The illustrations do an excellent job of contrasting the two main characters' points of view. The way that the two worked together to help Fred face his fears was a good example for kids to see.

An Unexpected Thing is a sweet book to help young children address their fears and anxieties. The illustrations are beautiful. I loved the beautiful geriatrics in color. Fred and Coco were so sweet and I enjoyed the message that their differences showed. Coco was able to help Fred with his fears. It was really touching. My son enjoyed the book and stayed engaged throughout.
