My daughter loved this book! (Me to)
I can’t wait to purchase a hard copy for my personally library!!
Who doesn’t love Diana. Fun way to introduce a wonderful/awesome women in history to little kids. I love the illustration.
This book has the sweetest illustrations. I love that the narrative is true to the hardships Diana faced but addresses them in a gentle way that is appropriate for teaching children. Honestly, this would be a great book to give to a child dealing with a divorce. Adults should be prepared to talk with children about divorce, bulimia, and mental health. Another great Little People, Big Dreams title.
I picked up this book because my students have to do a biography report each year. Last year, one of my students picked Princess Diana. The goal of the assignment is to learn and present what the person contributed to society. Based on the biography books that were available at the time, it was hard for my student to clearly see her contributions and importance of Princess Diana's role. I have other books from this series, so I was hopeful for this one. This book, simply written, helps give a snapshot of some of her important accomplishments: her compassion for AIDS patients and bringing attention to issues such as mental health and landmine removal. I thought it was interesting how the book included her battle with bulimia. It also touched on her unhappy marriage. The last two pages include more detailed notes about her life. Overall, I think this book would be a great addition to my children's biography collection because it would help my third-graders understand more about Princess Diana's life.
Another great addition to this collection of stories! I'm glad that Diana got her own story, especially on the heels of the King Charles book that was released earlier. Lovely illustrations and a great job focusing on Diana's passions and charitable impact = her work to cut through stigma and highlight the humanity of people in all different circumstances and walks of life. Easily digestible and a great level of detail for the target
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book!
A book meant for children to learn about The People's Princess, Princess Diana. The first part of the book tells her story in highlights including her struggle with blemina. At first I was put back by this thinking it was not appropriate for younger readers but as I kept reading, the story explains how important it was for Diana to speak about her struggles to make it save for others to talk about it. At the end of the book the author includes a timeline and more information about Diana in a biography writing.
An interesting take on the fairy tale life of Diana Spencer, and how the fairy tale turned into a horror story as she realised her Prince was far from Charming. So much happened in Diana's relatively short life, that the author was going to have to make some big decisions about what to include and what to omit in this short book. Here's where they lost me - they focus mainly on her eating disorder and charitable work.
I guess this book was written with the understanding that the reader would already know something about Diana - at the very least that she's William and Harry's mother and that she died in a car crash - as a lot of major events in her life aren't included in the picture book, just presented as facts in the factual 2-page bio that closes out the book. However, knowing that this is a book for kids, I'm guessing a lot of them won't have any idea who she is any more. I found this a really strange account of Diana's life.
I read this children's book with my mom and the truth is that we both admire Diana very much. She clearly conveyed her love for her to me and we had the chance to read this together, which led us to talk about her life and all that she suffered due to royalty and cowardly and evil men.
It's interesting and I think it's very good that they talk about the bulimia she suffered, and also about how she learned to love herself (although I don't think we'll ever really know this).
We have to remember that it's a book for childrens, that's why I think that the things that are said and the way they do it is correct, it's simple and to the point. Bluntly. Very cute illustrations too.
And as the book says, she will have lost the title of "princess" but she won that of Queen since she was part and continues to be part of the hearts of many people.
Thank you Frances Lincoln Children's Books for the ARC I read through NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
I continue to love the Little People, Big Dreams series which writes biographies intended for young readers. This biography is on Princess Diana. I’ve read many grown up biographies about the Princess and was eager to see how she would be described for a generation who never knew her. The book focuses on her kindness and being a mother. It does talk about her husband loving someone else and speaks about her bulimia. It does not cover her death or the paparazzi. I have usually enjoyed the illustrations in these books but it is hard to recognize her in the drawings. For someone so iconic that is disappointing. Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for the temporary ARC via NetGalley and I am leaving a voluntary review.
I LOVE this series. Not only for my kids, but for myself. Like, LOVE, love. I can’t express that enough. This one in particular I knew I wanted to read. I distinctly remember when Princess Diana passed away. My mom loved her and followed everything about her. I was 10 when she died, but have very fond memories of her and seeing her on television. This is a great book telling about her life. She had a difficult adult life being married to Charles. I feel like they talked about it and talked about hard things in a magnificent ways. Ways that kids will understand without being too graphic or descriptive. I loved learning more about her.
I absolutely love the little people, Big Dreams collection.
