The business partner storyline was not necessary. Would have preferred more story related to the three sisters…………………

Businessman Lewis Stone has a few issues with his business partner, but the firm’s Christmas party isn’t the place to thrash them out. Desperate to escape and try to enjoy the festive break, he jumps into his car and sets off for home. Having turned down the offer of a night of passion from a woman at the party, he suddenly changes his mind. But before he can head back, someone steps out in front of his car…

This is the tenth book I’ve read by this author, so I thought I knew what to expect. This one isn’t part of one of Owen Mullen’s many successful crime series (such as the Glass Family series, which I love), but a brand-new thriller. We get into the action early on as the character of Lewis finds himself in a whole heap of trouble when he quite literally collides with a member of the Kennedy family. While I enjoyed the book, the characters didn’t pull me into their stories as much as I’ve come to expect with this author and to be honest, I found it hard to like any of them. Also, the plot felt like it slowed down after the initial excitement and took a while to get going again. Nevertheless, it’s an entertaining read, if not one of his best.

An entertaining and thought provoking read.

Thank you to netgalley for providing me the opportunity to read this book. this book is a slow burn. It is a multiple POV story. The characters were well thought out and the story ended with a great twist. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good thriller.

I do adore this author's books and this one is an absolutely cracking read. A night out leaves one sister dead and the aftermath of this becomes the story. The story is told from the perspective of the characters so I was able to get a viewpoint from the remaining two sisters, the driver of the car and what he was dealing with and also some other characters. This book was engaging from start to finish and it did not end anywhere near where I thought it would!

The sisters, Molly, Alex and Sam. The driver of the car that hit and killed one of the sisters is Lewis Stone. This story is one that was woven in and out of the lives of these characters and also a husband, business partner and solicitor. As with this author's previous books, nothing is straightforward forward and to try to explain the story... well I would make it confusing, which it definitely was not as I read it.

The story has highs and lows, of grieving and also of revenge. Lives have changed as you would expect and the strain of events shows on certain people. For some, it is a case of not being able to move forward for another feeling guilty, for some a way to change and try to come to terms with things and all in all how one incident altered people's futures.

Accidents are not nice and while the author does mention the accident it is the aftermath that he focuses on. Getting to know the characters and understanding their lives and what drives them to do the things they do becomes a story. Understanding the dynamics between people is another part of the story. Then there is the psychological side of the story and that is where the author for me really worked his magic. Not necessarily obvious but there are mentions of how people react to heartbreaking changes.

The story took a route I really did not expect, there were hints along the way but the finale! Well! That was something else. The shocks, twists and surprises fell one after another and they fitted so well within the story. It is not until you got to these revelations that you suddenly changed your view about a person or remembered something mentioned earlier in the book. It makes for fabulous reading!

In case you had not worked it out, I adored this book a huge amount. If you are a fan of thrillers that are mysterious have a domestic noir to them, are compelling and full of suspense then this is one you should pick up. Yeah, I would definitely recommend it.

Great thriller, that just keeps going to the very end. These sisters go through a lot losing one to a tragic wreck and then trying to continue life after. Though that’s really where the story begins. One sister is losing her marriage while the other is just losing it and has her mind set on revenge. There are some places in the book that a little more detail of the aftermath of an event would have been better and the name on each chapter or when we change a character would be of been good. However, it didn’t ruin the book and I still very much enjoyed it.

I really struggled to get into this book as the writing was not engaging to capture my attention. The twist in the final chapter was really good but I wish it had happened earlier on and we saw the events of its impact take place.

I enjoyed the premise of this book and enjoyed the story mostly however I found the end to be rushed and a bit meh. However I would still reccomend.

I am new to OJ Mullen as an author but boy what a ride that was I totally loved this. I don't think I will forget the ending for a very long time. The multiple POVs were so enthralling. If you like dark, dramatic thrillers then this is just perfect

Going into this, I didn't know much about the author. Some of the other reviews I saw were a mixed bag. For me, that's about right; this was a real mixed bag of good and bad. Three Sisters by O.J. Mullen is a psychological thriller that, while the Christmas setting adds a nice touch, has a plot and characters that are all a bit average. Some unexpected twists kept me going, but it didn't fully grip me. If you're into thrillers, you might enjoy it, but it didn't leave a lasting impression on me.
Thanks to the publisher, author and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and provide an honest review

This is a jam-packed thriller with twists and turns aplenty to keep you hooked from the beginning.

