the plot is all laid out on the table, the reader is lead to believe it's just a case of wrapping it up! Wrong! This story is all about the finale......
Fantastic novel. Compelling characters and a plot that keeps you guessing all the way through. A well-crafted narrative that resonates long after you've finished.
A good story about old friends turning up out of the blue and asking for your help when they are down on their luck. A good read.
A brilliant read. A thrilling read full of twists and turns that keeps you gripped right to the end. When an old friend Elise turns up at her home and asks for her help in trying to get her daughter back from her ex husband Rose doesn't realise what she is about to uncover as she is struggling to try and discover what really happened in the family home, who she can trust and can she go through with her plan to reunite them.
To say I was gripped by this twisting and turning narrative and was hooked right until the very end is an understatement! So, what would you do when your best friend you not seen for years turns up and asks you for help to get their daughter back from her husband. Elise tells her friend Rose that she is no longer able to see her daughter because of her husband, Issac. Elise asks Rose for help and Rose ends up tutoring Daisy, Elise’s daughter. Will Rose bring Daisy back to Elise? If you love a thriller, get this book. I enjoyed every bit of it! #netgalley #mybestfriend'ssecret
Rose's old best friend Elise lands on her doorstep one day after escaping from her marriage. She needs somewhere to stay but also needs Rose to help her get her daughter Daisy back. Rose gets a job home schooling Daisy, but as time goes on she wonders who to trust.... Is someone out to get her? Can she really take Daisy away from her father? A brilliant thriller that keeps you turning the pages until the shocking ending. Loved it!
Wow, I really didn't see that ending coming. I knew there was much more to the story than Elise was telling Rose but I still got a massive shock when her true reason for wanting Daisy was revealed. This was a great story but one that was slightly marred by Rose's gullibility. She just allows Elise to walk back into her life after so many years and immediately agrees to go along with her, quite frankly, crackpot idea. It is easy to see how Elise was able to manipulate a lonely teenager into thinking she couldn't cope without her and within hours guilt trips Rose into going along with her every whim. All in all this was a very good read and I'll be looking out for this author in the future.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book
Okay.... Yeah this book had me guessing, clinging tightly to my blanket and making sure all my lights were on!! Definitely pick this up if you like mystery and a thriller
Although my last read from Clarke was not my favourite, this book was the antithesis of a reading experience. I was gripped by this twisting and turning narrative and was hooked right until the very end.
Rose is accosted by an old friend who convinces her to take part in a deceitful mission: return Daisy to her mother, Elise. Rose is disconcerted by Elise’s plan but sympathises with her distressed story, especially as it provokes some difficult, emotional memories. Yet, when Rose is immersed into Daisy’s family home, there are too many questions raised that makes Rose start to question all that Elise has told her. Furthermore, it would seem that someone in this family home is not happy with Rose’s presence and seem to want to do all that they can to send her away.
What I enjoyed most about this book was the level of deception taking place. You can never be sure who is telling the entire truth and I had my doubts about almost everyone in the story. From the father (Isaac), to Daisy’s grandmother and even her sister, nothing seems innocent and sinister, to the point that even I wholly believed in Elise’s tale. But, the signs that Rose starts to see cannot be ignored and this created a warren of misconceptions that Rose herself struggles to find the truth to.
This really is a twisting and turning narrative. I loved the pace of the story and was tense about whether Rose would be able to carry out her plans without being discovered. I did not know who she could trust because it is a case of so many people offering their version of events about Daisy’s mother. Consequently, I felt incredibly sorry for Daisy, who, blissfully unaware, is right at the centre of these events. There are so many layers to the narrative and I enjoyed seeing how external factors added to Rose’s behaviour, such as her conversations with her neighbour and what happened to Rose in the past. It definitely made the story more interesting as a result.
Clarke keeps readers guessing right until the very end: just when you think there are no more revelations to come, the writer throws in another unexpected one. In my opinion, it felt like this was written by a completely different writer compared to my previous read from Clarke and I am really glad I picked this one up. A detailed narrative that has so many unexpected developments, it is a great example of a psychological thriller and I would definitely recommend.
With thanks to HQ Digital and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Wow..this book had me from the first page.
Its a page turner .the twist . Omg
Never expected the ending
Must read
If you are looking for a fast-paced thriller, then My Best Friend’s Secret by Karen Clarke is for you! I binged this in one weekend and the writing had me turning the page wanting more.
What would you do if an old friend turned up at your doorstep asking for help? This is exactly what happened to Rose Carpentier, a thirty-year-old elementary school teacher who had just moved for a fresh start. That is until her old friend, Elise, shows up in trouble. She was in a controlling/abusive marriage, and she needs Rose help getting her daughter out of a dangerous situation. She needs Rose to pose as her daughter's tutor to help take her and give her back to Elise.
This had everything that you need in a thriller. Fast paced, unreliable characters, and twists you do not see coming. There were some twists I could predict, but others I was completely blindsided. It was a quick read and very enjoyable. This is my first Karen Clarke novel but definitely not my last. 4 out of 5 stars!
