Dual timeline historical drama set one hundred years apart. Good characters and an interesting storyline.

Loved how the story was set 100 years apart and the book oozed historical information.
It was detailed and captivating from page one and I particularly loved Carrie’s story. It was delightful, haunting but an absolutely excellent read from start to finish.

The Smuggler's Secret by Lynne Francis

I love a good dual timeline novel and This one did not disappoint . Lynne Francis has wrote an beautiful and endearing book and she could now be my favourite author for this genre.
Exactly over 100 years we met Meg Marsh who after the death of her father is given the job and responsibility of looking after her family. She makes her money by translating French for the smuggling fraternity and gets more involved after her father's death.
Move on 100 years and we met Carrie a young teacher who is setting out a life for herself with summer picnics with her friend Ada and her two brothers.
I loved how the two stories unfolded and how they become entwined.
This story gives you all the emotions and jeopardy of the times our two find themselves in. Loved it.

This one is full of emotion and feeling.
Starting with the Marsh family, after their father died Meg takes over the running of the family and household. A lot of responsibility for one so young. In order to bring some much needed finances into the house Meg decides to get involved with the smugglers who she is already acquaint with, having helped translate messages in French for her late father. Will this have repercussions!
A decade later a young relative in the Marsh family, Carrie who is the local school teacher becomes friendly with Ada Hadley and her brothers Oscar and Jeremy. Over the summers they enjoy picnics, tennis, cycling and other pursuits. Carrie finds herself developing feelings for Oscar but is he the man she believes!
There are strong comparisons between the two stories, then when you think you know what’s going on along comes a twist.
Recommend it.
