The beginning of this book kept me reading, however towards the middle/end of this book I was just ready to finish it. It seemed to drag on.

It wasn't quite what I expected just going by the cover and the title there was just something lacking but still a good read

Overall 4.5*

The cover is somewhat ambiguous, as the story is not about a nurse who kills off her patients but a woman who happens to be a nurse who kills those around her whom she deems to have caused her problems or been nasty to her at some point. Her whole mission in life to maintain a high level of care for her mother who is in a home in a permanent catatonic state after her husband dies and Lissa will do anything to keep her mum safe. Lots of twists and turns and with a great ending.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC to review.

⭐️⭐️/5

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a chance to read and review an early copy of this 7/21 release!

Man this one was a disappointment! But I guess that’s what I get when I request a book based off the cover. I really thought that this was going to be more focused on nursing than it was, which honestly would have made for a much more interesting story/thriller than what I read.

First off, the main character was insufferable. Oh my gosh I couldn’t stand her. I think that was the point honestly but wow. She was awful. Her obsession with her dead father and getting revenge for her father essentially never loving her and her mother was really tedious. The number of times she used the word bigamous to describe him was excessive. It was as if she was trying to avenge for the life she never got that she felt she deserved. And everything was about the money. How she could get more money. What shady things she could do to get more money. And I’m talking some very shady things.

The story fell flat, and the twist at the end wasn’t even twisty. It literally didn’t happen til one of the last five chapters of the story. It dragged on but I was invested enough to finish, so kudos for that. Nothing happened most of the story, besides our main character being obsessive over other peoples lives. The opening sentence of the book was a good one though and definitely drew you right in.

While yes, she is a nurse, I think I just expected so much more than what was given. I solely based this off the cover and the title and had super high hopes for it, and was left very disappointed.

“I was going to be a serial killer; I didn’t want to be a monster.”

Do No Harm…

Bullied, overlooked and under-appreciated, Lissa McColl decides at an early age to do very bad things.

After graduating from nursing school, Lissa finds herself respected and valued for the first time in her life. But she hates her job and the selfish, rude and inconsiderate people she has to deal with.

But being underestimated in this job had its advantages. Lissa can get close to people, find out their secrets… sometimes with deadly results...

This was one hell of a ride! You know an author has written a great character when she’s horrible and a murderer, starting at a VERY young age, but you still root for her. You feel bad for her and even find yourself liking her.

This crazy psychological thriller had me glued to the pages, just wanting to know how things were going to play out for Lissa. There were quite a few twists, some more believable than others, but all keeping you flipping those pages.

Thank you to Netgalley, Boldwood Books, and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to Boldwood books and netgalley for this arc. For me,this book was different in my opinion. I liked it and was drawn into the story straight away..
Lissa had a rough childhood and has done things nobody should have to do. When lissa becomes a nurse, she hates her job, but she works out that getting close to her patients comes with finding out all their secrets, and how she can use them to her advantage. Great read. Definitely recommend

I would give this book 3.5/5 stars. This one was a disappointment for me. It started out very strong. The first 30% was crazy good, thought it could be five stars. Then it slowly fizzled out. The story could have been so much darker and fun. The ending happened, and I was like that’s it?! I give it points for being a quick read, and the storyline was intriguing.

The Nurse is about Lissa, who is bullied and mentally disturbed as a child. She has a tragedy occur when she is a teenager and has her whole life change. We fast forward to when Lissa is now 29, she is a lonely nurse who resorts to plotting against and blackmailing others.

I work as a nurse so thought this book would be a form of stress relief… It just kinda fell flat for me. Don’t think I’d recommend this one. Thanks to NetGalley for the advance reader copy in exchange for a review. The Nurse officially releases on July 21. It will also be on Kindle Unlimited. I have this review posted on my Instagram.

I had higher hopes for this book, I expected it to be a more psychological thriller about a twisted nurse that poisons her patients but this was not that.
Was the nurse a murderer? Yes
Did she kill her patients? No
Did she have clear notice? Kinda
Was her killings warranted? Not really
Did she herself almost get killed by a serial killing nurse? Yes

I wish the character of her mother and Theo were more, they were instrumental to the progress of the book but they barely spoke and had minimal interaction.

Overall I just wanted more

Alyssa McCall was bullied in a very lonely Little girl the only attention she got was when her mom was lonely and her dad was away on business trips she craves her mothers attention and at school just wanted to be left alone. After a horrible incident at school two things happen she decides she wants to be a nurse and her social status goes up. When she’s 16 years old her life imploded her dad passed away and she found out the horrible secret he was keeping the worst of all her mom went into a catatonic state after finding out the news. Alyssa took matters into her own hands and handled everything she could and even became close friends with the lawyer who read her father’s will. She eventually grows up and becomes the nurse she always wanted to be in although she lives a very low profile wife had a training session she meets a girl named Carol Who wants to be Les‘s friend and even and Lissa cannot figure out why. There is something about the girl however that irritates Alyssa and she she wants to figure out what it is but when she does will it be too late? I love Valerie Keogh books she is an author who all I have to do is see she wrote the book and I am down to read it and The Nurse if the very first sentence doesn’t drag you in the Navy thrillers or not your jam because OMG that is a killer beginner and the rest of the book follows suit. This is a definite five story and I loved how in this one we see the different stages of her life and it’s all entertaining twist after twist and a definite bang of an ending. I want to thank BoldWood books and Net Galley for my free arc copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

WOW where do I start? Let me take a breath, I feel like I've done a round in the tumble dryer. This book had so many twists I don't know whether I'm coming or going!!!

