Very cute and poignant book! It hits really close to home with empathy. I have a grandchild with a disability so this is a great book to help other kids understand how to have a little empathy for those around us. And know it’s ok that we all don’t feel the same way but we can feel kindness towards one another. The illustrations in this book are great as well. What a wonderful teaching book with a fun element to it.
Empathy can be a difficult concept to teach children of any age. I feel this book captures it perfectly. It explains that there can be a huge number of emotions when it comes to empathy. The book shows a variety of situations where empathy can be seen and felt and the importance of putting yourself in someone else’s shoes.
The story also personifies empathy as a superhero which I thought was fabulous!
Wonderful picture book to help with emotional reliance and development.
Great story explaining and giving examples of empathy and how it can mean any emotion we feel. This cute story explores what empathy is and how many different ways we can show it. Showing kids how to share their emotions and help understand each other. This is good for home and I think it will be great for classroom. Worth sharing to your littles.
Empathy is a Caring SuperPower
Orbit is a storyteller who looks like a walking world globe. He visits the children in a park and tells them about a superpower called EMPATHY. The children learn that empathy means understanding and also caring about how someone else is feeling.
The children also learn why it is important to talk about our emotions. There are both happy and unhappy emotions.
Before leaving, Orbit reminds the children to be the friend they've always wanted.
My Thoughts
This book is a wonderful story to teach children about empathy. I like the way the characters are a diverse group of different races, nationalities, and children with physical disabilities.
The illustrations are beautiful and add value to the text.
Empathy is not something that comes naturally to everyone. However, it is a skill that can be developed and improved over time. By practicing empathy, we can improve our emotional intelligence and build more meaningful relationships with others.
Recommended for children of all ages.
MY RATING: 5 Stars Out Of 5
Thank you to NewGalley for an excellent reading opportunity.
Always a supporter of children's books that help young readers understand more complex emotions. Empathy is such an important emotion to understand especially in the world that they are living and growing up in.
With the amazing and fun illustrations and the easy-to-understand concepts this is a great book for home, school and especially school counselors!
My nine-year old and I really enjoyed The Power of Empathy!!
Grateful to have received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley & BooksGoSocial.
The Power of Empathy is a beautifully written and illustrated story to teach children about the importance of empathy. It would be an excellent book for parents, teachers, & mental health/school counselors, etc to share with their children, students, or clients. I highly recommend this book.
The words were hard to read since they were typed on top of each other. They went off the page and ran into the art. It was practically impossible to read. The art is fine, nothing spectacular, but not bad. I am not sure what the story is.

A great topic and so import for young kids. Glad to have authors bringing books like this into the world with diverse characters and thoughtfulness.
The Power of Empathy teaches that it is okay to have feelings and what you should be feeling. Kids don't understand feelings a lot of the time and this book helps show them what these are and that it is okay. I highly recommend this book to parents, babysitters and even teachers. Thank you to NetGalley, BooksGoSocial and Ruth Maille for the ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily and this is my own opionion.

Orbit is an active visual representation of earth. He lets the children know that Empathy is a superpower which they already have and can use to help others. Orbit also helps them to see and understand their own emotions.
The illustrations by Remesh Ram are delightful, fun, imaginative, and colorful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or teacher or your public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from BooksGoSocial via NetGalley. Thank you!
A short and informative book for small children that features easy to understand dialogues about how to express one's emotions and why it's important and how to realize the feelings of others and empathize with them.
I am not a professional in psychology or working with children and didn't read it with a child, so the following are only my opinion as an adult and based on only assumptions about children's books that may or may not be true.
With that said I'm sorry but have to admit that I didn't like the book as much as I had hoped I would.
I wasn't a fan of the art style though that I has already knew looking at the cover so it was definitely a read for the topic for me. But still, Orbit even creeps me out for some reason. Also, I don't really see a reason behind why the continents are mirrored (on a N-S axis) though I guess it's intentional as it's consistent throughout the book and letters in the pictures are not mirrored. It is also strange because at the end of the book there's a page showing other books from the series some of them with mirrorred continents some of them not and the Orbit figure showing those covers there has non-mirrored continents. Also checking for the other covers online I found the same inconsistency. Consistency or not I still don't see a reason for mirroring continents. I'd see a reason of using different map projections (because of realistic continent proportions) or looking at the planet from another angle (in order to defy the Northwestern cultural dominancy bias). These would all be valid reasons and ways to represent the Earth in a childrens' book differently from what we are used to in map representations. But I don't see a valid reason for mirroring and I think it might get confusing for children. Unless of course I'm ignorant of something in which case please, feel free to educate me.
I don't see an artistic reason either, like mirroring being a metaphor for "this is not our world but could be" or something because this would certainly be too abstract a concept for the age of the audience.
As for the text, I personally don't really like these kind of educator characters having a dialogue with children characters though I know this is a valid and common approach, it's just not my preference.
However, I really liked all the examples the children characters came up with for emotions and showing empathy, this can really help children understand the abstract concepts. I was really happy that empathy for animals was listed though would be even happier if some other animals were listed too apart from common pets (to reduce speciesism). I'd also have liked a scene where an example is shown of showing empathy towards a complete stranger, preferably someone much different-looking from the POV character.
I really liked the examples of empathy where the characters were happy for someone else.
It's an important book and I'm really happy to see empathy being thematized in a book for small children.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book is so great to introduce and teach kids about empathy and their emotions. This would be so great to use in the classroom and help with students and their social emotional learning. I love the diverse characters too which is so important to show in books, so all kids can see themselves in books. I love the different vocabulary words it introduced and explained which is a perfect to have more discussions with kid(s). Excellent book for any classroom library and any home library!
This is a powerful book for kids to teach them about empathy and recognizing emotions, both in themselves and in others. I like that the book includes recognizing and caring about our own emotions, in addition to others. It's something that is often overlooked, as lots of kids have trouble processing and voicing their own emotions.
The illustrations in this book are really cute and go well with the story. This is a must-have for libraries, schools, and all families that value emotional sensitivity and empathy. Loved this! ❤️
[Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this eARC in exchange for my honest review on the book!]
What an amazing book!! May middle son, age 6, has emotional regulation issues and we use the spot emotion books but this will be another addition. Fantastic book filled with inclusive characters, vibrant colors and a very good lesson.
Adorable children’s book that helps explain and teach what empathy is. This book is filled with diversity and will help teach children how to be empathetic towards others.
I love the approach with this book. As a toddler teacher in a child care center I can see myself using this book to help teach children about Empathy and emotions. It will definitely be on a future lesson plan. The illustrations are beautiful. The way the message is portrayed is perfect for young children to understand. This will definitely be recommended to the other teachers at my center as well!
Thanks to netgalley!
Menarik,di sini anak-anak belajar tentang empati dan emosi lewat diskusi Orbit dan anak-anak lain, ada contoh-contoh juga soal perasaan apa nih yg lagi dirasakan kalau dia seperti ini.
I absolutely loved this book. It is such an important lesson on empathy and I loved how the author explained it in words even young kids could understand!
This cute book is a great way to teach children about empathy and how to apply it in their everyday life.
It shows how to be empathetic towards friends, family and even animals.
A wonderful teaching tool that every classroom should own.
Make empathy one of your superpowers.
Orbit the globe is on another adventure showing children how to show empathy. It is important to understand your own emotions before you can help others with theirs. In a school like setting, with many different emotions, and children, you and your child can together discuss in a fun way about our emotions and what to do when emotions come rolling in. I found the story well thought out and the illustrations friendly and inviting. Highly recommend.
A special thank you to Books Go Social and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