As usual, the biography is well written for kids and perfectly complemented with beautiful illustrations.
The book focus mainly on the kindness of Princess Diana and everything is told in a gentle and child appropriate way.
Due to some heavier topics such as bulimia and depression I would read it to/ with kids older than 5..
I would like to thank Frances Lincoln Children’s Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This little book tells us a little about the life of Princess Diana, and includes some of the struggles she went through (bulimia, Charles’s affair, his envy of her public acceptance) in a child-appropriate way. It doesn’t mention her death or relate the circumstances around it in the main text, although it’s mentioned in the notes at the back. The book focuses mostly on her kindness and public service, and how well-loved she was.
In all, quite well done. Thank you to NetGalley and to Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for access to this ARC.
Thank you NetGalley and Frances Lincoln Children's Books!
I love this series, and I get so excited to pick each one up. Unfortunately, this one felt a little short for me or it lacked depth. I understand Diana has many amazing accomplishments and it may be hard to simplify or condense it. I do love these books though and its adorable illustrations <3.
Thank you, NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Children's Books, for the Advanced Readers Copy (ARC) of Princess Diana (Little People, Big Dreams, #98) by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. I was delighted to be approved to read this book for free in exchange for my honest review.
This book is perfect for children between the ages of five and seven and is a great way to introduce kids to non-fiction stories. Not knowing much about Princess Diana, I actually learned something about her. I had no idea that Diana had an eating disorder. In my opinion, this biography is a great way for parents to have a discussion about eating disorders with their child. The illustrations by Archita Khosla were fantastic and added to the story.
Five out of five stars is what I give Princess Diana (Little People, Big Dreams, #98) by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. I hope this author and publishing company continue to write and publish additional biographies for children that are as engaging as this one.
Another wonderful book from "Little People,Big Dreams. This time, it is a biography of Princess Diana , the People's Princess.
As I have mentioned this before in my other reviews, this book series has never failed to surprised me with information that is presented (which can be sensitive for younger readers - in this case, divorce, bulimic, etc) in a most comprehensive manner .
A wonderful book that helps young readers to learn about a wonderful person who left this earth too soon.
I adore Princess Di! She was an amazing woman and this is a great book to teach kids about her. It does mention her bulimia so just be aware kids might ask about it. Not a HUGE fan of the illustrations but I don’t dislike them either.
I would like to thank NetGalley for allowing me early access to this ebook. All opinions are my own.
These books might just be the most adorable thing ever! I was already familiarized with the concept when I requested it on NetGalley - the idea is to easily show children the achievements of important people.
In this one, particularly, we get to see Princess Diana for herself, rather than as Prince Charles’ wife or Princes Harry and William’s mother. The art work is amazing and the message for children is clear, showing both Princess Diana’s impact on other people’s lives and the problems she struggle with, which feels very pertinent to bring awareness to young children. A must read, for sure, as well as the rest of the collection.
This review will also be available on my Goodreads account and, closer to release date, in my instagram profile.
The Princess Diana volume of Little People, Big Dreams is my first engagement with the series. As an amateur royal watcher, I couldn't resist! I love the visual style of the art, especially the references to many of Lady Di's famous outfits as Easter eggs. I appreciate how the book handles some of the more complex elements of her life story, such as the collapse of her marriage and her eating disorder, for young readers. It felt representative of why the People's Princess remains so beloved, without going into the more salacious elements of her story. This was a cute book!
As per usual, this book series is incredible ! From the illustrations to the storytelling, this is a perfect little book for our little ones. What a way to discover the iconic Prncess Diana !
Thank you to Net Galley for this e-copy of Princess Diana by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara in exchange for a honest review. This is a very awesome early grade school appropriate story of an important heroical figure whose life was cut short but contributed and embodied the perception of love to the world.Even though she faced many obstacles in her short life, she overcame them with bravery. She was an inspiration to many people and her story deserves to be told to the world.Very well written.
As one other reviewer mentioned, it’s extremely hard to summarize all of the wonder that Princess Diana showed the world, in just a few pages. I understood what the author may have been going for, but I felt a lack of depth in the book. The majority of the focus was on her bulimia, and that felt out of place compared to other things she dealt with…but that could just be because I have my own perception of who Diana was (and I actually didn’t know she struggled with it!). Diana was such a caring, outwardly loving, and accepting person who challenged the ridged world she married into…I’m glad there’s a book out about her though!
