oh wow - completely unlike anything I've read before, I dont know where the idea came from but am so glad to have had the chance to read 'Cutting Teeth'!

its the story of a class of vampiric 4 year olds who one by one start becoming obsessed with the need to consume human blood. They are all at a prestigious church pre-school, where their new teacher, Miss Ollie, is an absolute dream. The mothers are concerned with being perfect parents to their wonderful offspring, but when the children become bloodthirsty, how are the parents going to handle it, there are no guidelines for what to do when your child wants to drink blood!
Then the most awful outcome befalls Miss Ollie, and the children are both witnesses, and potential suspects.

As someone who did not grow up with a religious background, the fixation around the church was very interesting; the new pastor turns a few heads with his 30 day challenge for adults to reconnect with their partners.
I loved the characters, the various worries and concerns that each mother had felt so valid and real, the guilt that you're missing something; the struggle to maintain the balance between being a wife, a mother and yourself came across so well.

I'd definitely recommend this for someone who wants an off the wall read about motherhood and how it can consume your entire being

What a strange book about children who start to bite and like the taste of blood. I wanted to stop reading but following three sets of parents/kids through this was intriguing. I'm glad that I stayed with it and there were quite a few twists which made it more exciting.

I started to enjoy this book, but it was soooo long with not much action. I really wanted to finish it, but struggled and had to give up.

Cutting teeth by Chandler Baker expertly blends the bizarre with the mundanity and pressures of life with small children.
Satirising the standards that ever present in society this book is unique and darkly comedic while also being a compelling murder mystery. Well paced with fully rounded and realistically flawed characters, I highly recommend giving this a try.
Thank you to Random House UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this engaging story

A very strange and original book satirising modern parenting and one which I’m not quite sure what to make of. A group of pre-school children at a kindergarten develop a condition that makes them crave human blood. Their adored teacher is then murdered in front of them, raising the question of whether they are witnesses, suspects or both. The transcripts of the police interviews with the children - unreliable witnesses with limited attention spans and language skills - are genuinely funny, as are the descriptions of the parents’ attempts to accommodate, normalise and justify their children’s thirst for blood, in the name of positive parenting. Sadly, the plot, the narrative and the depiction of the main characters didn’t engage with me and I lost interest well before the somewhat unsatisfying ending.

With thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an advance copy.

An unusual book and one I failed to engage with. The whole thing seemed quite convoluted right from the start and I struggled to work out what was happening to whom a few times.

I thank you for the opportunity for reading this book. However this book really wasn't for me. It was too long winded and I couldn't get into it at all.

Thank you to Netgalley and the author/publisher for this ARC.
I went into this book with no expectations and I think that was the right attitude! I enjoyed the story, it is different and definitely will be a love or hate I think! An intriguing story which has bits of humour too - I would recommend if you enjoy thrillers or crime/murder plots.

This is an intriguing book which grew on me from a slow start. The title reflected a problem at a pre-school with children who were biting their parents and others and swallowing the blood. That seemed a bit boring until it became apparent that it was also a murder story. One of the key workers at the school is murdered. One of the worries is that a child is responsible. A group of parents are met the story. Their reaction to the children’s problem and their relationships with each other are very well handled. As the story moves on, more details about the murdered teacher give the story momentum. The analysis of parental responsibilities is an important part of the story. After the beginning, the book becomes an interesting read. I recommend it.

Being a mother and having dealt with the social and political pressure of that some of the book hit quite close to home, and I could relate to so many of the interactions, so much so I had a visceral response to so many situations that arose, I could write a 4-page list, and I now regret not tabbing it. But alas... although I found the writing to be convoluted, quite 'stream of consciousness' and wordy, I did, however, overall enjoy it and as well as examining modern pressures of motherhood the surface level mysteries with in the book kept me interested and the plot chugging along.

An interesting book, but I wasn't too enamoured with the content of this book. Too weird fr me. sorry.

Unfortunately I couldn't connect with this book, not sure why but I didn't find it very thrilling? It kinda felt like an attempt at a "funny" thriller kinda like the movie scream - it's meant be a funny horror film.
There was some funny moments and at one point I did think it was going tonget really good but then it didn't.

Don't get me wrong the premise sounded amazing and it did get off to a a start but sadly it just fizzled out. I don't think it helped that it just seemed drawn out.

Anyways this one wasn't for me but I'm sure there are readers out there that will highly enjoy this book. We cant all like the same things I guess.

This was a bizarre story and I'm still not sure how I feel about it. It's original and one that will stay with you.

Well, this was bonkers. As a mother, and a crime lover this was WELL up my street. Can't help but see the similarities between literal blood sucking kids, and breastfeeding, too.

I enjoyed the story and the variety of parents represented, and a mystery wound it. It was good to see a better representation of mums (aside from the little vampiric bloodsucking children). I did find at times, it was a little long winded and did skip a few bits, but liked it and good to see something outside of the normal obvious crime thrillers. Thank you for letting me read!

Hmmmm bit of an odd one this! I teach this age group and thought the subject matter was interesting at the start.
However I really struggled to engage and finish the book.

Cutting Teeth follows three 'mum friends', Darby, Mary Beth and Rhea as their children attend the Little Academy pre-school together. There is a bizarre set of circumstances where the children seem to be craving blood and shortly after this begins, their young teacher is found dead in her classroom.
The children are the only witnesses and soon they, and their parents, become suspects in a murder enquiry.

I just can't quite put my finger on how I feel about this book. The storyline was ridiculous, although obviously written as satire. However, there was nothing to tell me beforehand to expect this; had there been, I wouldn't have read it as it's just not my kind of thing.

I wasn't overly keen on the writing style and didn't bond particularly well with any of the characters, in fact I really just wanted it to end. But that being said, I can appreciate the cleverness of how the book is written to mirror feelings of motherhood.

I'm sure there are lots who will love this book, I just feel like I am not the target reader.

My thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for sending me this ARC in return for an honest review.
