Thank you to NetGalley, Storm Publishing and the author for the ARC of this book to read and review.

A creepy house, a brutal murder and strange-ish characters in the middle of pandemic chaos makes this a gripping crime / detective / psychological thriller with a great ending that I definitely didn’t expect. Not usually a fan of covid / pandemic / mask wearing inclusions in my fiction, but this one worked for me. So there’s that! Oh and the prologue will definitely hook ya! The gorgeous cover doesn't hurt either!

Gregg Dunnett is a new author for me and I like his style! I thought this was a solid start to a new series (Detective Erica Sands) and it leaves you ready to see more from our brave & strong FMC!

It was a great read. I was intrigued from the very beginning until the very end. Gut wrenching, tear jerking good read. It got a 4 star because it brought the pandemic in it and it felt kind of political and should not be in a fiction book. I felt that could have stayed out and came up with something else to fill the story but overall I really enjoyed this book. Would defiantly recommend and reread!

A great thriller told in short chapters and two different POV! It flowed nicely which I like in a thriller.

I can’t wait to read all the others in this series.
Thanks netgalley!

The Cove is told from 2 points of view DCI Sands and Christine Harvey. It is a murky world of children being affected by their fathers being serial killers, children being abducted and murdered, criminals being convicted of murders they didn't commit. Can DCI Erica Sands unravel the mystery surrounding the murder of Emily Slaughter and did they get the right man?

A solid thriller, but it lost it's way a little bit and was quite slow in places

A little girl was brutally murdered, the culprit is dead, life goes on, or is it going on? Elsewhere a father dies of Covid-19, and the mother of two decides to move with her children to the countryside. All these people are connected, but how? To find out you need to read The Cove. It's a "creeping up on you" kind of a read. You know something is not right, but who is actually to be blamed?

I enjoyed reading the book, but the second part should have been shorter. It moved a bit too slow. Otherwise i quite liked the pace as well as getting to know the people. The story slowly unfolds, until the true story is revealed at the end. Can't wait to get to know Detective Erica Stone better! She has such an interesting background, and I am sure there is much more for the reader to find out!

The Cove by Gregg Dunnett follows the story of DCI Erica Sands as she works through the mystery of a horrific murder.

Although the crime in this story seemed pretty cut and dry, the author had me reading on in anticipation. There were unexpected twists and turns in the case that I would never have guessed.

The main characters were well written and seemed plausible, but what really sucked me in was the fact that even though it seemed like the murder was easy to figure out, there were all these little bits of bait left to cast suspicion on other characters.

If you like a good police procedural, then this is definitely the book for you. Thank you to the author and the publishers for granting me access to this advance release copy through Netgalley. I am voluntarily leaving a review and all opinions are my own.

Erica Stone is an investigator that follows her own rules during the investigation of the kidnapping and murder of an 8 year old girl. Christina Harvey is a mom trying to help her own two kids adjust to life after the death of their father. This book is set in England and right at the dawning of the Corona pandemic. I guess it has been three years, so I can start reading about how the virus crept in and slowly consumed all of our lives.

This was a thriller that had me convinced, doubting, guessing, re guessing, and convinced until the very end...which was actually quite disturbing. The book was told from both the perspectives of Erica and Christian. Both women have secrets that they must come to terms with.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.

The Cove set in Dorset (Lulworth Cove) is another beautifully written book from Gregg Dunnett. The cleverly written plot line twists and turns and I certainly did not predict the final twist. Gregg Dunnett shows sensitivity in his writing for the characters who all have interesting and challenging life histories. If you have not read any of Gregg Dunnett's books I would recommend this one as a good place to start. Interestingly this was one of very few books I have read that references the COVID-19 pandemic - something that has affected all our lives in recent times. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to be an ARC in return for an honest review.

The first thing that grabbed my attention was the cover! It’s so beautiful 😍And then I read the first page and wasn’t satisfied until I figured out what happened !! It kept my attention. Wasn’t boring at all like some thrillers that go into story mode are. I love a book with parts. And this book has 4! My only dislike about the book was the mention on COVID. I just don’t like when fiction books mention that when it could’ve been just as good if not better without the mention of it. But I’ll give it a 3 star. There really was just one major twist in there. I love thrillers so maybe I just like the fast paced ones better idk. But it was a really good book, good story. I did notice a few typos:words that weren’t needed in sentences, sentences that didn’t make sense, but looking past that I liked it !

I was drawn in from the very first page and read this book in one sitting. The book starts out in an interesting way with a diary entry from a young boy. I immediately was intrigued and wanted to read on to find out the meaning of this entry. The Cove is thrilling and suspenseful. I do wish the main characters were a bit more developed. While I really enjoyed the storyline, I found it difficult to connect with the characters. Overall I really enjoyed reading this book and I thought the ending was very good! I am looking forward to reading more in this series.

Thanks to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for a digital ARC.

