This book was AMAZING!! It's a super cute romance with a parallel timeline twist executed to perfection 🙌 I can't believe this is Kate Robb's debut because it's sooo good 🤍
One of my favourite things about this read was the humour. I adore books that genuinely make me laugh, and this was definitely one of those experiences. The bantering and chemistry between Dax and Gemma combined with swoony moments and impossible choices made this the best friends-to-lovers romance I've read this year!
This is a well written, multilayered story with spot on main characters who fall for eachother in two different timelines and great spice. I loved every single page and 100% recommend it!

Thank you to Netgalley for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The story follows Dax and Gemma, who are best friends in one reality, but, after a bad break up, Gemma gets transported into a different reality where they could be more than friends. Not quite a friends to lovers story as only one side remembers their friendship, but nevertheless it was sweet (with a few spicy scenes too).
This took me a long time to get through as I struggled to get into this story. The title made me expect a witchy story for the Halloween season, with maybe a few spells that backfire or an exploding potion. However, this book has one spell and a quirky aunt who may possibly be a witch or may just know more than she's letting on.
The main characters were fine... I couldn't find myself rooting for them at the beginning/middle while the main character herself didn't know what she wanted. And, oddly, the description of Dax didn't quite fit alternate reality Dax, which added another layer of confuzzlement. But if you push through Gemma's character development, you end up with a sweet love story about taking risks, wearing your heart on your sleeve and supporting your friends and family.

This spells love was such a fun read! I loved Dax and Gemma so much, the perfect romantic rom-com for this time of year, had it all.. from humor to spice.
I can't wait to read more of Kate Robb book's She's fantastic.

This book was so much fun.
This is exactly my kind of romcom.
It's super cute and adorable and I want to reread it every year because it's officially one of my comfort books from now on.
It's Practical Magic meets Sliding Doors and I'm so here for the whole witchy/time travel vibe.
I'm usually not a friends to lovers trope girlie but oh my gosh...Gemma and Dax changed my mind real fast. They are perfect, funny and sweet together.
I was giggling, laughing and smiling through the whole book. THIS is what a good romcom should be like.
I can't believe this is Kate Robb's debut novel. Needless to say, she's one of my auto buy authors from now on.
I just have to mention that Gemma's sister and aunt were amazing side characters, I love how they helped her and supported her no matter what.
So if you're looking for a cute, fun and charming romcom pick this book up ASAP!
I'd like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for the e-arc of this book.

Soooo pleased I've read this, one of my favourite romcoms I've read in a while. I raced through and couldn't stop reading but also wanted to savour every moment. Fans of 13 Going on 30 should read this one! Looking forward to reading Kate Robb's future books!

I absolutely adored this book! I devoured the whole thing in an afternoon and completely fell in love with Gemma and Dax. The premise was so fun and was definitely one of the best time slip books I’ve ever read.
Romantic, funny, spicy, a protagonist to route for and a love interest to die for. I cannot recommend this book enough!

This book felt like a hallmark movie in book form and I loved it. A formatting error means random letters throughout are just missing, making this ARC a little hard to read, but it's a cute and quick read with alot of charm. The main character finds herself in an alternate timeline thanks to a spell gone awry, and the ensuing adventure leads to not only some genuinely funny moments but a lot of opportunities for her to learn something new about who she is and what she really wants from life. It feels a little like the movie Sliding Doors.
The storyline gets complex as Gemma has to figure out the right next steps to not only set herself on the right path, but also do right by the people she cares about. Along the way there are some nice spicy scenes and plenty of relatable inner monologue.
This book felt like a hallmark movie in book form and I loved it.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A great cosy romance read ideal for spooky season!
This Spells Love follows Gemma and the incredible journey that she ends up taking showing her that the grass may not always be greener on the other side.
The phrase "be careful what you wish for" is entirely appropriate for this novel and there are some really important lessons that can be learned from it.
Slight spoiler, the story contains the very popular friends to lovers trope which is written really well. There's also a great amount of humour and sarcasm which breaks up the more sensitive parts of the story. Its a really great balance.
There is some spice in this book (perhaps 3/5 if I were to give it a spice rating), there isn't too much nor is there too little and it moves with the pacing of the story very well.
I have very much enjoyed reading Gemma and Dax's story and I have already recommended to lots of people I know and will continue to do so.

If your entire history with your best friend disappeared. And you met now. Would you still end up the same level of best friends. Maybe less. Maybe more?
That's what this book addresses and it does it well! It feels like a unique plot the way it's written - and the ending will leave you feeling so complete and like it's exactly what it should be.
It's got that cute fun side, with some steam too. What more could you want!
I love the main characters, they seem to fit so well and be so well rounded, but also, such a strong cast of side characters!
While I'm not always a fan of the friends to lovers trope, it's done really well here and I think people will really enjoy the concept.

Erm hello where can I get my own Daxon McGuire? This guy 😍
The plot is unlike anything I’ve ever read before and I was drawn in from the first page.
Not only are the characters perfectly crafted and well developed which is always a selling point to me. Dax and Gemma are just perfect, their chemistry is palpable, not only in the alternative universe but also in the real world. These two are soo mates they just need a little push.
I also loved how the side characters are just as developed and blend into the story perfectly.

