As Ginny's perfect life as an agony aunt crumbles, she invites 4 heartbroken strangers on a holiday to Italy.
A charming story of love, loss and hope as we find out the stories behind the guests she has chosen via her radio show.
Can the company of strangers, beautiful Italy and a charming traditional hotel help heal these damaged hearts?
A really interesting and heart warming read, with twists and turns along the way.

The Little Italian Hotel by Phaedra Patrick and Narrated by Claire Calverley was a beautiful audio book that will just take you to Italy. This was meant to be a special surprise for her husband Adrian as it was their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. Ginny Splinter was so excited telling and surprising her husband, but when she presents the gift to Adrian he surprises her with his own surprise! and a different one! He wants a divorce!

Ginny Splinter, is an acclaimed radio host and advice expert and prides herself on knowing what’s best for others, But, she never saw that coming. She always thought her marriage to Adrian was perfect! This only happens to other couples. Her world around her falls apart!

Beside herself with heartache, Ginny impulsively invites four heartbroken listeners to join her in Italy instead while live on air. All they needed to so was phone in and she will pick them at random.
The four heartbroken listeners with all different back grounds and heart aches went hiking the hills of Bologna to riding a gondola in Venice etc sharing stories around the dining table of the little Italian hotel, Ginny and her newfound company embark on a vacation of healing.

However, Adrian then starts to rethink their relationship between his wife, Ginny and decide whether to commit to her marriage or start afresh, alone. And an unexpected stranger may hold the key to a very different future….........

This book was beautifully written and a great holiday read. I highly recommend The Little Italian Hotel and the Narrated by Claire Calverley was wonderful and a joy to listen to.

I have developed a recent liking for listening to audiobooks - something I haven’t done in the past. It gives me an opportunity to enjoy my favourite pastime of reading whilst getting on with some of the many jobs that take up time such ad ironing!
I loved this book. It was a prefix stable ending which, as a reader, I was hoping was going to happen. The story is relatable and heartwarming and I enjoyed getting to know all the characters.
Thanks for letting me listen to it. The book comes highly recommended :)

I loved the concept of this book and it was wonderfully written. The ending was a little twee for me but nevertheless enjoyable.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book in exchange for a review.

I was very excited to have the chance to review The Little Italian Hotel. A long-time fan of Phaedra Patrick’s work, I was not disappointed. The story was slightly different from Patrick’s previous, and I enjoyed the gorgeous Italian setting. I did feel that certain aspects of the story came together and resolved a bit too quickly and disappointingly in the end, but overall a good story and the narrator was easy to listen to.

I absolutely adored how the characters are written in this book and what made them really come to life, especially Ginny, was the narrator. She captives each of their individual personalities and conveys the emotions perfectly.
Definitely a narrator I’ll be checking out in the future.

Ginny is the catalyst to the heart achingly beautiful adventure we go on with a group of very different people.
This delightful bunch of strangers are fascinating, unique and come with their own heartache.
We meet Edna, Curtis, Heather and Eric. And along with Ginny, we go on their journeys through pain and loss to acceptance & growth in a tender, heartwarming way.

The setting is stunning as well! From the scenic location to the quaint little hotel owned by the amazing (and adorable), Nico & his teenage daughter, Loretta. I fell in love with everything.
Oh, and I loved that we also learn about Nico & his hidden heartache. A truly magnificent touch.

Ginny is my favourite. Don’t get me wrong, I do love ALL the gorgeous characters, I just felt a connection to Ginny. She is “Splendido”. 🥰

A must read full of fun, laughter, tears and joy.

The Little Italian Hotel is a heartwarming story of love, loss and finding yourself again after a lifetime of pleasing others.
Ginny Splinter is just about to whisk her husband Adrian away for a romantic Italian getaway to celebrate 25 years of marriage when instead, he asks for a divorce. Reeling from the shock and heartbreak, Ginny instead switches her booking from a luxurious all-inclusive hotel to a family run establishment - and offers on her radio show to take 4 other heartbroken strangers with her.

I really enjoyed all the characters in this novel and finding out little by little their stories and what life had thrown at them to make them feel the way they did. I did like the narrator but sometimes found the Italian/Northern accent combination a little grating - but that's probably just me being a bit of a southern snob!

This was the first book of Phaedra Patrick's that I have read and I would certainly look her up again.

Many thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for an advanced release audio copy in exchange for an honest review.

I’m never sure if chick lit is a derogatory term? It always sounds like it. I feel it’s dismissive of the work in some way, anyway, it’s millions of peoples go to genre, it’s really not mine. But sometimes you need a little brain refresher. This definitely done that for me. Ginny Splinter is a bubbly, happy radio agony aunt. I kept picturing her to look like the vixen from the chase. She has a wonderful husband, is approaching her 25th wedding anniversary and her daughter phoebe is getting married. She’s got it all right? Wrong! Because Ginny’s world collapses after a phone in where the caller suggests her life is not all it’s cracked up to be.

