It’s a while now since I read this book but I’ve looked at the notes I made when I finished it as I can’t bring a lot about it to mind. So my findings were a rather slow predictable read but with an interesting idea at the heart of it.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.
Evie Hunter's "The Alibi" is an addictive revenge thriller with a compelling plot and well-drawn characters.
When Leona Carson discovers Scott's lies, she decides to end their relationship. However, Scott doesn't take rejection well. He begins a campaign to ruin Leona's life, just as he has done to many other women. Determined to stop Scott and reclaim her life, Leona seeks help from the police. But Scott always has an alibi—someone ready to take the blame. Frustrated by Scott's deceit, Leona tracks down his latest alibi, Hugo Rossiter. Instead of finding another excuse, she encounters a man who is equally fed up with Scott's actions. Together, they are determined to make him pay once and for all.
What Works:
- The story unfolds at a brisk pace, keeping readers hooked. The cat-and-mouse game between Leona and Scott adds tension and intrigue.
- Leona is a relatable protagonist, and Hugo brings depth to the narrative. Their motivations and struggles are well-developed.
- Evie Hunter explores themes of justice, revenge, and the consequences of deception. The moral dilemmas faced by the characters add layers to the story.
What Could Be Improved:
- The pacing is generally excellent, however there are moments when the plot feels rushed. A bit more exploration of certain events would enhance the overall impact.of the story.
That said, "The Alibi" is a gripping thriller and Evie Hunter's writing keeps readers engaged, and the unexpected twists make this a satisfying read. If you enjoy revenge-driven narratives with strong characters (as I do), then add "The Alibi" to your reading list.
Note: Evie Hunter is actually the pseudonym for two authors, Caroline McCall and Eileen Gormley, who met at a creative writing workshop in Dublin.
Good thriller with a wonderfully done twist. This one was a definite joy to read. I loved all the characters in this one.
Kept me turning the pages and not being able to put it down. A great psychological thriller and definite must read

Evi Hunter is a talented writer and her books always keep you on edge.
This book has many twists and turns and certainly keeps you on your toes with some nasty characters.
Good story that starts off a little slow but builds up to a crescendo.
Worth a read.

