I enjoyed this one. Decent pace, fabulous setting and it kept me guessing and reading. It stretched to unrealistic at times and certain elements veered into the would never actually happen but sure its fiction, that's allowed.
The Contest is about a group of people who work for a prestigious travel company. Florence and Jacob are selected to lead two rival groups to climb Kilimanjaro in a challenge set by their controlling off the wall boss. Whoever wins will claim a promotion and the loser will lose their job. Not everyone in the groups will make it to the summit and there is sabotage and backstabbing a plenty along the route.
Not realistic but an enjoyable enough read. The Kilimanjaro location helped hold my interest in this one and I enjoyed the vivid descriptions of the location. The ending made up for some of the outlandish twist along the way.
I listened to the audio of this one and the narration was perfect and easy to listen to.
A great read – lots of surprises and an excellent ending. A high-stakes domestic thriller that is utterly absorbing. Twists and turns abound, it will have you locking your doors and checking your windows.
A competition between two teams trying to make it to the summit first. Those who do not win may not have a job for much longer. There is rivalry, mystery and sabotage along the way. Who will be in the winning team?
The characters held my interest, even the ones I did not like very much! The characters were realistic and kept me invested throughout the book. The setting made this story very different and fascinating. The story slowly unfolded with twists and turns, but maybe a little too slowly for me. I enjoyed this book, it was well-written, but I just wanted a little more from it.
Heather Long's narration for this audiobook was brilliant, it was absorbing and enjoyable. I am glad I had the opportunity to read the book, and I will certainly be reading more from this author.
Thank you to the publishers, Karen Hamilton and Netgalley, for this advanced audiobook copy in return for this review.
This book held my attention enough to get through it, but i wouldn't say it was amazing or anything. Two siblings who just found out about each other compete with their teams to see who will take over their father's company. Lies, murder, suspense-this book has it all. Ending has some good shocks.
The story for this one immediately made this one a must read as it was so intriguing! A competition to the summit, working rivalry and steeped in cut throat conniving sabotage and hidden secrets? Yes please. It mostly delivered on all fronts although at times I felt like it could have played up to the rising threat and the thrill of suspense but it was super enjoyable and I enjoyed the slowly unravelling story.
I found the audiobook entertaining and easy listening and it made my time in the gym (and commute to work) that much easier! I had no idea how this was going to play out and some of the twists and turns I absolutely did not see coming. I seemed to get through it in no time.
All in all it was an enjoyable book with an enticing plot and a clever storyline that I found easy to keep going back to and the narrator was fab.
