A gripping domestic thriller that explores the dark underbelly of suburban life, with compelling characters and a suspenseful plot that keeps you guessing until the very end.

The New Mother by Nora Murphy and Narrated by Dylan Moore, Lee Osorio I found hard to get into and I could not get into the narrator, which took me longer to finish it. Sadly it was not for a me....but loved the cover of the book.
Big Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan UK Audio and Pan Macmillan for my ARC and audiobook.

Nora Murphy is a must read author in my opinion. I adored Nora’s debut and this is even better.
Nat is a successful woman, career made and a new mum. Murphy really portrays the struggles and emotions of Nat in this one. As a reader, you can’t help but feel for her. This makes you as a reader, desperately rooting for her throughout.
However, in true Murphy style this isn’t just an exploration of new motherhood. This is manipulation, toxic and sinister intentions.
Nat’s return to work isn’t how she planned, which results in a sabbatical. During this time she is able to get to know her neighbours a little better. However, she is still particularly vulnerable- not sleeping, keeping a tiny human alive and not feeling herself.
Paul is a character I’ve been unsure of throughout. His actions are untrustworthy and I’ve found him rather odd.
Murphy has transported me with this one. I have devoured this book in just hours. Definitely pulled in and unwilling to put this down.
Murphy is phenomenal. This is a must read from beginning to end. This is a book worthy of all the praise.
I can’t wait to see what’s coming next.

The New Mother is filled with all the angst and self doubt that comes with being a new parent. I liked how the author portrayed this time as it was realistic and didn’t shy away from the gritty details. As the story progressed, I found myself turning the pages quickly, keen to discover what was going to happen. A thoroughly enjoyable read suitable for those who enjoy dark, intense thrillers. 5 stars!

I was looking forward to reading The New Mother but unfortunately I did not enjoy it. I found it to be too slow and too dark for my taste. I did finish it as I don't like to give up on books but I really struggled with it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC.

Sadly I couldn’t get into the new mother. At first I was quite excited as the first thing we read about is an ongoing murder case, however after that I soon lost interest in this book.
There was a lot of moaning from Natalie about the struggles of being a new mother and I found her and Tyler’s relationship annoyed me and I didn’t like the way Natalie was towards Tyler she came across as ungrateful and dismissive towards Tyler’s offers to help. She also struck me as someone who believes the grass is always greener on the other side.
Even though I knew I was getting an early readers copy of this I also found the amount of typos and spelling mistakes made this an incredibly difficult read as at times I found I was trying to guess the missing or misspelt word which took a lot away from this read.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for this review.

Natalie is a new, struggling mother. Luckily she has Paul, her neighbour, on hand to help. He seems to have a calming effect on her son. What Natalie is unaware of is that Paul has sinister reasons for wanting to help. Will Natalie see what is going on?
Although this is a book that raises serious issues, such as post partum depression, I unfortunately found that this book wasn’t for me at this time, possibly because I have read a few similar books. I really struggled to get through the story, finding a lot of repetition and no thrills or suspense. This is a very slow burn novel, which is quite predictable and offered little surprises. This isn’t a badly written book but I went in expecting a thriller and would say it is more of a drama studying the struggles of new motherhood. Although this book wasn’t for me at this time, I can see this appealing to those who enjoy slow burn domestic novels which raise serious, emotional topics. 2.5 stars. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this copy in return for an honest review.

3.5 stars rounded up.
Nothing is simple about being a new mum alone in a new house, especially when your baby is collicky. Natalie Fanning loves her son unconditionally, but being a mother was not she wanted to be. Enter Paul, the neighbour.. Paul provides the lifeline she needs in what feels like the most desperate of times. When Paul is helping with Oliver, calmed by his reassuring steady presence, Nat feels like she can finally rest. But Paul wants something in return. It's no coincidence that he has befriended Nat - she is the perfect pawn for his own plan. Will Nat wake up in time to see it?
The pace is slow to to begin with. The first half of the book tells us of the struggles being a new mother can bring. The second half really picks up. The story covers postpartum depression, murder, and affairs. It tells how some women feel different after they have a baby. I wasn't sure what I was going to get when I started reading this book. It starts off with the struggles of being a new mother, then quickly turns to something else.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #PanMcmillan and the author #NoraMurphy for my ARC of #TheNewMother in exchange for an honest review.