The main character Lissa who is larger than life, at 10 was bullied but stood up to the bully in an extreme way.

The story accompanies Lissa through to her adulthood and all the traumas she endured along the way.

I loved this book. Definitely my cup of tea!! This had me hooked reading late into the night as I just simply couldn't put it down.

Fantastic, very addictive and a must read.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review.

I really liked The Nurse by Valerie Keogh. It was different than I anticipated.

The story is about Lissa McColl. Being bullied, overlooked, and under-appreciated, Lissa McColl learns at an early age to do very bad things. As a nurse, she is respected and valued for the first time. But Lissa hates her job and the selfish, rude, and inconsiderate people she has to deal with.

But being underestimated in this job had its advantages. Lissa can get close to people and discover their secrets… sometimes with deadly results.

The storytelling was done well and kept my interest throughout. The character development was done well. The story content was twisted and both fun and scary to read.

I would recommend this book and this author. A 4.75 out of 5 stars (rounded to 5).

This book really hooked me in the beginning. We see Lissa as a child and how she turns to violence to solve her problems. After her father’s death, her mother becomes a shell of herself and Lissa is basically left on her own at 16. If you’re into psychological thrillers, you’d like this book!

Oh wow, this was a brilliant book. The story was so good about a young girl who was wronged at school and the lengths she goes to deal with it. A twisted book about revenge. I loved this one from Valerie it was so intense and at times I wanted her to be found out but, I didn’t want the story to end. Highly recommend this one. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

I’d like to thank Boldwood Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Nurse’ written by Valerie Keogh in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Lissa is ten years old when Jemma moves to her school and it’s not long before she encourages the other girls to bully and ridicule her. Lissa may not be the most popular girl in her class or the most beautiful but she’s had enough of being called names and decides to take matters into her own hands by causing Jemma to have an accident. During Lissa’s research into the working of a human body she decides to train as a nurse and although she cares for her patients she also makes use of the secrets that are often revealed.

‘The Nurse’ is a thoroughly enjoyable psychological thriller with an addictive plot that’s had me gripped from start to finish. The story is so full of suspense and intrigue that I’ve been unable to stop reading as I’ve become more involved in Lissa’s life and her strengths and weaknesses. This is the second brilliant novel I’ve read by Ms Keogh who has the ability to keep her readers turning page after page and just as I’m wondering what’s going to happen next the plot explodes into a thriller of mammoth proportions with a totally unexpected twist that ties up all the loose ends – or does it?

Lissa McColl is a loner who is bullied at school and not somebody you would look twice at. But one day when Lissa has had enough of the bullying, she takes matters into her own hands. Then Lissa’s family falls apart and she discovers secrets she was never meant to find out.
Now Lissa is a nurse and has a job where people finally look up to her. Although she is trusted with the patients in her care, she hates the job and the people who are often rude and ungrateful. With fitting in too many hours of work for the nursing agency and visiting her mum, Lissa is left with very little time to ponder her life. Lissa’s mum needs 24-hour care and is in the best nursing home possible. Lissa personally funds the nursing home fees and will stop at nothing to make she has the necessary money to keep her mum there.
Having read and thoroughly enjoyed some of this authors previous books, I had no hesitation in selecting this one. It’s an easy read which is well-paced and gripped me from the first page. I loved the chilling and creepy tone to this book, filled with just the right amount of psychological suspense. Definitely a 5-star read.

The front cover lead me to believe this was gonna be a serial killer nurse. The burb is well written and gives a good description of the overall plot..
There is good character development of lissa and at times as a reader you feel the story could go either way and this keeps you hooked. The introduction of Sarah feels a little flat . Her time in rhe overal story seems too short given the ending. This is where the story needed a bit more depth and colour. There was never an arch for her the dip reveal of some of her traits was just not enough for me. I needed more from her to enjoy the ending. I liked the story and enjoyed the ride a solid 4.. thank you net gallery and publisher for my arc

As a nurse I love reading books set in the world of health care. I was looking for a creepy, suspenseful medical thriller, which this book was not. However, that aside, I think that this book will appeal to a vast audience looking for a quick, entertaining thriller, it just wasn't a good fit for me..

This book was absolutely riveting! I was blown away by the number of unexpected plot twists and turns. I couldn't put it down and stayed up late into the night to finish it. The story is cleverly crafted and truly unique, with an ending that completely caught me off guard. The characters are complex and flawed, and the events that unfold are nothing short of tumultuous. Overall, I would give this book a full five stars for its masterful execution as a psychological thriller.

I might be a little bit more than just a little bit biased here, but I have absolutely loved each and every Valerie Keogh book I have read so far. So, my bar was set high already and I had high expectations for this book even before I started reading it. Just reading the blurb was enough to have me hooked – yesss, I want to read this one!
And, the book delivered.
And then, delivered some more.
And now the bar has moved even higher up and I love Valerie Keogh even more.
The book starts slowly and sets the mood. And then it picks up the pace, grabs you, and will not let you go to the very last page.
I am not a fan of using the term “developed character” left and right, but Lissa in this book is one SUPER developed character. You read you get to know her, it has depths, it has crazies, it has it all.
