The scandle at the beginging!! LEE WAS the worst !!Was amazing Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing this eARC.
First thought: Its a very cute story, but very niche in my opinion. If you love books set in England and the world of construction this one is 100% you!
Ella is a project manger who made a bad choice in guys. Her ex cost her the job she loved, the place she called home and 5 years of her life. Now having to start over she finds herself in a new city and working on a construction site as a project manger. Things are definitely not going to plan for her!
Meet Noah a handsome construction site manger who is now Ella’s new working mate. He is a good guy with no baggage who spends his spare time flipping houses. He instantly takes her under his wing and helps her learn the ropes.
This novel is told in only from Ella’s perspective I think it would have been awesome to have the dual and get inside Noah’s head as well. This book has a lot of construction talk in it and I felt I had to learn a new vocabulary at times to keep up. Also this book is based in England which I love. But a heads up there are a lot of new words and slang and you may need to use google a few times.
Overall this book is well written it has fun humor, great character development and is a quick read. For me it was little lacking in the romance it’s very G rated with a slow burn that’s wrapped very quickly!

I have to say that I really loved this rather short story. Ella and Noah were just the cutest people you could have. I really loved their dynamic. But ohh... I hated Lee. And I was soo happy when he was out of the picture.
This book gave me all the feels. It was such a sweet and fun read. Ella is strong and works hard and Noah is the sweetest construction worker you will ever meet.
Thank you Phoebe MacLeod, NetGalley, and Boldwood Books for this ARC. ~I was given this book and made no commitments to leave my opinions, favorable or otherwise~
absolutely loved this book!! It also is a reasonable size so great if you are looking for a quick read to get you out of a reading slump, firstly I want to say I couldn’t stand Lee!
It was great to see Ella recover from her situation at Orchestra and omg Noah…. He’s a lovely gentleman that helps Ella settle into her new job and learn the ropes.
The plot of the book is very good, the fact that Ella is working on a building site which even now is not seen as socially acceptable for woman and I think it was portrayed perfectly. The blossoming of Ella’s and Noah’s romance had me wanting to find out what the next chapter holds.
Wow, talk about someone's life being taken out by the selfish actions of another in one single move. That's exactly what happens to Ella. Though I was just waiting for the axe to drop I have to admit that I didn't exactly expect it to happen the way it did. So massive kudos for swinging it that way, unexpected, harsh and eye-opening.
When Ella's world implodes and she has to roll with it, understandably she's more than a little shell-shocked, but I admired her for not only standing her ground, but for doing what she should have done right from the beginning. Lee was just a jerk and all the way through the book I wanted him to get what was coming to him.
I enjoyed the story, loved the relationships that Ella built in her new life (though I am confused, is he Noah or Michael?) and liked that it wasn't based in a world I am familiar with. Sure, everyone has walked by a building site a time or two (when I was growing up my school was right next to a building site that was active the entire 7 years I was at the school - comprehensive and sixth form), but I loved how Ella proved herself capable and eventually won the respect of the men who were initially cautious around her.
The love story was almost secondary to Ella's growth and building of self-awareness (both things that she struggled with). I liked that she learned to let go, and adjusted so well to her life.
Overall, not what I was expecting, and I liked it because of that.
Thank you NetGalley for gifting me a copy of this book.
First, it was the title that made me interested. I loved the play on words. After I read the blurb, and I thought why not.
Then I started reading it. While the first part of the book was frustrating because of Lee, I still enjoyed myself and wanted to know more. Then the second part hit and it was GOLD. I absolutely loved reading about her on the site, learning how everything works but also asserting herself in her new position.
I would absolutely recommend it, 5 stars from me!
This was funny, sweet, heartwarming, and super quick to read. I absolutely loved our cast of characters and their dynamic and I loved the romance! The sparks were flying!
"Love at First Site" by Phoebe MacLeod introduces readers to Ella, whose seemingly perfect life is about to crumble. Working in a job where dating colleagues is strictly forbidden, Ella and her boyfriend, Lee, must hide their relationship. However, when Lee joins a competitor and their secret is exposed, Ella loses her job and finds herself questioning her relationship with a self-centred partner.
As Ella faces financial difficulties and an uncertain future, a job offer in a completely unfamiliar industry presents itself. Determined to prove herself, she embarks on a new career in construction with the help of foreman Noah. "Love at First Site" follows Ella's journey of self-discovery, resilience, and the possibility of building a better life for herself.
Phoebe MacLeod crafts a story that combines romance, personal growth, and the pursuit of dreams. Ella's transformation and the guidance of Noah offer a glimmer of hope in the face of adversity. This uplifting tale explores the power of starting anew and finding unexpected love along the way.
Very cute and quick read. I loved seeing Ella rebuild (pun intended) herself. And Noah? He's a sweet gentleman who I would help paint his banisters any day (innuendo also intended).
But Lee. Ugh, what a terrible human being. I think this would have been a five star read if less time had been given to him and more time showing Ella and Noah's relationship grow. Because their friendship turned love was gentle and so refreshing to read.
Love at First Site by Phoebe MacLeod is a low stakes story about a woman learning what she's worth.
Ella thrives on organisation making her the perfect project manager. However she and colleague Lee have been breaking the company's no relationships rule and have been a live-in couple for the past five years. This ruse implodes when Lee sabotages an important contract bid and jumps ship to a rival firm, leaving Ella without a job and her relationship in tatters.
