A wonderfully darkly funny and satirical. I loved this view on motherhood and thought this was such a great portrayal of the struggles mums go through but written in an incredibly intelligent way. The murder mystery was amazing and I didn’t see anything coming, all the twists were great and went out with a bang. I will definitely check out more by this author and I highly recommend this.

Behind every smile there is teeth, probably gritted as this is a book with plenty of bite, where you have to get past the veneer of lies to get to the tooth. Okay, got that out of my system! The focus of Chandler Baker’s latest novel is the seemingly perfect Little Academy preschool which the four-year-old children of friends Rhea, Darby and Mary Beth attend. Miss Erin Ollie is the highly qualified teacher who is perhaps not so great with the parents, just ask Rhea. However, when Miss Ollie is found dead
it’s not just the mothers who are under the scrutiny of the investigating detectives, the children are too and shockingly, some are even suspects. Why? Well, here we have some vampiric children and if we add in the struggles of motherhood and the various attempts to take back their lives
we have us a very entertaining, original premise.

This is certainly different, it’s strange, weird even and very acutely observed and has me intrigued from the start and keeps me reading on, sometimes with my mouth open in shock! It’s part satire, part domestic drama, part murder mystery, partly a study of different brands of motherhood and female friendship and if that’s not enough for you, let’s chuck in the vampire behaviour of four-year-olds. If that doesn’t pique your interest I don’t know what will. This aspect of the storytelling is especially riveting, darkly so and yes, sometimes even yukkily so.

I think it’s exceptionally good on motherhood and here we have very different brands which of itself brings judgements and there are some very good scenes of the competitive/combative nature that motherhood can bring in its wake. It looks at just how far you would be prepared to go for your child. Hold that thought! Scattered throughout is plenty of biting (Sorry) wit, some snappy dialogue and there are some very funny scenes often surrounding the children which on occasions makes you want to pinch your nose. It’s all told at a good pace with some unexpected twists, the final one being intake of breath worthy. Didn’t see that coming!

I thoroughly enjoy this creatively different novel from this talented author.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Random House UK, Vintage for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

Cutting teeth is every parent's nightmare time. Only this is a lot worse than normal.

This book shows the author understands the joys and woes of motherhood, the insecurity, lack of confidence that you would not expect from a sane person. The jealousy of friends and the need to try to be accepted into a small group of mums.

Really was not expecting the ending, but it drew to a final bang with the declaration of one of the main characters.

My heart went to Beth in this. Go getting lady who had the rug pulled out from her feet.

Could not put this book down. Late night for me 2.00 am.

That was different! This story has real bite to it. I found it totally compelling and was still awake at 03:00 in the morning because I just had to finish it. The author very cleverly brings out every emotion that a woman, or more importantly to this story, a mother, can feel. It’s pacey and from chapter to chapter, I was never quite sure of what was coming.
You never really know what people are capable of and even friends can hide their true selves. The end was surprising and yet not a surprise - you’ll understand what I mean when you read it - and you should read it.

Oh the joys of parenthood...

Never have I seen it brought into such sharp, darkly ironic focus as I have in Cutting Teeth, a satirical joy to read that is also authentic in its portrayal of motherhood and all the judgement that brings.

I mean let's face it, around the age of 4 kids do turn into tiny blood sucking vampires, even if not literally and every parent has been through some real world version of the intimate parenting issues the characters in Cutting Teeth face head on.

This is part murder mystery, part parenting drama, part friendship drama and it is clever, addictive, twisty and unexpected. I loved it.

Recommended for parents everywhere.

Totally, wonderfully bizarre. Liane Moriarty meets creepy vampiric children and twisty crime in her latest offering. If you loved her previous books, this should absolutely be top of your TBR. And if you’ve never read Chandler Baker, fix that immediately.

Ok, so this one was unexpected! I hadn't actually read the blurb that carefully, so I was attracted to the book thinking it was simply (!) a case of a teacher being found dead in a classroom, surrounded by young children, with the mystery being what had actually led to her death.

As it turned out, Chandler Baker has written a biting satire - pun intended - on the challenges, complexities and competitiveness of modern motherhood. And how it can feel like children, particularly those belonging to a certain social segment, come close to bleeding their parents dry...

And still mothers love their little monsters. So how far *will* a parent go to protect their child? Especially when something gruesome happens? You know, like the death of a pre-school teacher! This book offers some unexpected answers, interesting insights and plenty of witty one-liners along the way to the answers. Enjoy! I did.

Chandler Baker is back with yet another great read! The suburban motherhood experience is thrown into turmoil when the children undergo something akin to vampirism. This was no ordinary thriller, in the best way possible!
