I struggled to get into this book and didn’t find the characters interesting or relatable. I also didn’t like the writing style, peppered with clichés and contrived dialogue. This book wasn’t for me.

I had the audiobook version read by Eloise Mignon who does an excellent job both with distinct voices for the main characters and enhancing the listening experience adding the right amount of emphasis, tension and empathy throughout.

Celia helped and befriended Lucy as a teenager when she was a careers advisor at Lucy’s school. Thirteen years later Lucy contacts her again

The story is told in the past and present by Lucy and Celia. I was intrigued to see what direction the book was going to take. There’s lots of red flags indicating all isn’t as it seems.

My heart went out to young Lucy a neglected youngster desperately wanting to fit in and feel cared about.

The pace is good, there are plenty of revelations throughout, I would say the author leads the reader along a meandering road rather than one with abrupt twists and turns. There’s an element of unreliability so you are questioning what you think you know. I felt that it was well done, and very entertaining. There’s the odd surprise along the way too, but nothing major the clues are there to follow.
I really feel that the narrator enhanced the experience for me too.
It’s a book I loved and would highly recommend.

Thank you for this advanced audiobook. It was a little confusing for me to listen to with all the jumping back and forth between time periods. But there was some good suspense and connections I did not see coming. I had to listen to the ending again to make sure I heard correctly! Wonderful end to the book.

This book is full of tension and intrigue from start to finish with so may twists and turns along the way. Just when I thought I had it sussed there was another curve ball! It was a real page turner that I didn't want to put down.

The story was told from multiple perspectives and across different timelines and I did find it a little confusing at the start until I got more acquainted with the characters and then the rollercoaster of a ride was just thrilling!

The audiobook was skilfully narrated by Eloise Mignon adding to the enjoyment of the read. I will be recommending this book to others once it is published and am grateful to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced listener copy of this audiobook.

My word against his By Lauren North.

I read the arc and as soon as this became available on audio I had to listen. Honestly, it is that good!!
The epitome of a psychological thriller, packed to the brim full of plot twists. I’ve already recommend this book to friends and family and just about anyone who’ll listen to me ramble on.

A well deserved 5 stars.

I had the opportunity to listen to an audio book that offered a unique reading experience, and I'm grateful to the publishers for providing it. While the book aimed to provide a fresh perspective, it fell short in certain areas. I struggled to connect with the characters and found the timeline of the story unclear. However, as the plot progressed, things started to come together, albeit with a resolution that didn't fully satisfy.

Although it had its shortcomings, such as the lack of relatable characters and an unclear timeline, the book did offer a fresh perspective that some readers might find intriguing. It explored unique ideas and perspectives, which I appreciated. However, if you are looking for a book with well-developed characters and an engrossing plot, you may want to explore other options.

I want to express my gratitude to the publishers for the opportunity to engage with this book. Despite its flaws, it brought something new to the table, and its originality may appeal to readers seeking a departure from conventional storytelling. I extend my thanks to Bolinda Audio for providing me with an advanced listener's copy and the chance to experience their diverse literary works.

The blurb really drew me in and I was looking forward to getting stuck in but unfortunately it didn’t grip me or really hold my interest. I was a little bored and found it confusing at times when the storyline was jumping from past to present day. It is a fast paced read but having said that I didn’t feel it was eventful more going through the motions and I was bored. The characters were ok but I felt I couldn’t really get a read on them and couldn’t take to Celia at all and found her irritating. It picked up for the last quarter of the read but by then I just wanted to finish it. Sorry to say this was just meh for me… The narration was engaging and easy to listen to.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read #MyWordAgainstHis

THE TRUTH versus LIES.

His word against hers.

Which unreliable narrator is telling the truth?

This "Who Dunnit and Why?" twisty and suspense-filled thriller/domestic drama begins with a carjacking and a knife.

It's a book about obsessions, a mother's love for her son, and social stigma.

Unfolding from multiple perspectives in three different parts, the book was borderline confusing in the beginning.

Yet, as the book progressed, everything came together and the plot sizzled and soared.

Lauren North is one of my favorite go-to authors who never disappoints.

Her plots are brilliantly and intricately woven with strong and compelling characterizations.

I listened to the audiobook, read by Eloise Mignon, who did an outstanding job with the narration.

Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 Stars.

Oh my word, what a twisted read this was!! This is one of those reads where you need to go in blind. I was still thinking about it all long after listening to it.

She thought she was protecting her son from turning into a monster like his father. I just love these dark storylines where secrets unfold bit by bit and nothing is as it seems.

The narrator was just perfect. She definitely brought the story to life and added to the tension. Another author and narrator I need to add to my ever growing list of favourites.

Great narration of this gripping book! This was a delicious page turner right from the start. Everytime I had to put it down, it was all I could think about. I did end up finishing way past my bedtime, just so I would be able to sleep. If you love a quick, immersive thriller, than this is definitely for you!

It’s my word against his. And there’s no line I won’t cross to protect my family.

My Word Against His is a fast-paced, twisty thriller by Lauren North. It definitely kept me guessing right up until the end. Eloise Mignon did a great job with the narration as well.

My Word against His gripped me right from the very beginning. It’s an unputdownable psychological thriller that I read in one sitting so eager was I to find out how the story was going to conclude. This book is chock full of characters that you really won’t know who to trust. My opinion of each character was changing every few minutes. A tense and fast paced read which I highly recommend.
