This was a fun lighthearted book both about the hold friendships have in our formulative years, growing up and a fun take on how small scale magic can be used in every day situations (and have unintended consequences!) I found it entertaining, though it was like a sanitised Americanised version of Her Majesty’s Coven thematically.

Worth a read for something lighthearted but it didn’t set my world on fire.

A light read for those who want to detach for a while.

The story focuses around Sarah, a women who lives a seemingly normal life. She is happily married with two twin teenagers and a good job as a real estate agent. All seems settled for her, that is until she has to attend her college reunion party with her husband and is forced to revisit the haunting night of the Hawthorne fire 20 years later. The cause of the fire remains unknown to all but her and her coven a.k.a ‘juggling club’ who accidentally started the fire whilst trying to cast a spell to bring their desires of the future to light. All this would be fine, except the only person who was seriously injured in the fire happens to be her sister in law and now hot on the heels of uncovering the truth of what really went down is a podcaster who has chosen the mysterious fire as her next subject to cover. When Sarah reunites with her old coven Alicia and Katrina, the force of their magical powers is undeniable as they try to undo the accident of the past but in turn amplify their original wishes. Can they fix the past or will the power drive them apart?

This was not necessarily lighthearted but nothing too deep. I loved the character Katy Purry who was Sarah’s cat. When it started speaking it did make me laugh out loud at times.
Personally I didn’t connect with the characters much, I would have liked more input from Alicia and Katrina, to learn more about them and more about how they were in college. The story didn’t hold my attention too well and it felt like it wrapped up really quickly at the end. But even though it wasn’t my cup of tea, I think a lot of people out there would enjoy this tale of powerful friendships and mystery.

An easy contemporary read, something to pick up if you want a lighthearted-ish story and love anything witchy!

Trying to access witchcraft ends up with a fire. The three instigators scatter from the college and don't meet up again. The wishes they put out to the universe come true. The magic is still there but turned down.
Meeting again at the 20 year college reunion sets a chain of events in motion. Good versus evil, lots of moral dilemmas.
An enjoyable light hearted read.
I would look for more books by Maureen

This was an okay read, but it frustrated me and I’m not quite sure why. I don’t think it was bad , it just wasn’t for me.
However I loved Katy Purry, she was probably my favourite character in the whole thing.

A spellbinding story about sisterhood and magic, Hex Education was full of humour and heart. It’s magical, funny and full of secret and mystery.

Our coven of witches were undeniably charming, each distinct with such different lives now but sharing a kindred spirit that was made for freedom, power and divine femininity. I adored the connections between the characters, the love and sisterhood that bonded them together. And of course, no story is complete without a fabulous cat to finish the cast off — especially one that is practically “an opinion feline furniture pouf”

The storytelling was very friendly and casual, with first-person narration that let us occasionally follow Sarah’s trains of thoughts and get little glimpses into the normal life they’d been trying to live for the last 20 years, and it was brilliant for creating a realistic setting, and giving them their own unique brand of very relatable witty humour that every witch can find some connection in. Things start to slowly unravel, little moments of madness amongst the everyday, and as we move on with a casual but steady pace we watch on as things spiral into absolute glorious chaos.

Think the mystery and allure of Practical Magic, with the sisterhood of Charmed and the quirky humour of Sabrina mixed in with the modern world of podcasts and smartphones. This was absolutely bewitching and I hope this new wave of modern witch fiction never ends.

Book Review 📚
Hex Education by Maureen Kilmer - 4/5 ⭐

2 words - Katy Purry! Yes in the magically witchy book our MC has a familiar in the form of a cat called Katy Purry. If that isn't selling you then honestly just move on 😂

In all seriousness, Hex Education was magically crafted! Kilmer has done a fantastic job in creating such a beautifully written book. There's laughter, there's sadness, there's romance. You can't ask for much more really. The writing flows perfectly, the characters are loveable and the plot was brilliant.

Yes ok, it's your typical rom-com kinda book but there's something about it that makes you not want to put it down. It's not predictable but yet it is? I somehow put 2+2 together and made 7, most of the time. But yet I kept reading because I needed to know how it ended, whilst already knowing how it's ending.

If you don't fall in love with the characters (more specifically the familiar) then, well, your loss is my gain? 👀

Thank you to NetGalley and Headline for allowing me to read this ARC - this is an HONEST review from my own personal opinion.

Very enjoyable reading! Something interesting happening on every page, I loved the feel of Bewitched about some of the antics that Sarah got up to! The characters were a little cliched in parts, Katrina in particular, but that didn't spoil my enjoyment of this light-hearted romp. I guessed the villain about half way through, but I didn't guess the lovely ending. I hope there will be a sequel with new found confidence in their skills. Recommended.
