In “Best Friends”, the story revolves around two women: Alice and Ollie. Alice seemingly has it all—a stunning suburban house, a handsome husband with hidden tattoos, and three adorable children. Meanwhile, in Boston, the unnamed narrator struggles with her marriage to Ollie and feels isolated. When she unexpectedly reconnects with Alice after two decades of silence, she decides that Alice doesn’t deserve her perfect life. This twisty thriller was a fun read.

Dark, terrifying and shocking. This was a super delicious book filled with twists and turns and sociopaths! "Best friends" seems like the wrong thing to call Alice and Evie.

A page turning tale of revenge and spite. Lies and secrets will destroy your life. A thriller that will keep you up all night to finish reading.

There is nothing like revenge being a dish best served cold and that was definitely the case in this gripping domestic juicy thriller.

I really enjoyed reading the two Characters lives as they are world's apart, one is keeping a secret and the other one is insanely jealous and will do anything to bring that perfect world to it's knees.

This book kept me hooked and engrossed from start to finish.

This book started off really good. The chapters in the book switched between the past and the present, this kept me really engaged with the story. The story lacked some tension and I found the plot twists a bit predictable. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book.

This was an intriguing read that kept me hooked but at times some of the storylines felt a little far-fetched.

I also found the characters very tricky to connect with or invest in which is why I haven’t rated it higher.

Not my favourite but still glad I read it!

"Best Friends" by Rebecca de Winter is a riveting psychological thriller that promises readers a heart-stopping twist. De Winter masterfully crafts a narrative filled with suspense and intrigue, making it a compelling read for fans of the genre.

One of the notable strengths of the novel is its ability to create a sense of unease from the outset, setting the stage for a gripping psychological journey. The promise of a heart-stopping twist adds an extra layer of anticipation, keeping readers invested in the unfolding events. The characters are well-developed, contributing to the overall depth of the narrative.

However, readers familiar with psychological thrillers may find some common tropes within the storyline. While the pacing is generally effective, there might be instances where certain elements feel somewhat expected. Despite this, De Winter's adept handling of suspense and the promise of a significant twist contribute to the novel's overall appeal.

In conclusion, "Best Friends" lives up to its billing as a gripping psychological thriller with a heart-stopping twist. De Winter's storytelling prowess and the well-crafted characters make it a compelling choice for those seeking a suspenseful and immersive reading experience. While the novel may incorporate some familiar elements within the genre, its execution and the promise of a surprising twist distinguish it as a captivating and enjoyable thriller.

I was turning pages and wanting more. Major twists throughout and woah that ending. I absolutely get comparing it to Gone Girl or Girl on the Train. I cannot wait to read more from this author.

I can't resist books about toxic female friendships so I had to read this one as soon as I heard about it! This was such an interesting novel about Evie and Alice. They grew up living next door to each other and while they claimed to be best friends they were more like frenemies! The novel goes back and forth in time as we learn about their childhood and where they are now. Evie is struggling to conceive and also has doubts about her husband's fidelity so when she gets the chance to go to London on secondment, the city where Alice now lives, Evie can't resist. As the two women reconnect it's apparent that the frenemies situation is still the case and things begin to get more twisted between them. Neither of them can be trusted, and neither of them are likeable; some of this novel requires suspension of disbelief but it remains a book that is impossible to put down! I really enjoyed this one!

Telling the story of two childhood best friends who reconnect a couple of decades after a major event which dragged them apart, this is a psychological thriller which keeps you guessing right to the end. It's really well-written and an exceptionally good debut novel from this writer, who I'm sure will become a household name.

This psychological thriller is set around Alice and Evie, childhood friends who lost touch in circumstances that present one with more favourable life chances than the other.

The power of social media means that a little click of a button can reunite them years later even though they are worlds apart in so many ways. Best friends, back together again. Or are they?

Told from Evie's point of view, meaning that as a reader you know you are only getting one clear side of the story and with such an unlikeable cast of characters there's a nagging air of not feeling like anyone is entirely trustworthy or blameless - no matter how things might appear at first glance.

All of which makes for a twisty psychological thriller and I will keep an eye out for more from this author.

A book full of twists and turns which delivers exactly what it promises. I was hooked from the outset. Evie and Alice are both such flawed characters but the author still manages to evoke empathy from the reader for both of them. With a narrative encompassing infertility, infidelity, motherhood, work life - you really get a three dimensional sense of their lives. And then at the end you're whacked with a twist you didn't see coming. Highly recommend.

I so enjoyed this incredibly well-plotted dark novel featuring double, triple and quadruple crossings.

Themes of betrayal, deceit and revenge run wild alongside excellent character development.

'Best Friends' does feature potential triggers regarding pregnancy, IVF and miscarriage. The emotion provoked by these matters added a certain depth that is sometimes missing from crime fiction.

I was hooked by 'Best Friends' and have no doubt other readers will be too.
