Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for letting me read the ARC The Summer Girl.
A fast paced thriller that I couldn't put down. A mysterious, tense, emotional and plot driven story that I really enjoyed cause it didn't slow down.
A book I can recommend.

We are following Claire after she's got a strange text from her Younger sister which she knows isn't from Holly .
we follow Claire to the Island where Holly went.We are following a dual timeline between Claire and Holly. We are seeing what happened up until the days of Holly's disappearance. Whereas Claire is trying to follow the steps in the future of what Holly has been through up until her disapprance. I found that this pacing a little bit slow and it took me until about 50% of the way through the book to get a clear understanding of the story, it felt more like a who did it than thriller for me until that point.
This would be a fantastic holiday book given the characters' attendance at a party and a beach bonfire on Martha's Vineyard. The mystery definitely keeps you on your toes with a cast of characters that are surrounded by situations that make them naturally suspect. While some are foreseeable, the conclusion was unexpected. And sort of depressing as well. The Summer Girl is a must-read if you enjoy psychological thrillers.

Claire fears something has happened to her sister Holly. Holly is spending the summer an ocean away from home in Martha’s Vineyard when she fails to contact her sister. Holly always replies to texts so Claire immediately is worried. She flies to Martha’s Vineyard to find her sister. While there Claire find some people are helpful and nice and others want her to back off.
This story will capture your attention from the first page. As we get a little further into the book, multiple POV is introduced and we start to get pictures of Holly’s life in Martha’s Vineyard. I’ve read books by this author before and enjoy her way of twisting the story into what you least expect. Besides the beautiful and haunting cover this story will keep you reading late into the night!

This was an easy and engaging read. No surprises. Likeable characters and a plot that flowed. If you enjoy sister stories this book fills the bill as one sister comes to america in search of her missing sibling who’s taken a summer job on Nantucket. The setting rings true and is an appealing place to set a summer beach mystery. Overall, a solid read that will satisfy most mystery readers and which goes down well as part of any summer beach vacation

Claire’s little sister Holly has been working on the millionaire’s playground of Martha’s Vineyard for the summer, all barefoot beach parties and flirting with the local rich kids. But now she’s missing and none of the locals seem to care, including the police. They think a message Claire received is proof she’s safe. But Claire knows for a fact that’s impossible. What will she have to risk to find out the truth? Who are the locals protecting? And what does it have to do with another girl who went missing five years ago? It’s going to be a summer she’ll never forget.
Fun beach read for all the thriller lovers! Loved the dual POV by Holly and Claire. A slow burn thriller, but I was hooked early on and had to find out what happened. Who can you trust and who is telling the truth? Who was REALLY Holly’s friend?
I thought I had this one figured out, but I was wrong. Loved the twist and how everything fell into place. The ending would make a fun book club debate!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. This was my first book by Jenny Blackhurst and I will be checking out her other novels.
I read this book in just a few sittings. It was a very quick and enjoyable read. I enjoyed the way it was written from Claire's perspective and interwoven between her chapters you were getting the story of what really happened to her sister Holly told from Hollys viewpoint. I also really enjoyed that the author explored grief with the main character and didn't have her making stupid decisions for plot points.
I feel like I am usually able to figure out the twists in a lot of thrillers and I have to say that I was genuinely surprised by the ending. This was a super enjoyable "whodunit" for the summer. The only thing that would have been better was to be reading this book in Martha's Vineyard.
I definitely recommend getting a copy of this book!

Claire and Holly deal with the loss of their mother in different ways; Claire by drinking herself into oblivion and Holly by travelling from England to Martha’s Vineyard in search of adventure. When Holly disappears, Claire sets out looking for answers. This was a terrific popcorn thriller. Thanks to NetGalley and Canelo for the free copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Summer Girl by Jenny Blackhurst is a gripping and intense psychological thriller that had me hooked right from the start. The story follows Claire, who embarks on a desperate search for her missing sister Holly on the luxurious island of Martha's Vineyard. Faced with indifference from the locals and the police, Claire takes matters into her own hands and uncovers dark secrets lurking beneath the island's glamorous surface. The dual perspectives from Claire and Holly add depth and intrigue, and the shocking twist at the end left me speechless.
The writing is fantastic, and I was completely engrossed in the story, eager to unravel the mysteries surrounding Holly's disappearance and another girl's vanishing five years ago. Jenny Blackhurst skillfully weaves a plot that comes full circle, leading Claire on a relentless pursuit of justice and truth. I loved Claire's determination and honesty, as she fearlessly takes on the influential island family responsible for protecting the wrongdoer.
This book is an emotional rollercoaster, evoking rage, sadness, and triumph as the plot twists and turns. I was deeply invested in the characters and felt a strong connection with Claire's relentless quest for justice. The Summer Girl is a thrilling and thought-provoking read, and I can't praise Jenny Blackhurst's writing enough. If you enjoy crime and psychological thrillers that keep you guessing until the very end, this book is a must-read. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a captivating and suspenseful summer read.

