Moose Is On The Loose: The Great Escape is a very cute and simple story about a friendly and loveable dog. Dodie Leigh’s story is fun and easy-to-follow while Janaka’s illustrations are adorable.

Moose is a very big and adventurous dog who lives with his family and sister dog Penny. He is a sweetheart who loves everyone! He also loves running and playing and dreams of escaping so that he can explore the neighborhood with all the new and exciting things to see and smell. One day, someone leaves the front door open and Moose sets off on a wonderful adventure!

This is a lovely and fun little adventure! Moose’s journey is exciting and super easy-to-follow. There is a fair bit of writing and the book is a bit on the longer side. However, the story is straightforward and filled with approachable words. Kids will love exploring the neighborhood with Moose! He finds a new human friend to play with him, meets some new dogs, tries to befriend a squirrel, runs away from Daddy and the girls, enjoys a nice cool swimming pool, dances with some beautiful butterflies, and tries to help himself to someone’s picnic basket! However, all great adventures must come to an end. Moose decides to head back to his loving home where he is greeted warmly by his human family. The book ends nicely with Moose falling asleep with dreams of another adventure!

Loveable explorer Moose will definitely appeal to kids and adults alike because he is such a friendly and adventurous dog! I love that he is just so sweet and makes friends wherever he goes. His innocently infectious happiness and eager desire to explore the world is also really heartwarming. Sweet Moose embodies all these great and timeless values that are applicable to all ages. But, his boundless energy will definitely be relatable to little ones!

Janaka’s cute and softly coloured full-page illustrations fit the story nicely. Big and fluffy Moose is so adorable! I love his happy and expressive face so much! I particularly love the depictions of the other dogs and the beautiful butterflies. His adventure through the neighborhood is also wonderfully and realistically rendered.

This is a happy, joyful story about a dog that leaves the house, goes for an unrestrained run. and has a fun time feeling free of usual restraints, while its family chases it, and eventually catches it.

The book is a treat for children and caretakers

Moose Is On The Loose: The Great Escape is a cute picture book that children will love, especially if their family has a dog. Moose is a very large dog who loves to play with his dog sister. However, he dreams of running through the neighborhood to see and smell all the exciting things outside his yard. One day the door is left open, and Moose escapes! The book relates his adventures as he explores the vicinity. Dodie Leigh appears to have had a plenitude of experiences with dogs. Her descriptions of Moose's behavior and actions are spot on. I have seen my dogs do many of the same things. Janaka's illustrations are colorful and realistic. An added surprise is a photograph of the actual dog named Moose on the back cover! Children will love this story. Thank you to NetGalley and Dodie Leigh for the ARC of this book.

I decided to read this book with my seven year old son rather than just guess at whether or not he would really like the book. I’m glad I did because he is dead set on buying it when it comes out because he likes it so much. Moose is on the Loose is a very cute book about a dog that escapes from the house one day and takes off down the street. The book is about his adventures while he runs from his owner who is trying to find Moose to bring him back home. Much hilarity ensues on Moose’s adventures. Overall a pretty cute book though a bit long winded for most picture book readers but the older ones who still love their picture books will definitely enjoy it.

I would like to thank the author, publisher, and Netgalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Moose is a very big dog. Sometimes he doesn't realize just how big he is. He loves running and playing but he dreams of being outside, as in outside the fence. One day someone left the door open and Moose was loose! He ran through the neighborhood. He found a new friend that would pet and scratch behind his ears, He found a new friend that would run and jump with him. Then he saw a SQUIRREL! And the chase has begun. The squirrel did not want to play. Then Moose hears Dad's car and he takes off. Moose did not want to get in the car and go home he still have things to see. He found what he thought was a water bowl but really it was a swimming pool. After a nice long drink he decides to take a little swim. But he hears Dad again and off he goes. Then he finds butterflies. He gets dizzy playing with the butterflies. Then he finds a picnic basket with some chicken in it. He thinks he's a little hungry. But before he can grab a leg he is chased away. Once again he see Dad. He tells Moose it is time for him to go home. So Moose's adventure is over for today. Everyone is happy to see him. He dreams of his adventure filled day.

Moose is on the Loose was a really cute children's book. My 3 year old loved listening to Moose's adventure after he escaped out of the yard. I love that Moose is a realistic looking dog so children can relate him to their own pet. This would be a great book for early readers. We both really enjoyed the illustration.

This was a very adorable book! The art is great and it is a heartwarming story that I think kids would love to read in their circle-time/story-time reads. I work at a library and I know for a fact that the children who come in for story-time love dogs and picture books about dogs. I think that the large font "MOOSE IS ON THE LOOSE" is really fun and something that the children could shout together which creates a more engaging read. There are some things I think I would tweak, however. I think that the chunk of text would not blow over super well with the kids. It should be chopped up around the page, and I think it'd be more visually appealing without the bubble around the text. There were some times that the speech bubbles cut off and at one point it had no speech at all when context alluded that there needed to be. I'm not sure if that is just because I was using my mobile device or not, but it was a little confusing. Overall, I think that this is an adorable read for children with beautiful colors and fun expressions. I only recommend adding things like the "MOOSE IS ON THE LOOSE" more frequently to the book just so the children can interact with the reading with their teacher/parent/etc,. Thank you for letting me read and review this book. It was a delight and I look forward to seeing any changes and hopefully have it in my library!

Moose on the Loose by Dodie Leigh is a children’s story based on a big dog named Moose. Moose lives with his human family that includes a mom, dad, and two kids. There’s also his furry sister who’s a different breed. One day while laying in his bed, the front door is left open so Moose decides to go on an adventure. While loose, Moose meets a man who gives him ear rubs, meets and plays with other dogs, chases a squirrel, plays with butterflies, ends up cooling off in a pool and gets chased from a picnic basket. The whole time his human dad is following him. Moose finally decides to get in the car with him then they go home where he eats, drinks, lays in his bed and thinks of his next adventure.
This was a cute picture book for children. It was 39 pages long, perfect for a child’s attention span. The illustration was beautiful and story not difficult for a child to follow. The ending hints to a possible series which is doable.