2.75⭐️
This book sounded really good, which is why I requested it in the first place,, I loved the plot it really read like a classic romcom (with a magical twist), the whole alternate reality being a kind of snap out of it lesson that leads to them fiNALLY getting together 🤭 I liked that it was friends to lovers, the unrequited thing could’ve been highlighted a lil more to really being the angst alive but I guess that wasn’t the focus so that’s fine!! I liked the element of soulmates/the two timelines low-key being connected etc. the “this didn’t feel like a first kiss” “i feel like i know you” vibes were great!!
I wasn’t a big fan of the fmc tbh, which kinda made me not care about what happened?? She wasn’t very likeable and didn’t really stand out to me- none of these characters really felt real or like they had any depth beyond whatever attributes were required to execute the plot (her wanting to own her own business, their dynamic etc.) they felt like characters, instead of people if that makes sense…
2 stars feel too harsh but I also skimmed the last 40% so 3 stars (which i reserve for average books) feels too generous since I couldn’t even get through it, hence the 2.75. The pacing really threw me off, the book hit 60% and everything after that felt like sequential tying up of loose ends as opposed to a natural conclusion to this storyline.
It wasn’t for me, for sure, but it did have some very cute scenes/ particularly their thing of “good night dax mcguire” “good night Gemma mcguire”
“Slip of the tongue?”
“Something like that.”
Bc i aTE THAT UP!! Loved it!! This will deffo be a favourite, people are gonna love this one, it just wasn’t for me 🥲

Cute, cosy and romantic! This is a magical, fun and enchanting read. The characters felt relatable and lovable, Dax is the most wholesome man ever and Gemma is so lucky to have him in her life! Time-travel/parallel universes are normally hit and miss for me as they can become confusing but reading the authors take on this was surprisingly easy to follow. I loved this cute little read and would recommend it to others.

I absolutely loved this book. It is amazing and I am so sad to have finished it. I really like the plot of the book when she moved timelines and saw what her life couple have been like. How the actions she takes could change so much of the other world, especially when Dax's shop gets burned down. It was so sad when she had to leave the other world. I wanted to know what happened to Dax and the other version of her after she left that life. What I wanted to know when she was in the different time line, what was happening in the original one and vice versa when she left it. After the end of this I would like to know more about her sister's life and what it is like.

Gemma is dumped by her boyfriend and is finding it hard to bounce back. Together with her aunt and sister they find a spell to change her life into one that never had him in it. However she discovers this brings huge changes, everything from her job and living arrangements, to the effects on her friends and family. While she decides whether to go back to the original life or not she starts a new relationship with her previous best friend, and sparks do fly. There are a lot of pages with all the details. A romance with a time twist

Buckle up for a wild ride with "This Spells Love" by Kate Robb, where rom-com meets alternate reality mayhem!
Gemma's breakup leads her to cast a spell and wakes up in a topsy-turvy world where her best friend Dax is clueless—that’s when she understands what true heartbreak is! 🌙
The book's got pining that'll make you want to shout "just kiss already!" The emotional rollercoaster between Gemma and Dax is like a never-ending game of romantic chicken. 🎢
Robb’s writing captures the hilarious awkwardness of trying to jog someone's memory without looking like a lunatic. Aunt Lily steals the show with her wacky antics, making you wish she would call you “poodle” too!🤣
"This Spells Love" is a cozy sweater in a breezy day and perfect for Autumn. It's a heartfelt, funny journey that'll leave you grinning like a Cheshire cat. Don't miss out on this heartwarming romp! 🌟
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin General UK for the ARC.

This has been on my tbr shelf for ages and I'm sorry I didn't get around to reading it sooner.
Gemma had just broken up with her boyfriend and is being propped up by her aunt, sister and best friend. After one bad night, her aunt suggests a spell to erase the relationship and Gemma jumps at the chance.
She's transported into a parallel timeline where everyone exists but in slightly different ways.
At the end of one month she has to decide between her old life and the parallel world.
Yes there's a love story running through the heart of the book but there's so much more: self discovery, family bonds, friendships and relationships.....
An engaging story suited to a beach or a roaring fire.

I love this witchy fun rom com! While it wasn't what I expected, i still loved the adorable and relatable characters, hilarious story and it's the perfect cosy read for this halloween. Highly recommend!

Gemma and her boyfriend broke up so as any adult would do she gets drunk with her best friend, sister and aunt. After a few drinks they perform a love cleansing spell, not the smallest move but innocent enough. Until Gemma wakes up the next morning in a strangers vet only to realize she’s been transferred to an alternate reality in which she never met met ex. Everything is completely different, her job, apartment and most importantly Dax doesn’t know her. She has to get close with him in order to reverse the spell and return to her old life.
This is such a fun concept, especially for all the romance girlies who’re looking for something different. A paranormal romance with a parallel universe. It’s easy to follow as the reader gets to follow Gemma from the OG universe as she deals with the damage of the swap and moral dilemmas. Although I wish we got to know what the other Gemma got up to to a larger extent. Some answers are given in the end but I still have questions which dragged down my rating a bit.
I loved seeing Gemma’s character growing as she goes thru the motions. Realizing all the good things she had and a few changes she’d like to make once she gets back. I also really like the others characters, mainly Dax and her family. And the romance is great as well, not sure if I’d call it friends to lovers or second chance depending on how you look at it it could be either or possibly both. The tension and chemistry is amazing.
I toughly enjoyed this one but I would’ve liked in even more if it had a dual pov.

I absolutely adored this book!! It gives me hocus pocus vibes 🥰 I loved Dax, he was definitely one of my favourite characters along with Dougie and Brandon ☺️
I love a cure cosy witchy book and that's exactly what this book was. I'd highly recommend especially for the spooky season!!

This was a really quick and easy read.
I really appreciated how well this was written, Kate Robb will certainly be an author that I keep an eye on to see what she does next.
It characters that I actually cared about, which can't always be said.
I also liked that it didn't follow the step-by-step formula that many similar romances take. It felt fresh and kept me captivated the whole way through.
And thankfully there was no silly third act breakup either - hurrah!
