Winnie-the-Pooh is a childhood favourite character of mine, and I am sure of many of us. He continues to be the Bear that we all know and love, filling childhood story times with his wit and wisdom. Not forgetting of course all of his friends too. The original set of stories is made up of Winnie-the-Pooh; When We Were Very Young; The House at Pooh Corner; Now We Are Six. Now we are introduced to a new tale. Winnie-the-Pooh and Me is written by Jeanne Willis, illustrated by Mark Burgess and published by Macmillan. It is a story taken from the poem ‘Us Two’ which is found in Now We Are Six and it is an inspiring story celebrating friendship. Both author and illustrator have kept to the spirit of the original and bring us a book that reads, looks and feels just like the originals. It is an absolute joy to read and share.

Winnie-the-Pooh and Christopher Robin are setting out on an adventure, but they soon realise that someone has come along to join them. Pooh knows it is always the two of them, but still he wonders and they do a sum, 1x2 =. Maybe, ponders Pooh someone has come along as they have nothing else to do? It can’t be Kanga and Roo who are sailing their boat to Timbuktu, Rabbit says it is not he. Owl wonders who would follow Pooh and Pooh wonders could it be those Heffalumps again? As the day goes on and Pooh continues to wonder it is the wisdom of Eeyore that tells us just who is following and explains just what true friendship is.

A lovely picture book but I don't feel it quite captures the magc of the original stories - as a fan of those I am not sure anything could measure up though!

The story is a kind of continuation of the 'Us Two' poem by A.A. Milne. While it rhymes, it doesn't follow the same pattern as the original.

It i a sweet rhyming story with lovely illustrations and I am sure many will love it, I am just being picky as I love the originals so much!

Winnie the Pooh and Me written by Jeanne Willis. A rhyming gentle story about Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin with little appearances from their friends. I read this to my daughter and her friend who are 6 years old, by there reactions I would say it was just ok! I read this book to them and it wasn’t anything amazing and not something I would go out and but. Although it all rhymed, I found it hard to read, stumbling over the words and it was really hard to really know what was going on and what the point was. For me it felt a bit pointless and boring . Mark Burgess was the illustrator and the illustrations were beautiful and felt classically Winnie the Pooh. The girls said they would give it a 5 and 4 stars but didn’t look keen on reading it again or telling their friends about it! I would give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️ giving it one more star than I would have for the illustrations. I won’t be recommending it and slightly disappointed.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Winnie the Pooh and Me is an adorable picture book about Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh told in rhyming format. This story incorporates so many things - maths (counting), friendship, imagination, and more and was a delight to read. I grew up a fan of Pooh and even though this isn't an original, I really enjoyed it and felt nostalgic reading it. I myself used to watch the clouds and make shapes/pictures out of them with my imagination and loved this in the book. Children will be delighted reading this.

I can't say I've read many winnie the pooh stories so I don't know whether this new story matches the originals in term of writing style or storytelling, but I did find this to be a lovely read.
I found the special bond between Christopher Robin and Pooh bear to be such a nice one.
The illustrations are really lovely to look at as well so I think lots of readers are really going to love this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and publishers for this ebook

My son is a big fan of Winnie the Pooh so he loved this book. The rhyming was pleasant enough to read and the feature of all the characters was great.
You can't go wrong with a Winnie the Pooh story and even though it's not an original it's still in line with the classics.
The illustrations as always are beautifully depicted.

Hmmm… A continuation, of sorts, of "Us Two", the original Milne poem, which we also get. Christopher and Pooh think there are actually more than the two of them now, and so go in search of what the others might be, and the end result is a bit of a muddle. It gets to look at the other major characters, but in rather needless and brief ways, if truth be told. The style of the rhyme is the same as the original, but what is not kept up is the inhale/exhale rhyme scheme where everything rhymed with "me" or "you/Pooh" and nothing else. It's perfectly pleasant, but I doubt without the heritage edition styling of this hardback – and the fact new material in this well-loved world is always a surprise – it would get much more than a second glance.

Lovely continuation from Willis.

Taking the language, pattern and meaning from Milne's earlier 'When We Are Six' poem, Willis crafts a nostalgic and sweet new conversation poem between Christopher Robin and Pooh, as they go about their day in the 100 Aker Wood (sic), sounding both nonsensical and philosophical in equal measure, chatting about being one or two, and really talking about their friendship and love for each other.

Burgess brings us illustrations very close to Shepherd's, recognisable if you've got the original-illustrated versions, not at all Disney-like, and the Wood seems very familiar, their friends are all present, even if in cloud form.

And even if little ones don't follow Pooh closely (for let's face it - does he even follow his own trails of thought?), it's clear it's all about he and his boy adoring each other and never wanting to be apart. Every small child with a favourite toy will understand that.

Very enjoyable to read aloud. For ages 3 and above.

With thanks to Netgalley for providing a sample reading copy.
