It's half-term holidays for many people and books can be just the "ticket" to entertain and spend cosy times together.

The Duck With No Luck has great rhythm throughout the humorous plot. Join the journey as you follow Duck who is on a quest to find his luck. Will he be able to find it? Along the way you come across Wise Owl, Swan and Fox who Duck hopes can help. Books where different animals are met brings adventure, no matter how long or short and this one has a good pace to it.

The moral is to appreciate what is around you more and see this as being lucky, which in turn helps with emotional and resilience building. It is great that that there is humour and illustrations throughout, which makes it fun for children.

It's a great book to read independently or with adults at home, in a nursery/ELC/school, Bookbug and rhyme time sessions.

Lovely kids book!

Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my review.

I am going to start by saying my 3 year old is obsessed and we have read this NUMEROUS times, I think its time to get an actual copy rather than reading it online!
She was quite worried that the duck would be eaten by the fox so we were both glad that didn’t happen!
The repetitive rhyme was great to keep her engaged and by the end of reading it twice she could join in with the important parts. Lovely book to talk about not always being in a hurry to do something!
Illustrations were eye catching and we had conversations about both the story and the pictures.

So often the books for this age range have the lesson about emotions and whatnot, but not the entertainment value. This includes both, in the tidy story of a duck that just cannot have a single break of luck. Everything else will break, yes, but not his run of fortune. What will happen when he seeks the wise owl for guidance – or will he, as luck would have it, never find her?

We've all thought the grass is greener or that other people have all the luck, and failed to see the good life right in front of us, and this book points to all of that as well as gives us a witty little narrative. So it's going to be useful and enjoyable at the same time – and we're left pointing to the choice of art style as the thing that knocks it down a grade or two. Just our luck to see this and think it not as visually appealing as it should be, then – but it's still a strong four stars.

Children will enjoy spotting the ways in which duck is unlucky in the wonderful illustrations and will enjoy the repetitive rhythm of the story. Great for discussing prediction and the benefits of perhaps not being in such a hurry! A simple but very enjoyable story that will soon become a firm favourite with little ones.

My 7 year old daughter read this book at bedtime tonight and said it was good. She liked the story and was glad that duck didn't get eaten by the fox!
She said the pictures were great, the characters were okay but not quite cute,

Parent review- this was a quick read and did have a very subtle moral storyline, however, there could have been more to press this. For example, Duck goes back to Swan who asks them to stay and play, Duck does not return, even at the end which infers that duck hasn't quite realised that there is luck within him to share with others. The illustrations were nice but could have been more standout and original. Overall, as a parent I would not likely buy this book as a gift as I think there are more fun stories out there. However, I did like the title and cover.

Five year old was able to read this on his own, he loved looking at the beautiful pictures and talking about them. Great story with a lovely message.

I read this book with my 5 year old daughter at bedtime last night and she loved it!

She read the story to me if I am honest and she flew through the pages.

She was so pleased she didn’t have to ask for any help with the words and it was brilliant that it was another book that she could pick up and read independently.

The story was well written and well developed too – we both really enjoyed it!

It is 5 stars from me for this one – we loved it and the illustrations were just lovely and really suited the story – very highly recommended!
