My Word Against His by Lauren North and narrated by Eloise Mignon was so good I could not stop listening to it. I was hooked from the beginning till the very end, especially as it had lots of twists and turns throughout that and It was a audiobook I did not want to finish, which made it one of my favourite audiobooks of 2023.

I highly recommend My Word against his and a 5 star audiobook/book.

Big Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and Bolinda Audio for my Arc.

My word against his is a psychological thriller full of plot twists. Celia, is held at knife point by a man and forced to drive to Leeds. While this is happening we learn about Celiac’s son and marriage as the narrative moves to different times.
I’m sure fans of this genre will enjoy the book but I found it a little confusing and far fetched.

Gosh this thriller is a ride. Very 'twisty'. By halfway through I had no idea who to trust or what was really going on. I feel like saying too much about the plot gives it away so I will just recommend you listen yourself. I listened to the book rather than read it and really enjoyed the narration (and I'm pretty fussy!).

I received an audio version of this book from Netgalley and have to say it was a great book to listen to. My teenage daughter and I couldn't wait to have an excuse to listen to the story unravel.

I hate book reviews which reveal spoilers so won't reveal too much of the story, but essentially, the plot revolves around Celia, her son, her husband, Lucy a girl who Celia befriended some 13 years ago and suddenly appears out of the blue and then dies, and Sam, who kidnaps Celia at knifepoint and makes her drive to Leeds. Who killed Lucy? Celia says its Sam. Sam says it wasn't him. It's her word against his - who will the police believe?

Some very unreliable narrators and lots of plot twists. A cracking thriller.

The story was good, but I wasn’t really shocked or hooked. It wasn’t what I expected but also could live without reading this one.

This is a great thriller, lots of twists and turns but not overly complicated and or ridiculous. This one had lots of twists and turns and even though we think we know quite early on what is going on not all is as it seems.

This wasn’t quite what I expected but I did enjoy it nevertheless. Look forward to more by this author.

This will keep you hooked. It is a psychological thriller and I usually am able to guess who is the culprit in most books but this one surprised me. Not a bad listen at all.

I love Audiobooks by Bolinda. They never disappoint.

When teacher Celia gets a call from a former pupil Lucy looking for help she finds herself carjacked and at the mercy of her kidnapper.

This is how My Word Against His starts and you believe you have an idea of how this story will pan out but then you are hit with a twist midway though which changes everything.

It's very hard to review this book without spoilers but what I will say is that this is a book that will keep you guessing right up until the end.

Audio version was excellent, really enjoyed the narrator who did a great job of taking on all the various roles.

This audiobook was my first introduction to Lauren North and I have already added her to my "favourite authors" list..
I thoroughly enjoy this pschological thriller and it really had so many twists that you didn't know what was going to happen next. An excellent ending to conclude a nail biting story.
The narrator Eloise Mignon was very easy to listen to and read the story well.

Thank you for the opportuinity to listen to the audiobook from NetGalley and @Bolindaaudio and Lauren North in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this one, its an interesting premise within the story about who is likely to be believed. The hardworking single mother who gives to society or the young lad with a long list of convictions. The former is able to articulate and show calm while the latter is angry and volatile. I did guess the ending but that didn't detract from the story.

An overbearing mother believes in structure wears certain clothes on a certain day and brings up her son in the same way Did she kill her husband, Lucie the babysitter thinks so. Years later their lives converge to a horrorfying climax. Good characters but who do you trust. Plenty of twists and turns. Eloise Mignon narration is very good. Overall an excellent thriller.
I received this audiobook from Bolinda audio and Netgalley for a review.

The premise of this book attracted me, however, it didn’t deliver the suspense it promised on the book sleave.

There is a car jacking.
A desperate guy in need of getting home.
A troubled girl trying to do the best for herself.
An obsessed parent.
A damaged son.
Locks on cupboards and bedroom doors.
A missing Dad.

The story is told in 3 parts, in present day and 13 years ago and told through different voices. It at some stages is just damn confusing.

There was a lot of detail and repetition which just were not needed. As for the narrator’s attempt at accents, the less said the better. (I listened to the audiobook).

I give this 3/5.

This audiobook fantastically encompassed the mystery & tension displayed throughout the novel.

The twists and turns were fast paced & made me realise I could trust absolutely no one! I found myself constantly questioning every single person’s motives and stories.

I did, however, find the multi-media usage quite confusing at times, but that may just be me! If you’re a fan of that kind of thing, it’ll be RIGHT up your street.

Thank you to Netgalley and to Bolinda Audio for an advanced Audio copy in return for an honest review.

This was fantastic! The premise involved three characters Celia, her son Henry and Lucie. Their lives were interwoven and because there were only three characters it never became confusing. The twists and turns were unpredictable even until the end. I couldn't stop listening to it. The narrators voice was clear and concise and the book had chapters as well as parts 1,2 and 3. These were separated with alittle music. I actually like that in an audiobook personally.
This is my first Lauren North Fiction and it won't be my last, well written, not hard to follow an exceptional psychological thriller.

My husband and I listened to the audio version of this book on a long road trip. It is told from different points of view, dealing with different time frames. You are not always aware as to who is 'speaking', for example with the media messages; who are they from? This makes the whole story very cleverly mysterious. You really are kept guessing. As it got nearer the conclusion, I felt that the author rushed to finish and I didn't feel that the role that Celia's son played in the plot quite fitted with his character portrayed throughout. Otherwise a good thriller which would translate well into a film/TV drama.

A story about a mother and her love for her son, a story told by unreliable narrators... with a superb ending!
Thanks to NetGalley, the editor and the author for the opportunity to access this ARC.

Book review of My Word Against His by Lauren North. I have really mixed feelings about this book. At points I felt I knew exactly what direction it was taking but at others I was confused by what felt to be unnecessary detail. Early on it’s clear the narrator isn’t completely reliable then half way through the book it appeared clear cut. This left me wondering how the other half of the pages would be filled now the detail had all been revealed. I stuck with it and although I think the second half was way too drawn out, the twists and turns were worth it. To reiterate, there was lot of unnecessary detail some of which wasn’t resolved by the end leaving me a little confused as to its relevance, but the characters were well thought out and the story if a little soggy in the middle had a decent twisted ending so I’m giving it a 3⭐️ review.

A slow burn mystery with a few good twists but, ultimately, an ending I predicted. Considering how short this was, there was a lot of dialogue that could have been cut out. The two main female characters POV's were so similar, as they each recounted their own sides of the story. It became very repetitious. The main male character wasn't in it enough and didn't have a satisfying conclusion. Overall, nice background music but forgettable.
