A brilliant addition to Anna Brett's series.
This one follows a whale family, exploring what they get up to, why they migrate, what they do when in danger, what they eat, and what they do for fun.
I love these books by Anna Brett, they are so educational and encourage children to learn in such a fun way.
A beautifully illustrated story about a young whale. This book provides lots of facts about whales through a story telling style. Kids who love animals will love this book.
Little Whale is informative yet sweet. I loved how my four year old and I learned a lot about whales but also enjoyed the sweet illustrations and story. I liked that this simply but thoughtfully conveyed a lot of information about whales but in a way that was really engaging for kids. The end has facts about whales and further information which is a fun addition for kids who are interested in learning more. If I taught prek-3 I would definitely include this in an ocean / sea life unit and I think kids would love it. My four year old has already asked to read it several times!
This child's book was actually enjoyable to read as an adult. It was informative, colourful, and beautifully illustrated. It would be an enjoyable book to read and interact with a child, but also for a child to read (maybe aged around 7 years as there were some higher level vocabulary). The section at the back of the book was brilliant in getting the child to use and develop further skills with a quiz, puzzles and a creative activity. Overall this book ticked all the boxes of being an interesting read.
Thank you NetGalley for the review copy!
This is such a cute and interesting book for kids (and adults)!
We follow Calf the humpback whale through his day and learn a lot about his life in the ocean.
Loved the little activity section at the end.
thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC
I love Anna Brett's 'day in the life' of young animals series. I think they're great for family storytime books, and the facts about different animals are well-presented.
Added bonus is the a number of activities at the back of the book that are fun and educational.
Illustrations in this book, as in the rest of the series, are charming.
A great addition to the collection.
Recommend for readalongs, or advanced young readers interested in nature.
The Little Whale was a super cute and fun story! It turned the information and facts about a whale into a narrative, and the idea of the whale talking to the children reading the book was brilliant. The illustrations were stunning, and the story itself was very well written.
Little Whale by Anna Brett is an adorable children’s book that tells the story from the Little Whales perspective. The illustrations in the book are absolutely adorable and eye catching for children. There was also an educational aspect to this book that more children books need to include.
Thank you to the author and illustrator for allowing me to read and admire the illustrations in an early readers copy of this book.
What a fantastic read! This is so much more than just a picture book and will appeal to many different audiences. It is filled with interesting facts about humpback whales which are supplemented with gorgeous illustrations in a range of different blues. Each page contains short amounts of text so it could be read in one go (like I did) or spread out over several days. One of my friends children loves animals so I already know what I will be gifting him this year.
I will definitely be purchasing a copy for our school library.
The colors in this book are wonderful, and I felt like it had a really great educational feel while still being entertaining. Great for a science or elementary school class room! I've already texted a friend who has a little boy and LOVES whales to recommend this one! The factual section at the end was great-- engaging and fun but definitely lots of great information!
this book was an adorable and informative children's book about Humpback whales.
The writing style was fun and written through the eyes of a baby whale.
The illustrations were fun and lively with lots of bright colors.
the book itself didn't have any "Life lesson" but was more of a fun facts about humpbacks without being boring.
The end of the book had pages with more facts and even a fun activity for me and my kids to enjoy!
Thank you Quarto Publishing Group and Netgalley for the ARC
This was so cute. Whales are amazing creatures and this would be a great introduction and learning tool for children. The pictures in this book were gorgeous, I loved the illustration style and the colours used. I learned a lot about humpbacks that I didn't know. I need to go read more in this series!
Little Whale was surprisingly longer than expected. It starts out as a regular children's book, as we follow a family of whales journey through the ocean. Packed with much information, children and adults alike can learn a great deal about this species. After the little tale boasting gorgeous illustrations, the reader is given fact sheets, interactive games and suggestions for DIY activities.
Rich with pictures, drawings, creative ideas and a final quiz, this book has it all to further kids' knowledge about this famous sea creature.
A beautiful explosion of blues in this story that perfectly intertwined non fiction and fiction to keep kids engaged, entertained and educated!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
My little one loved how the words were incorporated into the pictures. The illustrations are gorgeous, colorful, and very detailed without being overwhelming for a children’s book. We loved learning all about whales, reading about all the facts, and playing the games at the end.
Whoa! I didn’t know that whales sleep!!
This was a good book, I enjoyed reading about our little whale friend. I loved the watercolor illustrations. The back of the book had more information, real life pictures, as well as craft activities!
I really enjoyed this one.
This is a great in-depth detailed picture book about humpback whales teaching the correct terminology and explaining the behavior as an individual (life of a whale calf) but also of the group, explaining migration, how they cooperate to feed on krill, and the dangers they face before predators.
Educational, with more facts at the end of the book and activities. It's very complete and the art is very pleasant.
Perfect for teachers and educators to explore with students.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
The illustrations are gorgeous. The text felt a little advanced for a picture book at times, but that might provide an opportunity for discussion as it's read. The activities and quiz at the back were a nice touch. I would recommend this for public libraries. It would be a great addition to a school library, as well.
Thank you NETGALLEY for the arc in exchange for a review of my opinions.
This storybook follows a day in the life of a whale.
This is an adorable book full of easily-digestible info about whales for little ones, with great artwork filling the pages. Fun activities at the end as well I liked that touch.
My nephews thought it was fun too.
Oh I loved this children’s book! The art was absolutely lovely and had a soft, watery feel that was perfect for the subject matter. It felt thoughtful and very beautiful.
I also learned a lot about humpback whales - I always prefer children’s books have something to gain for the adult reading them as well and this book definitely offered that. The first half of the book is very sweet, describing the life of humpback whales from the perspective of a young calf. This part is perfect for younger readers.
The second half of the book delves into more detail about whale watching, conservation, and introduces a known albino whale. It’s a slightly more challenging read which makes the book feel more educational and useful over time. There are also fun activities, games, crafts, and a quiz. I really appreciated this book and would absolutely recommend!