With no choice but to accept a job in Kent as a project manager for a construction company, she battles low level sexism, toxic boss and the 'caravan of shit', all while fighting an attraction to site foreman Noah. Ella has the scorch marks from being involved with a colleague and doesn't want to be back where she started if it all goes pear shaped.
Ella is clever, organised and resourceful. She has to earn the respect of the men who don't like 'birds' on construction sites. Noah is the antithesis of selfish, narcissistic Lee. He's supportive, helps her learn the industry and treats her with respect.
Phoebe MacLeod writes another engaging story that hits the spot when you just want to escape the world for a while and not feel like you've been put through the wringer.
However, I think the emotional beats didn't quite land as hard as I believe had the potential to do so. There was conflict set up, but it resolved itself quickly. The plot involving Ella's rebellion to spite the toxic boss is quashed quickly and the wider mystery was solved off book. A real shame as that plot had potential to be part of Ella's character growth arc (plus showing more comradery with her sexist colleagues), but instead it landed flat.
Overall this is a solid, fun book with engaging characters you can breeze right through. Add this to your holiday TBR pile.
Thanks to Boldwood and NetGalley for the ARC.
Overall good book with a cute concept that isn't overdone. The beginning was a little slow and Lee was maybe too dis-likeable. The last third of the book was great with lots of cute romance. Love the cover!
The author does another amazing job bringing a great read while introducing her well developed and engaging characters. The storyline flowed easily from beginning to the end.
This book is about Ella, who has garbage boyfriend (Lee), but she never realize it before until her position in company is threatened. Lee and Ella worked in the same company. However, because of his action towards their company, Ella is being suspended for uncertain time.
Since Ella is trapped in uncertainty, she started to apply other jobs to secure her financial, until she got accepted in construction company. There, she met Noah, who then being her wing-man.
The plot is predictable. It's a light read and bittersweet story, but has happy ending. I love the author shows reader about "working in site". Ella is a great example of strong and independent woman, who's not drag on in her distress, instead she's focus in solution.
However, this novel is in rush. The conflict resolution is not dug deeper which made me questioned about few things. For instance, I expect what happened towards Lee is explained further.
Thank you Netgalley and Boldwood Publishing for the ARC!
Ella is a talented and stubborn project planner who gets into a bit of a bind, courtesy of her boyfriend Lee and naturally, she isn’t happy about it and is more than a little angry at him. It’s clear to see how toxic and self-involved Lee’s character is and Ella can definitely do better. Too wrapped up in his own world, Lee barely manages to listen to Ella or take any responsibility for the mess he has caused and she starts to see him in a whole new light. Out of a job, and struggling to find anything in a field she’d be comfortable with, Ella is persuaded to apply for a job as a project manager in construction and is surprised to be offered the role but backed into a corner, she’s got to give it a go and try and fake her way until she gains enough understanding of the industry to truly get by. I enjoyed the way Ella’s battle as a woman, and as the only woman, on the site was presented, both with the construction workers and the people coming into the site for deliveries and such. It’s safe to say not everyone was welcoming or respectful but they soon warm up to her and she impresses them with her project planning know-how and creative problem solving. Noah, the site foreman, takes her under his wing from the beginning and also helps her to settle into the area. It was good fun watching them get to know each other over the weekends but their relationship felt incredibly rushed and perhaps if there was less time given to Lee at the beginning of the book there would have been more chance to develop their romance and really sell their romance but they were a sweet enough couple and Noah was all in, despite the unexpected obstacles towards the end.
I received a free copy of this book. All views are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book.
Ella thought she had it all, a great job, great boyfriend, luxury living space, but that also unravels ver quickly and Ella is put into a tough position in a job she never saw herself in, where she proves herself to many and meets a new love that shows her she deserved more than her past relationship offered her.
I found this read to be light, but predictable. Lee was not a great character, and the way he treated Ella was gross, I did, however, enjoy how independent she was and took charge of the obstacles that came her way.
Thank you Boldhouse Books, Phoebe Macleod, and NetGalley for this ARC copy of Love at First Site, in exchange for my honest opinion and review.
As a carpenter’s wife - I was extremely intrigued by the storyline of this one!
First off - Lee is garbage!! I can’t believe what he puts Ella through. The saying goes “everything happens for a reason” and that rang true throughout the story.
Noah was a dream. The development between him and Ella was so fun and I couldn’t get enough.
This story was fairly predictable which is bittersweet. But, if you are looking for an easy, light read that will end in a HEA - this one is for you!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Love at First Site is a fairly predictable easy read.
This was everything a good romance novel should be. A smart, competent main character, who is screwed over by her ex in a realistic and also incredibly infuriating way, who suffers the consequences but then picks herself up and moves on, asserts herself at her new job, and finds a better relationship. The characters were well-balanced and never over the top, there were no weird plot holes or conveniences, and the relationship between Ella and Noah was really well-developed. This was such a fun read.
Very excited to read this title! I live all Boldwood has to offer and they are some of the most popular titles at our location. Very excited for this one! Who wouldn’t love to read about a chick that kicks major butt when life unexpectedly throws her a curveball and she begins work on a construction site! Will be sharing more soon!