The Cove by Gregg Dunnett is the first book in the Detective Erica Sands series, and I am glad that it won’t be the last. Anyone that is a fan of psychological thrillers, crime, and mystery novels will not be disappointed with this new read. The characters are interesting and drew me in, especially Detective Erica Sands. This novel has twists that were impossible for me to predict. The characters were well developed and the reader really got insight into their thoughts, behaviors, and actions, which I always enjoy in a good psychological thriller. Christine Harvey moves to a new town with her two children after losing her husband to COVID. Unbeknownst to her, the occupants of the house next door lost their young daughter to a horrific murder. Although the crime has supposedly been solved, Christine is led to believe that the individual held responsible for the kidnapping and murder may not be the true person to blame. Christine is sick with worry as her young daughter is similar in age to the child that was brutally murdered. As secrets come to light, lives will never be the same. Thank you the publisher and NetGalley for the advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.

After tragically losing her husband to covid Christine decides that it would be a good idea to move her and her son and daughter away from the city and live by the sea. She finds a beautiful clifftop house online and makes the purchase. This gripping story is all about their move there and discovering that they have moved into a house once occupied by a family whose young daughter had been found murdered on the beach. In fact the parents are still living in the other half of the house next door!
The story is told in several parts beginning with Detective Erica Sands catching the killer in a horrific shoot out. With this back story and then the second half telling the story of the house move the story really keeps you guessing. I really enjoyed reading this and I was definitely engaged throughout. This was almost five stars for me. The only thing that prevented me from that was I did find the ending a little far fetched even though I liked the twist. That is just my opinion though and I definitely would not want to put anyone off reading this. I thoroughly enjoyed this.

In need of a fresh start Christine Harvey movies her entire family to a beautiful cliff top house on the Dorset coast. With an amazing view who wouldn’t want to move the this amazing cliff top house. The only disadvantage is that the house that Christine now own the second house on the Dorset coast where the original owners own the other half. Unbeknownst to Christine just in the other house a child was abducted and brutally murder and the prime suspect was the child’s father; who currently stills lives there with his wife. As Christine and her family are starting to adjust to their new lives - Christine learns more about the case. While at the same time, she starts to notice the strange behaviors of her new neighbors. And comes to her own conclusion that the policed had the wrong suspect all those years ago. Christine who wants to keep her children safe at all costs she tries bring her concerns to the police, however everyone keeps telling Christine to move on from the past. However as her concerns for her daughter Molly’s safety. She begins to worry that moving her family to the Dorset coast was not the best decision for her family.
The Cove by Gregg Dunnett is the first book in the Detective Erica Sands series. It is written in multiple perspectives throughout the entire novel. There are four parts with a prologue - which is told through the eyes of a mystery girl. The first part follows Erica Sands who is the Detective Chief Inspector who is the lead detective on the newest murder on the beach near a cove on the Dorset coast. This section follow how Detective Sands as she follows the various leads to discover the what really took place on this beach. On the other hand, part 2, takes place six month later and is told from the point of view of Christine Harvey as she and her family are adjusting to moving Dorset coast. Part three and four and continuing of Christine trying to find the truth about what really happened on the beach. When I first started this book, I was initially very confused when reading the prologue, however it was able to keep my interest as I continued to the first part. Dunnett did an exceptional job at keeping me engaged throughout each section of the novel. In addition to this there were many plot twists that I did not see coming! As a veteran of mystery novels, I tried to figure out the mystery as Dunnett was telling the novel and I can say that I was not the least close! In addition to this, Dunnett has a very simple that was very easy to understand.
Overall, I throughly enjoyed reading The Cove by Gregg Dunnett and would recommend it for anyone who is a fan of crime shows and murder mysteries. This novel reminded me a lot of ABCs Castle and would definitely appeal to fans of this show. As a result, I would give The Cove by Gregg Dunnett 5 stars.

Fine Flourish..
The first in the Detective Erica Sands series begins with a fine flourish as readers are introduced to a new detective. A compellingly written crime thriller come police procedural. A well crafted plot is populated with a cast of credible and well drawn characters, twists and turns aplenty, a well imagined backdrop and an intriguing mystery at its’ very heart. Engaging reading.

This was good!!!! A creepy tension building up which left me without a clue! The author has done well in creating a creepy atmosphere on several levels: the house, the landscape, the characters, everything fitted perfectly. The only thing that could have been better is revealing more of the murderer's family's reactions at the very end..... I can't say more.... A great, creepy and thrilling novel! I will definitely keep a look at book 2!
I received a complimentary ARC of this novel from NetGalley and I am leaving voluntarily an honest review.

There is so much to say about this book. After reading the first part, i was so impressed. The author described the scenes so well I felt like I was watching a movie instead of reading. It felt like I was on scene !! Starting the 2nd part, I was confused thinking it was another book but it soon connected haha.. That book was such a ride, I didn't see the twist coming. It's the first book I read from this author and I am very much impressed and it won't be my last.
