One of my favourite authors, Joy Ellis who never fails to please.. The River's Edge is a novel that continues the series featuring Detective Inspector Jackman and Detective Sargent Marie investigating the death of a young man with his throat slit and body sleek with expensive massage oil.. This novel is one of the best thrillers of Joy Ellis and keeps the reader enthralled until the final pages.

Mysteries within mysteries fill THE RIVER’S EDGE, the tenth in the excellent Jackman and Ellis series. A TV crew is filming in Saltern-le-Fen and the small town is full of costumed police and associated personnel. All appears to be well but the police consultant assigned to the show tells Detective Marie Ellis that there’s a problem but he doesn’t know what it is. Then the body of a naked young man is found at the river’s edge. Another body is discovered in a nearby lake. Is there a serial killer? What is happening “behind the scenes” at the film set? Why is a mysterious couple monitoring computers 24 hours a day? And is any of this related to a sociopath in an experimental psychological observation prison ward?

Detectives Jackman and Ellis have their work cut out for them in this intricate mystery. It is police procedural at its best. Fans of this outstanding series will enjoy seeing Marie finally settling down while Jackman tries to prevent his terrible grief from affecting his work. THE RIVER’S EDGE is a 5 star read.

Thank you to NetGalley, Joffe Books and Joy Ellis for this ARC.

DI Rowan Jackman, DS Marie Evans and the team return for their tenth adventure, The River's Edge, another classic Joy Ellis crime thriller.

Bodies of young men are being found washed up. Meanwhile an old colleague of Marie Evans is fearful of his life after working on a film set as a police advisor. Something isn't quite right, but he's unsure what's really going on. To top it all off, an unwelcome return by a nemesis overshadows everything.

There is a lot going on to keep track of, as the action moves between key players. At times I found this dragged the pace and wished that we saw less of some of the villains as I found them far less interesting. However I am impressed by the way Joy Ellis can plot out all the moving parts and hold it together. I am glad, though that we finally see the end to a certain villain as I think this story arc has been carried over too many books.

Character-wise, we see the toll Jackman's work takes on him, especially with developments in the previous book. (As an aside, I personally was glad for that development as I found there was zero chemistry between those characters and their scenes used to make me cringe.) As always, when things get bleak, the team have each other, they're a found family, which I think is the nicest thing about these books, especially the strong partnership between Rowan and Marie. For me the biggest highlight was, as always, Orac. I think these books always need more Orac in them as I love the effect she has on Jackman.

Overall The River's Edge is another, solid, enthralling crime thriller. I'm especially looking forward to the audiobook as Richard Armitage brings these books to life perfectly.

Thanks to Joffe Books and NetGalley for the ARC.

Fantastic book ten in this best selling crime thriller series, DI Rowan Jackman and DS Maria Evans and it's a cracker of a read.
An unexpected call from Dougie Marshall, who is in big trouble,
The team also hear exciting news of a new crime series been filmed on the Lincolnshire fens, Fen Division Five with some heavyweight actors,
An then a drowned body is found, a very handsome naked Adonis has not been in the water long and it's looking like a strangling they now had to buckle down with a murder on their hands and there's more to come.

Oh hells bells this book was sure fast pace from the word go, chapter after chapters as you read on that will take your breathe away, Jackman and Evans are a match made in heaven with their privates lives on going as well they work so brilliant together.

I loved The Rivers Edge with almighty twists you just don't see coming.

The little village is buzzing with the thoughts of a filming crew coming.
It will be a police drama and with an ex police officer on set. Jackman got a tip about the crew from another officer, and of his threat not to continue working for them. Something was going on, he felt it was illegal but had no idea what. A good series and following the lives of Jackman and the team
Given ARC by Net Galley and Joffe for my voluntary review

Another winner from this talented author, featuring a much-loved character who continues to stand the test of time. As always, you can read Ellis’ books as stand alone but they benefit from the build up and context of past books in the series. Some unusual new aspects feature in this book, including greater insights into the perspective of the perpetrators.

I found this to be a breath of fresh air. Joy Ellis has done it again cleverly continuing the Jackman saga with an unusual mystery crime which I thought to be something out of the ordinary but realistic. I also liked the psychological insight from behind the prison bars and how the plot unfolds with non stop drama and suspense.
Undoubtedly the best in the series. Highly recommended.
