Eleanor and Charlie are sisters who have a complicated relationship. It is just after lockdown has ended and the girls are trying to find their way in the world once more. Eleanor breaks up with her boyfriend Mark following his confession to an almost one night stand with an unnamed woman. Charlie, an aspiring actress, is hoping to begin a relationship with her director and house mate Helen. But fate has other things in store for the two sisters and before long, they both find that they are keeping secrets from each other - secrets that could end up destroying their relationship for good.
I have been back and forwards over whether to give this three of four stars - it's not that I didn't like it, I just didn't feel attached to the characters and I felt they both came across as quite whiney at times. I also didn't care for the liberal use of drugs, I'm not stupid, I know it goes on, I'm just not fond of the normalisation of it and the idea that unless you are taking drugs you can't be having a good time.
It's a nice easy read though and I found myself being constantly drawn back to it to find out what happens - basically, what you think is going to happen is what happens. I did enjoy the fine line between taking care of yourself and your wants and how they impact on the people around you though.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Seeing Other People, with a prose that is similar to Sally Rooney, will take you on an emotional rollercoaster and deep character journeys. Following the lives of two sisters, Charlie and Eleanor, we see how their lives change following lockdown as their lives begin again and they have to discover their new selves.
I loved the rawness, no-holds-barred feeling of this and that we get to see a journey a lot of people struggled with after COVID. Although this is quite slow paced despite being short I loved reading about these sisters and seeing the impact different events have on their lives.

In "Seeing Other People" by Diana Reid, Charlie and Eleanor find themselves at a crossroads as they navigate the complexities of love, self-discovery, and personal boundaries. After enduring two years of lockdowns, their lives are beginning to change. Eleanor ends her relationship with her boyfriend, while Charlie's acting career is taking off once again. Both sisters are ready to pursue their dreams, but they face the challenge of figuring out exactly what they truly want.
As they grapple with conflicting principles and desires, Eleanor and Charlie are confronted with the blurred line between self-love and selfishness. They must confront their own limitations in self-awareness and come to terms with the mistakes and lies that arise in their quest for fulfillment.
"Seeing Other People" delves into the raw emotions of two women searching for their own paths in life. It explores the delicate balance between personal aspirations and the impact they have on relationships and self-identity.