There are several subplots to the narrative, each exposing the different characters and their psyches in great detail which serve to either endear you to them or begin to loathe them.

Mainly told from the point of view of Alex, the initial chapters can be a little confusing as it’s not always obvious who is narrating, but once this is overcome, the plot whips along at fast pace.

As the storyline progresses, I found myself rooting for Lewis, who seemed to be the only character who was able to self-reflect with any clarity. All of the others began to show their inherent selfishness or skewed thinking and I thought this was an extremely clever tactic from the author.

The short chapters entice you to keep turning the pages to read just one more until you reach the shocking climax.

A hugely enjoyable read. I look forward to discovering more from the author.

With thanks to the author, Rachel at Random Resources and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to participate in the tour.

This is the first book that I have read by this author but after reading this one I will definitely be reading more of his books. From the start it grabbed me by it's hook and wouldn't let go until the mind blowing conclusion. It's about three sisters Molly, Alex and Sam and after a chance encounter with Lewis who is leaving his work Christmas Party the three sisters lives will never be the same. I have never read a physcological thriller like this and I loved the unique writing style which knows how to reel you in and hold on with twists that will make your jaw drop. I liked the characters but I feel like I could most relate too Alex. The story is heartbreaking but at the same time it plays with your mind. Three Sisters is a talently written physcological thriller that I hugely recommend.

This book has so much potential. 3 sisters are going out on their annual holiday outing when it ends with a tragic accident. One sister ends up on life support and the other two have to pull the plug, and go on with their lives. One sister does and the other is stuck on the accident part of the accident.

The plot is good. It makes sense. The twist at the end is great. Everything else, is not.

There are different narrators, random that don't need to be there, added in at random times. There is a bunch of fluff around the one sister that I can see should make sense, but it didn't to me.

In my opinion, had the plot been centered around the sisters and the man from the accident, the book would've been better. The extra characters and viewpoints muddled everything. Focusing more on one of the sisters marriages and the demise of it vs the other sister and her obsession with the accident, the plot would've been a lot stronger than it was.

Again, at the very end of the book there is a twist that makes a lot of sense and knocks the notch up slightly, but it's also too late. The book is over. There's no more.

Today is my spot on the #blogtour for Three Sisters, a psychological thriller about the ripple effects of a single tragic event one Christmas.

Usually I enjoy stories told from multiple POV, however the sheer number of different characters and their individual storylines made this a little tricky to keep track of. I feel it could perhaps have benefitted from chapter headings just to make it a little clearer.

I found it to be a very very slow burn read; for me it only really got exciting in the final quarter as the storylines came to a head and secrets were revealed/action was actually taken. I did guess the twist early on but I still really liked how it was revealed at the end; it was dark and twisted, definitely a bit of me 🤣

Overall it didn’t quite hit the spot for me, I prefer to be constantly on the edge of my seat and thrown off track with twists and surprises. But if you prefer slow burns with a big reveal this one is for you ❤️

Thank you @rachelsrandomresources and @bookandtonic for my copy of Three Sisters to review 🙏🏻

Warning spoilers ahead!!

It’s a normal night out for three sisters, Molly, Alex and Sam until their happiness is shattered!

Their lives are about to collide with Lewis Stone.. wrong place wrong time.

Molly is struck by Lewis’s car, but was it an accident? It seems so but Sam won’t hear it. Something snaps inside her and her life will never be the same.. she’s hell bent on seeing Lewis pay.

Alex on the other hand is able to cope better but that’s only because she has her husbands shoulder to lean on.. but she has her own issues.. the marriage isn’t as happy as it seems.

Lewis is broken after the events of the crash which causes issues at work with his partner. As his world implodes he tries to hide from it by simply ignoring life.. but that’s not going to work for long.

I’ll try to keep the rest of the review spoiler free but lets just say it’s a cracking tale, there’s twists and turns and some secrets come out that really shock you.

The development of the plot and characters was spot on, nothing felt out of place and the pace perfectly matched. The changing perspectives really made the plot pop. Hooked is an understatement.

Mullen certainly knows his craft and effortlessly gives you intriguing characters and stories.. I never tire of his work.

I can’t really tell you how good this book is without giving more spoilers, but rest assured you won’t be disappointed!

A resounding 5* hit.. Mullen never puts a foot wrong!

Told through multiple points of view, this one was hard to keep up with.

Part of this could be due to the fact that the different points of view sometimes jumped in the middle of a chapter without warning, making it hard at times to figure out who was telling the story. I also found it more than a little weird that out of all the different POVS, only one of them (Alex's) was told in the first person, with the rest being told in the third person.