Big Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books. for my Copy
An excellent story that has a woman who breaks things off with her man named Scott but he does not like that so he does everything in his power to get back at her. At first, she has no help because even though a few police believe what she is saying there is no evidence that Scott was around. It finally takes a man by the name of Hugo to come to her aid for he is getting tired of Scott as well. But will he be able to help her, will just the two of them be able to get Scott to break and make a mistake? See what happens in this good book.
A nail-biting revenge thriller full of twists and turns you simply won’t see coming, The Alibi is the latest chiller by Evie Hunter.
When Leona Carson met Scott Jessop, she couldn’t believe her luck. She thought Scott was a decent man who had her best interests at heart – until she realised that he was a liar and a cheat. When she called time on their relationship, Leona thought that was the last she was going to see of Scott, however, he didn’t take kindly to her ending things with him, so he decides to use all the weapons in his arsenal to ruin her life. As Leona sees everything she has worked for disintegrate, she goes to the police, however, Scott has somebody taking the rap for him already – Hugo Rossiter. Is this going to spell the end for Leona? Or will Hugo’s involvement in Scott’s case end up being a blessing in disguise?
Hugo is certainly no friend of Scott’s. Like Leona he is sick and tired of his lies and manipulations. Hugo is fed up of being used by Scott and when he hears of Leona’s predicament, he realises that if they join forces they could just about destroy the man who has ruined their lives.
Will Leona and Hugo’s plans bear fruit? Or is it all going to end in tears?
The Alibi by Evie Hunter is a high stakes, unpredictable and heart-stopping tale of vengeance, payback and deception packed with shocking plots twists and jaw-dropping revelations that will keep you hooked from beginning to end. Evie Hunter knows how to capture your attention from the off and keep you hooked until the last page and she has done this once again with her latest thriller, The Alibi.
Perfection of a slow burn and danger emphasising 'keep your friends close and your enemies closer'. Leona was stubborn, a fighter and determined to get revenge, to reclaim her reputation with the help of Hugo whom she has acused of providing Steve, her ex an alibi. Leona finally realizes everyone needs help at some time, and Hugo is there to offer not only protection but to see they both get their revenge.
I received this book as an arc and am voluntarily submitting my review.
This Slow burn revenge thriller had me hooked from page one, revenge is a dish best served ice ice cold. The twists and turns meant I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I think the ending was a little quick and we needed more I am hoping this has left scope for a sequel - I will definitely read more Evie Hunter when I want a strong female protagonist and a a twisty novel.
This was an enjoyable read, some great characters both despicable ones and strong resilient ones.
I did end up shouting at Steve a few times, some of his actions were 😳.
I loved how Leona teamed up with Hugo to deal with Steve.
A must for fans of the author.
A few twists and turns in this book to keep me interested, it’s a lovely read and I read this quite quickly.
If you need a summer, beach, or vacation read yet want something to keep you glued to the pages, this book got you covered! It somehow manages to be it all – an easy and fast-paced read, with a strong plot, yet it has this lightness about it. It will not make you think and re-think all the plot and twist nuances for days and weeks, yet it will not let you go while you read it.
There is a murder, there is mystery, there are weird characters, there are lies, there are more weird characters, there is suspense, and there are somewhat mild, yet captivating and surprising plot twists.
I couldn't read The Alibi fast enough. It was so bizarre at times knowing that this man, Steve, had so much power over these women, however, those who climb the highest have the futherest to fall. Leona was the one person he underestimated. He was going to bring her down and everytime she tried to catch him or have him brought to justice he has an alibi. Will she ever bring him down or will his Alibi always protect him? As for Leona...don't get mad, get even! I love that and Evie Hunter brings it to life.
I had an enjoyable few hours reading this one. After Leona rejects her bosses advances, he turns up the vindictiveness. With the help of Hugh, Leonard races to find the evidence she needs to take her boss, Steve, down for good. There were a few twists and turns that kept me interested.
Don’t get mad, get even.
When Leona turns down her bosses advances, she discovers he doesn’t take rejection lightly and has launched a revenge campaign to ruin her life. But the police won’t take her seriously, because Steve ALWAYS has an alibi!
How???
The premise of this really had me, but I didn’t feel the book delivered as it could have done. Slow in parts, rushed in others, and a little bit predictable, but nevertheless, a quick and mostly enjoyable read.
3 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Evie Hunter and Boldwood for an ARC in return for an honest review.
Leona thinks her boss Steve is a decent bloke but she quickly realises that is not the case. When Leona rejects Steve he doesn't take it too kindly and starts to harrass and make life hell for Leona so when she goes to the police he always has a alibi. One of those alibis is Hugo who also doesn't think much of Steve. Will Leona and Hugo be able to stop Steve? I very quickly felt that this book is a page turner as it drew me in bit by bit. It starts out a little slow but steadily picks up the pace. I enjoyed the plot of revenge and loved Leona's big dog who is a beautiful big softie at heart. I loved the dynamics of the relationships between the characters particularly between Leona and Hugo. A gripping story of domestic violence, revenge, deceit and lies that I relished. I have found another author to add to my ever growing list. I loved the writing style.
3.5⭐️
What started off as a woman fighting back to reclaim her life is now the opening of a can of worms, personal scores being settled and a narcissist on the loose.
I enjoyed the plot. I love how the author wove the various complexities together- Leona’s fight, Steve’s revenge and Bizham’s downfall. It was very interesting to read and see how all of these events merge together.
For a book that took its sweet time developing (not in a bad way), the ending felt a bit rushed for me and did not provide the closure I felt the book deserved.

This story starts slowly, but the pace and suspense build with each turn of the page. There's lots going on in this well written book. When Leona turns down her boss Steve as she thinks he's just using her and will never leave his wife. But Steve is not prepared to let her go, so a great game of cat and mouse ensues. The characters are strong, well developed and described. I was rooting all the way for Leona to get her revenge on Steve. This story covers domestic violence, revenge and deceit.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #BlodwoodBooks and the author #EvieHunter for my ARC of #TheAlibi in exchange for an honest review..
