Allie is dealing with some major issues in her life and Sydney is her escape, when she meets up with Zac who she knew from her training she doesnt know whether he is aware of what happened to her or not.
I liked that the story handled what is quite a gritty topic so well, although whilst I imagine quite true and reflective of someone who has been through it, it meant that the story could be quite halting at times. Overall I enjoyed the story, it opened my eyes to some thoughts around it. I did love the setting, it made me want to go to Cronulla for the beaches.
The book doesn’t shy away from tough issues, from abuse or from the bruises and hurt that they cause. The beautiful light, water and landscape of Australia is clearly described and the sunsets are almost painted for us in the book. An almost uncomplicated romance in the love Allie and Zac show and the way they jump over hurdles.
I would like to thank Netgalley, Mills and Boon and Annie Claydon for the E ARC of this book.
A year in Sydney, Australia working with a hospital exchange programme is just what Allie needs. She has been through a rough time after a traumatic relationship. She is looking forward to a new city, new friends, and a chance to use all her skills as a Paediatrician.
When she gets off the plane, she is met by Zac with whom she was at medical school. As he shows her around the city and where she will be living over her first couple of days, they become friends. As they work together at the hospital, they become closer and Allie finds that she looks forward to time with Zac.
There is one patient in particular that gets to Allie and she knows she can really help her but it means Allie having to share about her past. Zac is really understanding and caring and does all he can to support Allie and help her. Can Allie over come her fears and find more for her life?
I liked the pace of this story; the characters were well written and the situations were well researched and compassionately dealt with.
Would recommend this book.
This was a pleasant story, but it wasn't as engaging as so many of this author's books have been. I liked the characters. I liked the characters, but I didn't see the chemistry between the h/H. Usually, I can read a book in one sitting if I'm really deep into the story - but I actually left this one and came back several times. Sorry, not my cup of tea.
