I listened to My Daughter's Boyfriend by Daniel Hurst in a day!

The narrators, Harrie Dobby and Tamsin Kennard were brilliant and really bought Dawn, Ellie and Daryll and Harvey to life.

The book centres on Ellie, a rather unworldly 20-something still living at home working a dead-end job who meets a young good-looking Californian online. This is the most exciting thing to happen for Ellie and she leaps head first into the online relationship. In no time, Ellie and Daryll plan to meet in person in California. Dawn is Ellie’s mother and also a widow, she works all hours just to pay the bills. Whilst she is happy for Ellie, she’s also very aware of the dark side of social media and has concerns for Ellie’s fast developing relationship. Dawn agrees that Ellie can travel to Calfornia on condition that she travels out as well.

I was listening with a sense of foreboding - just waiting for something bad to happen! There were some twists and turns once Ellie and Dawn made it to California. I won’t say anymore to ensure I don’t reveal any spoilers! Suffice to say, I was on the edge of my seat listening to this and had to listen to it all in one go over the Bank Holiday weekend!

Huge thanks to NetGalley and the publishers Bookouture Audio for making the book available to me in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I want to say, My Daughter's Boyfriend, is the first book I have read by Daniel Hurst, and it may not be, but I have such a horrible memory I am going to say it is. I started this book at the beginning morning today, and have not been able to put it down. The narrator did a wonderful job and kept me on the edge of my seat. To me, this was a slow burn. It was just a delightful read, an easygoing pace, just enough of a thrill to keep your mind guessing and trying to figure out the very end. I felt there were some things I knew in advance, but then the ending blew me away! I am left saying, WHAT?!! There has to be some kind of follow-up in some way. I am not sure how, but would love to see this fierce mom and sick dad go head-to-head. This was a day of reading well spent.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Daniel Hurst is becoming one of my go to authors and this one did not disappoint. This one is full of twists and I gave it 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5.

At 24, Ellie is still living with her mom in England and meets Daryl online. She falls in love before she meets him in person. Daryl lives in Los Angeles and she goes to meet him in person, but mom insists on going with her. At first the visit with Daryl and his dad seems to be going well, but then things take a turn and things are not what they seem to be.  This one kept me intrigued until the end and reminded me that things are not always what they seem.
Thank you to Netgalley for this great book!

How well do you know someone you meet online?

Dawn's daughter, Ellie met a man online and knows that he is the one for her. When Ellie tells her mother that she has a new boyfriend, Dawn is happy for her but grows concerned when Ellie informs her that they have never met in person. Daryl, the man of Ellie's dreams, lives in Los Angeles and has invited Ellie to come meet him and his father. Dawn and Ellie arrive in Los Angeles, and everything appears great until a discovery is made in his basement that proves that Daryl has been lying from the very start....

I have enjoyed every book that I have read by Daniel Hurst and this one was no exception. I am always drawn into Hurst's books. His storylines are gripping, thought provoking, full of twists and shocking reveals. Traveling from one country to another to meet someone is a big step. Hurst captures the excitement of taking that leap. He also captures the feeling of something not feeling right.

I listened to the audiobook and thought it was very well done. I was drawn in from the very beginning. I wanted to know what was going to happen and how things were going to turn out. This was a fast read, and I didn't want to put this down.

Gripping, shocking, and well written!

I'm amazed at how fast Daniel Hurst writes and keeps us all so entertained.

This book, My Daughter's Boyfriend was a fantastic listen. I got through it in two days.

It comprises of mainly two characters, Dawn and her daughter who meets a guy online in America and journey's out to meet him. Absolutely besotted we slowly learn there may be a darker side to him and his father while the pair stay with them in California.

This was a great, easy read that kept the reader wanting to turn the pages. Daniel Hurst has such a natural storytelling talent, his books are quick to get into and devour.

Another win!

Thanks to Netgally and the publisher for an advanced audio copy.

My Daughter Boyfriend by Daniel Hurst @Bookoutureuk #generalfiction #MysteryandThriller

I like the narrators of this book they do a brilliant job. This is a very quick listen and I listen to it in one day. I like how Dawn is still caring for Ellie even through she 25.
This shows how bonds are wavering through life and how the death or a parent can affect a child. Through it can be slow paced at times as well

Dawn I don't blame her been nervous about the new situation.

Ellie then visit Darryl and his dad Henry in America. Daryl takes Ellie out for the day, and her mother is worried because she hasn't heard from her in a long time. They are leaving the city....Dawn has uncovered something they are both trying to keep hidden. They recommend to always trust your instincts! How can things go so horribly wrong in such a short period of time? A tangled web of lies might lead to unexpected results. This INTENSE finale has blown me away!

Another taut and twisty thriller from one of my favourite authors.

Ellie is 24 and still living at home with her mum when she happens to meet Daryl online and they fall head over heels in love. The only problem is that she lives in England and he lives in Los Angeles. But for Ellie the prospect of escaping her dead-end job and the miserable English weather is even more appealing.

When Daryl's father offers to buy Ellie's plane ticket so she can visit, mother Dawn is put in a difficult position and can't refuse. Although she does insist on going along too. Maybe she's being overprotective since her husband died but you never know who anyone you meet online could really be......do you?...

One of my go-to authors and this did not disappoint.

My Daughters Boyfriend
By: Daniel Hurst
5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hurst has quickly become a favorite of mine after I have read and loved several of his psychological thrillers.
🛩️
An incredibly addictive and heart pounding thriller. Ellie is in England and has been having an online relationship with Daryl who lives in Los Angeles. He invites her to his home and Ellie’s mom Dawn agrees as long as she can come too.
🛩️
Ellie and her mom are looking forward to their stay with Daryl and his dad, Harvey for a week. They are very inviting and things go smoothly at first.
🛩️
Daryl takes Ellie out for the day and her mom is really worried as she has had no contact with her. They are headed out of the city….Dawn has discovered something they are both hiding.
🛩️
They say you should always trust your instinct! How can things go so horrible wrong so fast! A tangled web of lies can lead to something you never expected. Blown away by this INTENSE ending!