I love a Jenny Blackhurst thriller - they’re easy to read, twisty and keep you on your toes.
They’re always hard to review though in a way because the things that make the story such a success are the clever elements that would reveal spoilers.
This one is a great summer thriller (not just because of the name!) - the Martha’s Vineyard setting with characters attending a party then a beach bonfire mean that this would be a great holiday read. With a cast of characters that are surrounded by circumstances that make them naturally suspicious, the mystery certainly keeps you on your toes.
The book is written on a dual timeline and this is great for helping to drip feed the clues to the truth. Holly’s chapters in particular which chipped away slowly at the hours of the night in question were excellent.
The ending wasn’t quite what I had guessed and that always makes for a satisfying ending. Overall a great quick read, would definitely recommend to thriller fans.

Claire’s sister, Holly, has gone missing but no one will take Claire seriously about the disappearance. Claire leaves England to come to Martha’s Vineyard to look for her sister. It’s quick and easy to read but pretty predictable. You can tell the author is British because the American characters use British terms quite often 🤭 I’d recommend for a quick pool/beach read. Thank you to Netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest review!

‘The Summer Girl’ was an unputdownable thriller that I devoured in one day! Jenny Blackhurst is an author who I know that when I pick up one of her books that I am guaranteed a great read! She is brilliant at writing thrillers that will entertain the reader. I think this is the best that she has written though as it is fully believable that people could act that way. I like it when a thriller is authentic and relatable as it's scarier if it feels like it could happen in real life. This is definitely the case here!
Claire’s little sister Holly has been working in Martha’s Vineyard for the summer and has been enjoying the life of barefoot parties and dalliances with the local rich kids. But now she is missing and the local police do not care. They think a message that Claire received is proof that she is safe. But Claire knows that is it impossible that Holly sent that message and heads to Martha’s Vineyard to find Holly herself. Who are the locals protecting and what does it have to do with another girl who went missing five years ago?
I devoured this in one sitting and was fully immersed in it. It was full of tension from the start, especially with that prologue! The tension is lightened with sparks of humour sprinkled throughout and the author had a wry way of writing at times. Both Claire and Holly come across as likeable girls and I especially thought that both girls were relatable with their actions which were born out of grief. I was 21 when my mum died and I fled away for the summer and had too many drunken nights as well.
The narrative I found to be entertaining and full of twists and turns! It was an engrossing read and at times I was mentally shouting at the characters for their stupid decisions. This would make for a great tv series as it really pulls at the heartstrings and the location would be a dream on screen! I did figure out that ending but the reveal was unfolded in a brilliant way!
Let me know if you pick this one up!

An interesting read with lots of twists. Some are predictable, but the ending was suprising. And also in a way kinda sad. If you like phychological thrillers then you definitely give The Summer Girl a try.
I got this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Net Galley and the Canelo for the DRC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. This book is set on Martha’s Vineyard, where Holly has gone to work. When she goes missing, her sister begins searching.
This is the first book that I have read by this author, I enjoyed this fast-moving thriller. with likable characters.

This was a good thriller, I enjoyed it. I liked the family dynamics and there was a bit of humour amongst the drama which is always good!
It would be easy to get confused with the shifting timelines and different points of view but I like a book like that, it shows you different perspectives. Quite interesting twists, not as straightforward as I thought it was going to be.
Enjoyable read and ultimately quite sad.

I quite enjoyed this book especially the setting in Martha’s Vineyard. The story was as expected, no surprises with the ending for me , having said that I would still recommend it as a good summer read . 4 stars from me

Holly travels from England to Martha’s Vineyard after the dead of her mother. Claire, her sister, stays behind and is not very happy that Holly is moving on and leaving her. When she notices that she has not heard from her for a few days and their cousin receiving a weird text from Holly, she books a flight to look for her sister. The local police thinks Holly is with a man and sleeping off a major hangover. This is Martha’s Vineyard, nothing bad happens here. But Holly is nowhere to be found. Clair learns that Holly got involved with two brothers from an obscene wealthy and important family. And one of the brothers may be involved in the dead of a girl five years ago.
I have read several books from Jenny Blackhurst over the years and they were all a solid 4 Star read for me. This book is no difference to me. It is an entertaining story which held my interest. Claire is a bit annoying but also has a bit of dark humor. There are one or two things which were never clarified. That irks me a bit. I have never been to Martha’s Vineyard but I always wanted to. Now I desperately want to see it. I liked how the author described it, it sounds absolutely beautiful. Maybe one day. Until then I will keep reading books from Jenny Blackhurst.

Ooooh this was good! I loved the plot, found the characters to be incredibly believable and that twist was sublime!

The Summer Girl was a great thrilling read that kept me wanting to know what happened! I enjoyed the dual POV in the book and I was pleased with the ending. The dry humor throughout the book was enjoyable and I enjoyed the various characters. I thought it was a great summer thriller read and I would recommend!

Happy Pub Day @jennyblackhurstauthor 🥳 I absolutely loved this book and the cover! It is the perfect summer thriller🖤 The setting of the Martha’s Vineyard area in the summer is perfect. I also really enjoyed the dual timelines and POVs to explore the story of Holly who goes missing while working a summer job at the local marina. I highly recommend buying it to read this summer!
Thank you @canelo_co & @netgalley for allowing me to read this book ahead of publication in exchange for my honest review.

This was a thrilling and suspenseful read! I really like Blackhurst's writing because she has a way of using time to aid in the creation and building up of suspense, something vital in a thriller such as this. The twists and turns kept me guessing and I just really really liked this book