After reading a few mixed reviews of this book, I have decided it was not for me. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review
I had expected a thriller but found this one slow and too dark for me, I think it's the subject matter. I dnf at 8 percent
I will not post a review anywhere else

I was very intrigued to read this book by the author Nora Murphy as I had seen very mixed reviews on Goodreads and I wanted to find out for myself. The book was a good read but was very slow, at one point I had to go back and reread the synopsis as I thought it was meant to be a thriller but felt like it was more about a new mother with postpartum psychosis. Personally I wouldn’t have had Natalie as the main character and would have instead had Paul the neighbour as the main character or maybe I would have liked to see Paul brought in a lot earlier and more in the beginning of the story. I did really like where the author was going with the storyline towards the end but the beginning had spoilt it for me.
This book hasn’t put me off reading Nora’s other books and I look forward to reading more books published by her.

This is the first Nora Roberts book I have read- I really enjoyed it and will definitely look out for more of her books.
Natalie Fanning has just given birth to baby Oliver and she has recently moved, with her husband Tyler, into a new neighbourhood where she doesn’t know anyone. Natalie is finding motherhood difficult. She had taken 8 weeks maternity leave from her job as a lawyer.
When she goes back to work she realises that it’s not as easy as she thought it would be to leave Oliver and to take breaks around her needing to express milk.
Natalie’s husband Tyler is also a lawyer and has a busy job. She feels as if she can’t do everything and is getting herself into a state so she takes a sabbatical from work to focus on Oliver. She feels alone and vulnerable as she doesn’t get any sleep. She feels like nobody understands her either.
She bumps into her neighbour Paul who is a stay at home dad and they being to bond. She feels as if Paul really gets her and that he is a true ally. Paul has an ulterior motive it seems. With his past record of an affair with the lady who lived in the house before Natalie and with him being asked to resign from his job as a college lecturer due to allegations from a student - Paul seems to be nothing like the kind, friendly guy that Natalie thinks he is…..

This psychological thriller was amazing with plenty of twists and turns throughout, The suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat, and with an exciting ending. The characters were great, the story was immensely enjoyable and the style of writing was perfect. I have read other books by this author, and I haven’t been disappointed. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading this genre.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.

Natalie is struggling to cope with her new born baby,
She feels alone and depressed.
Her neighbour Paul offers to help her but can he be trusted?
I found this story slow, I didn’t like Natalie’s character but I did feel empathy for her.
Thank you to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you for my copy of this book to read and review.
I really enjoyed The Favour so I was looking forward to reading this one.
I loved the concept of this book but I can’t say I was blown away by it unfortunately. It didn’t grip me like her previous one which is a real shame. I felt it was quite slow and the characters weren’t particularly likeable. It just lacked the suspense I would look for in a book.

Unfortunately I just could not get into this book and DNF. Sorry and thank you for the opportunity to read it.

I struggled with this book and eventually gave up on it. Sorry , this one's not for me
Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC in return for an honest review

I listened to this as an audiobook and I just couldn't get into it. I didn't like the characters and I felt the story dragged. Sorry just not for me

I absolutely loved the author's previous novel The Favour so I was looking forward to reading The New Mother.
Natalie is a new mother and finding being at home with her son challenging when she is befriended by a neighbour Paul who offers her the friendship and support she needs at a difficult time.
I completely respect the author for writing a novel about post partum depression and the challenges of being a new mother partly based on her own experience of a new baby. She gives a real insight into the sleeplessness, exhaustion, isolation and loneliness faced by many women. However for me there was too much detail on the experience of being a new mother, it became repetitive and the novel became too focused on this. This came at the expense of a gripping plot and I felt it lacked any sense of tension or suspense.
The author is a talented writer and it seems that this was a novel she felt driven to write, but unfortunately it did not live up to the promise of The Favour. However I will look out for the author's next novel.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.

Meh..... I'm on the fence about this one. I did really enjoy some parts of it and I get the plot centres round d motherhood and the plight of this new mother but it kind of felt like it was a bit too focused on that aspect and that let down the writing and the thriller aspect in my opinion. Most likely as someone who's not a mother, I just didn't relate at all so found it all a bit repetitive and slow I parts. I e no doubt t that for all the readers out there who can relate then it'll be a much more immersive read

Absolutely brilliant. Well written , haunting and claustrophobic. Full of twists , dark and deep , I really enjoyed the book.