From there, Ginny ends up inviting 5 strangers to join her on what should have been her 25th anniversary holiday in Bologna. They are all heartbroken in one way or another, but the love and friendship that develops over the course of the 3 weeks is something really special. It’s warm, funny, relatable and a bit of a wake up call. I loved it.

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins Audio UK for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook in return for an honest review.

This was a very wholesome, feel good book! The characters were all very loveable and I really loved reading about each and every one of them. I did find Ginny a little annoying at times though, but I suppose she was dealing with a lot

A lovely light summer read. I would have like some deeper world building - Italy felt a bit flat. But enjoyable non the less.

3.5⭐️

My first book by this author, who came highly recommended. I had the audiobook read by Claire Calverley. The narrator is ok, but I found the voice for Ginny irritating.

Feel good fiction is a genre that I haven’t read a lot of, I enjoy a palate cleanse.

Ginny is a radio agony aunt, giving advice to strangers. She planned a surprise Italian getaway to celebrate her 25th wedding anniversary, only her husband Adrian has his own surprise, a divorce!
On the spur of the moment she invites four heartbroken listeners to join her Heather, Edna, Curtis, Eric,

Bullet points for The Little Italian Hotel
📕uplifting read
📕sunny summer reading

We get the backstories of each of the characters, even the hotel owner Nico comes with his own problems. It shows the different forms of heartbreak. It’s a light read about second chances.

Eric and Nico were my favourite characters, although they all grew on me by the end, even the grumpy Edna.

I really enjoyed the ending, however I found the book too slow and a bit tame for me. I do have another book by this author so I’ll try that one.

The Little Italian Hotel is a lovely warm story full of humanity and different relationships narrated clearly and fluently. The only thing that spoilt it for me were the awful voices the narrator gave each character, they were cringeworthy with the exception of Edna who sounded like Miriam Margolyes and the voice really suited her.
Overall I think I would have been better served reading the hard copy, sorry.

I’m a real thriller fan but now an again I like to put the thrillers away for a read just like this one. It’s the perfect holiday read where you get to know 5 strangers from all walks of life who have their own personal struggles. I loved all the characters an even more so the fact that they are so mismatched and how they come together. It’s a real feel good listen with loveable characters set in beautiful Italy. Would recommend.

Gosh I absolutely loved this audiobook. It was one of those joyous books that I couldn’t stop listening to.
Ginny Splinter is a radio host who helps people with advice with their lives but one day a woman phones in and asks Ginny how well she knows her own husband. Ginny is puzzled. After all she and her husband have been married a long time and are about to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. As a surprise Ginny has booked her husband a holiday to Italy. Reeling from the shock Ginny decides she still wants to go on the holiday but uses her radio show to ask five strangers to apply to go with her but they must also be heartbroken. I chose this book for some light listening and thought it would be predictable but it was a lovely story with some twists and lots of feel good vibes.

It's a story of love, loss, friendship and the things life throws at us.

The narrator was good but I wasn't keen on the attempts at Italian accented English.

I am glad I listened to it, it was very enjoyable.

I loved this book, it is a perfect summer read.

The narrator is brilliant, loved her voice and her different characters voices. She made the book come alive. She was Lear and paused with every chapter so it very easy to follow.

Ginny is an agony aunt on the radio when she gets a call about her husband. They are going off to Italy to celebrate their 25 year anniversary, but instead Adrien asks for a divorce. Ginny is very confused, can’t get a refund for her holiday so asks 4 strangers to go to another hotel with her. She meets new people, the sun is shining and all is forgotten.

A great book, you will read/listen with a smile on your face.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.

When a relationship expert’s own marriage falls apart, she invites four strangers to Italy for a vacation of healing and second chances in this uplifting new novel from the author of The Messy Lives of Book People .

Ginny Splinter, acclaimed radio host and advice expert, prides herself on knowing what’s best for others. So she’s sure her husband, Adrian, will love the special trip to Italy she’s planned for their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. But when Ginny presents the gift to Adrian, he surprises her with his own very different plan—a divorce.

Beside herself with heartache, Ginny impulsively invites four heartbroken listeners to join her in Italy instead while live on air. From hiking the hills of Bologna to riding a gondola in Venice to sharing stories around the dining table of the little Italian hotel, Ginny and her newfound company embark on a vacation of healing.

However, when Adrian starts to rethink their relationship, Ginny must decide whether to commit to her marriage or start afresh, alone. And an unexpected stranger may hold the key to a very different future… Sunny, tender and brimming with charm, The Little Italian Hotel explores marriage, identity and reclaiming the present moment—even if it means leaving the past behind.

This is a charming tale and I enjoyed watching Ginny grow into herself as the story unfolded- with the help of her newfound friends. The little tastes of Italy sprinkled throughout were also nice touches. Narrator Claire Calverley did a nice job embodying the role of Ginny.
