all about choosing the family you want, not the one you are born into
thank you to netgalley and to the publisher for this review copy.
At 34 years old, Milas biological clock is ticking. Mila is a successful divorce lawyer in Washington, DC who lives with her best friends. When a routine visit with her OB/GYN ends in her doctor telling her it is time for her to consider freezing her eggs now in case she ever wants kids in the future, she decides she doesn't want a baby in the future... she wants one NOW. She is then introduced to "Tinder" style app where women swipe on men, but not for dating, for their seed.
This sapphic romance was a hilarious and such a quick funny read. Giving 4 stars because I feel as though there was a lot going on in some places that probably could've been written out and the story would've been just fine rather than having a bunch of little story lines that don't get the story exploration they deserve.
Thank you for the E-ARC in exchange for my completely honest review.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this book. The plot of this one was pretty outrageous, but I just kept going with it. It was everything I need in a queer romance, and worth a read if you love the genre like I do.
( Thanks to NetGalley and the editor for providing me an ARC to this book. )
i mean this one was okay, i think. not the worst book i've ever read and i definitely appreciated a lot of themes treated, but also definitely not my favorite either. the main problem i have is the instalove. i didn't believe their chemistry because, essentially, it wasn't really there for me. it might be a matter of personal taste, but i wanted something slower that would've made me care about it more. the characters are lovely, though, and in the end it was hard not to care for them. really nice depictions of friendship between women.
Baby Bank by Sarah Robinson
Thank you Netgalley for an arc for an unbiased review.
This book is what I would immediately classify as low stakes, and I went into it expecting that. This doesn't mean no stakes, but be aware, for some readers who prefer more discourse, angst or outright hostility, this book won't be for you.
This is the sort of book I would pick up when I need a break from heavier style of books I tend to read. High fantasy saturation is a thing.
Found family features heavily, which considering the plan on having a baby on Mila's own terms isn't surprising either. I found overall it was done well and realistic.
Despite all the light moments, the book also covered emotional moments. This allowed the book to have depth that otherwise would have been missing. Complicated also occasionally reared it's head, and having the juxposition throughout gave it a balance.
I vied between 4 and 5 stars. 5 for me has to make it feel exceptional as a book. This was close but I felt it didn't quite meet my own requirements for that.
It means this is an extremely strong 4/5 stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟
This was a solid 3.5/5 for me but I rounded up to a four because the writing was strong as were the characters. I also appreciated the author bringing to light different LGBTQIA topics that I personally haven’t read in fiction. Books like this, I think, help to further normalize LGBTQIA culture. Why I didn’t rate this higher than comes down to the “neat bow” ending. While I anticipated that ending in some form, I would have liked to have seen more of the development towards it. Still a fun read and I’d continue with the series when the next book(s) come out.
Baby Bank is a brilliantly written, hysterically original concept for a story that had me laughing at times, crying at others, but always feeling this unadulterated joy with each page that I turned.
Rife with the perfect amount of humour, found family and love, - in all of its beautiful forms - this novel knew just how and where to hit the mark.
I laughed, I cried, but most importantly I thoroughly enjoyed, dare I even say loved, Baby Bank.
The main relationship made me so happy, and I can only hope to have a family like theirs of my own one day - a little bit dysfunctional at times, but always filled with real, ever present love.
Thank you to NetGalley, Sarah Robinson and the publisher for allowing me the opportunity to read this book in advance for an honest review.
Baby Bank was a complete joy to read, and I can't wait until it's official publication in September so that I can recommend it to all of my friends, and maybe even buy myself a physical copy.
I'm giving this wonderful story a hearty 4/5 stars 🌟
If you enjoy situational comedy and a cast of characters just trying to navigate individual paths in a repressed society, you should find this quick read completely satisfying. You'll love the genuinely happy and laugh out loud moments. Think Stephanie Plum, with twice as many opportunities for rejection.
