I have enjoyed all the previous books I have read by Hannah Lynn and I also love spending time on canal boats, so looked forward to reading New Beginnings at Wildflower Lock.
It is an easy going, feel good story but I felt it was over too quickly and I read it in one sitting as a result. I would have liked a bit more depth plot wise and conclusion was very abrupt but I enjoyed the book all the same and I’m looking forward to the next instalment of Daisy’s adventures on her canal boat. 3.5*
Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy in return for an honest review..
BRB…looking into buying a canal boat and moving to the UK.
New Beginnings at Wildflower Lock is a lovely story of new beginnings and lost history. It surprised me more than once and delighted me often. I loved every character, including the September Rose, and those that we didn't meet on page, like Daisy's father. I wanted to know more about him particularly, and whether Pippa's fears about him were realized. I liked that this wasn't a romance exactly, unless the romance is with the canal life, but Pippa and Theo have the optimism of a new beginning.
I would have liked an epilogue as I love seeing characters living their happy life but perhaps as side characters in a future book?
Thanks for the ARC: I'll definitely be recommending this one.
Another great book by Hannah Lynn and one I enjoyed. Daisy May is not living the life she wants but fortune has come her way in the form of an inheritance. In her new narrow boat she sets off for Wildflower Lock. So will her new life be just what she wants it to be?
This is a feel good type of read, quite a quick read and one that is a bit of fun. I like the two main characters, Daisy and Theo and love the setting and the narrow boat. Looking forward what the next book brings. I would give it 3 1/2 stars only for the reason that although it is fun and a nice read it didn't have much substance. But it is still a good book.
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
OMG!!!!! I absolutely LOVED this book!!!! Such a well written story, with great character building. I love that it isn't just a "Typical" romance where boy meets girl and they fall madly in love and they live happily ever after, no I love the fact that you have two stories in one with Daisy's relationship with her mother and also the blossoming relationship with Theo!
I absolutely love the canals and narrowboats and follow several YouTube channels of people who live on board narrowboats, so when I saw this is just had to read it and I wasn't disappointed at all. I 100% give this a 5 star rating and would highly recommend this book.
A great book by Hannah Lynn. Loved the storyline, it had me gripped when Daisy was finding out more about her past. I liked the slow progression of the relationship between Daisy and Theo too. Wildflower Lock sounded beautiful and I could totally imagine them gliding along the canal in the September Rose. One thing I will say is that it ended so abruptly with a business idea that Daisy had never mentioned before, so I really hope that there is a second one!!
What an enjoyable book to read. Daisy has been raised by her mother and has no contact with her estranged, now deceased, father's side of the family. When her paternal grandfather dies, she inherits his canal boat, moored near Wildflower Lock. As Daisy learns more about the boat, she unexpectedly also learns more about her family history and the father she never knew. Daisy appreciates the help of neighbor, Theo, to refurbish the neglected boat and get it in condition to sell. Upon losing her job, she has a decision to make regarding what's next for her.
I received an advanced reader copy from Net Galley.
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
This is the first book in a new series, which I read in one sitting.
Daisy life never included a father, and now she is informed that she has been left a barge, that too by a grandfather Daisy never knew.
There’s lots of twist and turns throughout the story. The story showed the importance of friends, what it takes to renovate a barge and doing what you love.
I loved the setting and the characters
I recommend this book.
First in Hannah Lynn's newest series, NEW BEGINNINGS AT WILDFLOWER LOCK is a sweet, introductory book to the life (and struggles) of Daisy May. After unexpectedly inheriting a canal boat, Daisy May begins to unlock new passions and parts of her past some in her life would rather keep hidden.
This is a very quick, very sweet read-- but be warned, it doesn't end with any true satisfaction on the readers part, just a bunch of loose ends and the hope of a sequel. The setting is picture (or painting?) perfect, and is such a beautiful part of England that doesn't seem to be explored much by romance writers. WILDFLOWER LOCK is utterly charming and perfect for fans of Jenny Colgan and Nicola May.
Nice enough story, slightly lacking in plot but easy quick read. Beautiful cover which will draw you in. Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy
So not only do I need to save for a camper van but now after this wonderful read I need a canal boat.
This book was wonderfully addictive and I flew through it in 24hrs. I loved everything about it and it was the perfect escape into the picturesque life of living on the water.
I am desperate to read Book 2 (if there is going to be one), it was the most perfect ending.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
An easy to read, feel good story but the ending felt very abrupt. Hopefully there will be a follow up as I would love to know what happens next.
Whimsical charm! I loved the unique setting of a boat and the varied and complicated characters. I could picture the scenes and really felt connected to daisy and her pals. The writing is smooth, detailed, and uncomplicated. I am becoming a huge fan of Ms. Lynn!!!!
Please read this book for yourself, don’t let my review turn you away. This book was just not for me. The writing style flows and it’s a cute easy read but I found the plot lacking - I often ended up dozing off or doing something else when it came time to read
Absolutely fantastic plot! Could not put the book down once I began reading it. Cannot wait for it to be released. I will recommend it to everyone I know!
BLURB:
At 25, Daisy May’s life is not living up to expectations. Her childhood dreams of being an artist feel as unachievable as a committed relationship or managing to save enough money for a deposit on a house. But a surprise inheritance could change all that.
After Daisy learns she’s now the new owner of a forty-foot narrow boat, she sets out for Wildflower Lock, where the fresh country breeze and the calm water is enough to assure her everything will be okay.
MY REVIEW:
I wish there had been an indication that this was book 1 in a series, I don’t like being lied to, even by omission. I hate a story that ends with no satisfactory conclusion of any of the plots or subplots, just a cliffhanger.
A light, simple read. The plot was okay, and follows Daisy as she inherits a boat from her father’s side of the family, a side she has never met before. New truths come to light, changing what she thought she knew.
The characters were wonderful, but I found the plot lacking something.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in return for my honest review.
This author is new to me this year and am so pleased to have found their books as they write perfect escapism stories that are so much more than just romance and have real characters with relatable life issues.
I read new beginnings at wildflower lock in one sitting as l couldn’t put it down it was such a poignant and beautiful escapism read both with the storyline and the descriptions of the setting and was a book that felt like a really positive read and that new beginnings are possible with a little bit of determination and help from friends.
I loved the characters of Daisy and Theo and could visualise the scenes of the book playing out on the page and loved how their characters developed as the story progressed. Reading this made me craze the peace and quiet of the waterways and also brought back memories of a fabulous barge holiday I had years ago.
I am really hoping that this is going to be the start of a fabulous series as would love to read more about how daisies new journey continues especially after how the book ended.
I was really looking forward to reading this book, I love canal life. Thought the story line was good, descriptions of the canal, boat and lock were good. The interactions between the characters were fun but I hated the ending. I understand that it is part of a series and that there needs to be a link or a cliff hanger, but this just stopped!, I seemed as if I had missed the last few chapters and I felt very short changed.
I would love to read more, but only because I felt invested in the book. I hope the next book has a better way of concluding.
Theo deserves better lol. Daisy is just so scared of falling is love..... my boy Theo deserves better!!!! Loved the book but i still think it was lacking something idk what, but yeah.

I loved this book. Daisy had grown up without a father and suddenly she is left a barge by a grandfather she never knew. Lots of twists . Won’t spoil them. You learnt about doing up a boat , following your dreams and how important friends are. Love the idea of living above a bakery. Hannah Lynn is a good writer. Ending a surprise