Or it could have more to do with the fact that I could not connect with ANY of the characters as, despite their personal issues, they all seemed very one-dimensional to me. I needed more depth to them, which despite their numerous struggles, I never felt was reached. Although, to be fair, part of me wonders if I would have had an easier time connecting with them if there hadn't been so many in the first place.

Another issue I had was with the overall story. I felt that the author made it pretty easy for the reader to figure out not only how the story was going as it progressed but also what it was all leading up to. That, too, took a lot of the suspense out of the story, in my opinion.

All things considered, while this one was definitely not for me, I feel there are others out there who will enjoy it.

DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.

Well call me biased, I wont mind, because I am. Owen just gets better with every book. He writes great series and great standalones. His books are gritty and will grip the reader and keep them turning the pages furiously. He has a great back catalogue to enjoy. But enough of that we are here to talk about THREE SISTERS.

This is book about, as the title suggests, three sisters and the man who comes crashing into their lives.

This a book primarily about grief and how it affects people. One thing most people who are grieving will tell you is, that is grief is personal to them. But what they will not tell you is it will make you self centred and indeed can make you very uncaring about others.

It sets the sisters against each other. One accusing the other of not grieving in the proper way.

This is a book about grief, victims, lies and secrets that move around on the shifting sands of fate. A story on a large scale that the author handles with aplomb and you will enjoy this book immensely from the scope of the tale and the quality of the writing.

Highly recommended and if it crosses your radar do yourself a favour and pick up a copy.

Three Sisters is the story of how one incident can affect 3 sisters, and how the ripple affect of our actions can have dire consequences. I really wanted to love this book and it started out masterfully. Grabbing the attention of the reader right away, you're tossed into the story with a major incident.
After that, I really struggled. The multiple POV got very confusing, with short chapters jumping from one character to the next without no title, so sometime it would take a few paragraphs before I could figure out who it was. There were several of the character stories that I felt could have been shortened or even left out all together, as they really didn't have much to offer the reader, and some that just kept repeating themselves. I found myself skimming through the last half of this book, mainly because I had already figured out what happened, but wanted to see if there was anything else in there.
Overall it was well written - just not a gripping thriller. Might be more suited for someone just starting out within the thriller genre.

Alex Kennedy and her younger twin sisters Molly and Sam are out on the town for their Christmas traditional night out, just the three of them. Lewis Stone, founder and co-owner of Stone Free, is begrudgingly showing his face at the works Christmas party, but makes his excuses as soon as he can. The events that follow leave the Kennedy family devastated and Stone wishing he'd never left the house that fateful night.

Three Sisters is the latest thriller by Mullen, this one being slightly different to his previous work as it's a standalone rather than part of a series. It's a well crafted tale set in Scotland about family, relationships, love, loss and revenge told in three parts, mainly in third person narrative but also from Alex's point of view. There are some great characters in this story and I had sympathy for Lewis and the sisters in equal measures, but I didn't particularly like Damian, who I felt was very self centred. This is a compelling and gritty read with some great twists, especially the final one which I have to say I did guess quite early on, though this didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book. Another great read by this author.

I'd like to thank Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the approval, I will post my review on Amazon and Goodreads.

Glasgow

The Kennedy sisters have gotten together for Christmas. Molly and Sam are twins and Alex is a widow. It’s a very cold and icy night as the three women leave a pub to head home. Just as Molly steps too close to the edge of the sidewalk, she slips on the ice and falls into the street in front of a car driven by Lewis Stone. Slamming on brakes to avoid her, his car skids on the ice and he ends up running over her. An accident that lands the critically injured Molly in the hospital on life support. When the doctors say there is no life in her, they turn off her life support. Sam accepts it as an accident but Alex is determined to blame Lewis.

Lewis is partners in a clothing firm. Since the accident, Lewis has been falling apart and needs time away from the office. This just angers his partner increasing tensions between them.

Sam’s marriage to Colin is breaking down and she just can’t accept it. And Alex just cannot let go of her hatred for Lewis. How are they going to heal?

I was impressed with how well this male author was able to get into the heads of his female characters so well. Very well done. A gritty, sad, and cold weather book that made me shiver. I felt like the book just wouldn’t get to the end at times, so it could have been shortened. But, then we wouldn’t see the tensions build among the different characters. The twist at the end really surprised me and that is the reason I feel this book deserves 4 stars. Enjoy.