Baby bank had me laughing late into the night. Mila decided one day she wanted to have a baby, at 34 she was done waiting for the right person to come along. Her friends tell her of an app where you can “match” with donors who willingly help for free. Mila finds her perfect match, he is cute, smart, good family genes, and willing to donate for the satisfaction of giving others a family. Mila becomes close with Ari, and they are both trying to fight temptation to be just friends. Of course they can’t resist and end up hooking up, even though it could hurt Mila’s career. The end is cute, and everything you hope for out of a rom-com. There is a bonus chapter at the end, and it wasn’t until I was almost done that I understood what part of the story was taking place. I thought it was after the epilogue, but it’s actually 1 year before. Great, fast read, I can’t wait for the next book to come out!!
This was a slightly different than the genres I’m used to, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It’s a feel good book and I thought it was beautiful.
I was lucky enough to receive this book as a ARC. This was a book that was a little out of my normal realm of reading, but I’m so glad that I picked it! It was amazing to read something with such great queer representation, especially taking a deep dive into some of the every day struggles that people in the queer community encounter. I will definitely be on the hunt for some more books by
This is a funny story about a 34 year old woman looking to have a baby on her own. I wonder if an app will become a reality to find a donor! Such a crazy concept! I really enjoyed this read- I wanted to read it as I am possibly going through that kind of journey myself! Definitely recommend reading Baby Bank!
I went into reading this blind and LOVED it- so quirky and such a fun read. I love the author’s infusion of real-life into a story, and loved that I could absolutely see this happening in the real world.
I really wish I could give this book a better score, but while the concept was interesting, the execution failed for me. Especially the romance which was the main plot, felt extremely flat expecially in the beginning of the book. There was insta-attraction and the fact that they just kept accidentally bumping into each other every five minutes was absolutely insane. While I see the effort, I feel like the book tried to juggle too many plotlines and in the end failed to deliver on most of them. However, I did enjoy the pregnancy subplot and found there were a lot of realistic tidbits and real heart there.
So, in the end the book didn't work for me, but I hope it resonates with someone else!
The book was bit hard to get into in the beginning, but once I was hooked I couldn't put the book down. All of the characters were easy to like, although I did find it a bit off that both Ari and Mila call their mothers anything but their name. It was so often mentioned how great their relationships were with their mothers and yet no one was called mom. I liked the book but not loved it, I don't think we were able to fall in love with Ari and Mila's love story because it was so rushed. There was a huge jump from chapters 27 and 28 which in my opinion didn't flow well. All in all it's a 6.5/10 for me
This was a fun, quick read with a variety of interesting characters. While I loved the premise of the story, it felt a little predictable and rushed at times. I found myself rooting for everyone and absolutely loved how things ended for our main character. This wasn’t a favorite read for me but I look forward to reading more stories in this universe!
I feel like this is a book I have been looking for and it finally found me. I adored this book. The characters felt like friends so quickly and I couldn’t wait to pick the book back up and see them again. This book totally deserves to go viral, and I fully expect it to.
I haven’t read much LGBTQIA+ fiction yet, but thoroughly enjoy it when I do. The characters in this book felt real and this added so much to my enjoyment.
When this book ended I was totally ready to read about those characters all over again, and I will certainly keep my eye out for more books by Sarah Robinson. I’ll miss these characters, I have to meet them again some time.
This really is one of the best books I’ve read while!
This book has to be the best book I've read this year. I couldn't put it down once I started it. I don't want to give anything away but omg you will fall in love if you give it a try.

overall this book was fun! i loved the premise, the realistic pregnancy and baby content, the representation of lots of different identities and the found family. it was great to read a book with no conflict about homophobia that showed all the different kinds of families that exist. however, i generally found the writing style was too simple and quite on the nose, and i don't feel i got to know the characters properly, so the emotional scenes didn't give me the pay-off i hoped for.
This was so cute! I definitely have never read a book like this one but i'm so glad I did. The romance was adorable. I couldn't wait for those two to get together and have their happy ending. Mila's mom was kinda annoying but it wasn't too bad.
