A captivating story that you get drawn into completely. The Lives of four people are left in tatters after a devastating event 6 days before Christmas. Two of the four end up on a path of self destruction as they spiral slowly down a black hole. One seeking revenge, in their mind, justice and one trying to come to to terms with what happened and how they will ever come out the other side.
Three Sisters in an expertly crafted thriller full of tension that holds your attention throughout. Unwise decisions threaten to push everyone over the edge and tragedy for these people just seems to happen one after the other.
OJ Mullen has created brilliant characters that you become invested in very quickly. I could see the good and bad in all of them and I definitely wanted to shout “NO don’t do that!” on several occasions. A writer who can conjure these strong feelings in their readers is a damn fine writer in my opinion.
An absolute must for Psychological thriller lovers who enjoy a proper plot that takes you with it all the way to the catastrophic end.
Molly, Alex and Sam Kennedy have a Christmas tradition of a night out just the three of them. While Lewis Stone doesn’t want to attend the Christmas party as one of the bosses he must at least put in an appearance.
Seems like a rather boring start to this book. However it is anything but that. That chance encounter will leave the sisters reeling with Molly fighting for her life, Sam trying to save her broken marriage, and Alex determined to get revenge.
The book is well written and with all of the little clues I was able to figure out the end. My biggest issue was the POV being from so many different people. I am used to reading multiple points of views but I admit I got a little confused once or twice. After reading a little bit Iwas able to pick up whose POV it was. A heading with their name would have been helpful.
That being said, I did enjoy the book. As I said, it is well written and you will find yourself getting lost in it quickly. I did find I liked one sister better than the others but that happens when characters are written well.
Owen Mullen creates distinctive characters with each of the sisters having a relatable personality. Inevitably there are natural family tensions between the twins and their elder sister: the natural dynamics assumed by the eldest as leader is one.
Mullen also makes Lewis Stone a sympathetic character, and he could so easily have been drawn as the archetypal villain.
The pace is good and kept me engaged and wanting more.
I was blown away by the outcome. I tend to guess quite accurately the twist of most novels like this, but I honestly didn't see this one coming. Well done to Mullen for pulling off this rare coup.
Three Sisters, by O. J. Mullen
A fasted paced and gripping story that drew me in from the start and held me right up to the blinder of a twist at the end - brilliant 👏🏻
Told mainly from the POV of Alex, the elder Kennedy sister to twins Molly and Sam. When one her sisters dies in a road accident, Alex is hell bent on revenge and becomes obsessed with the driver of the car, Lewis. In the meantime, Lewis is already being destroyed by his own guilt.
The characters were well developed and I was really torn between who I was rooting for - I felt empathy for both Alex and Lewis and could feel their agony.
5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, O. J. Mullen and Boldwood for an ARC in return for an honest review.
This is very much a slow burn, with multiple POV as well as a mixture of first and third person. At times it was a little confusing, because of this. There is a lot going on, with dealing with the emotions of grief and anger to regret. The ending wad also quite shocking
I felt it was more of a character study than a thriller. Told in multiple POVs you get to really knows and feel for the sisters but the thriller aspects left me a little flat. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my ARC
3.5 stars rounded up.
The Kennedy sisters, Molly, Alex and Sam, have a Christmas tradition - a night out, just the three of them, sisters together. Lewis Stone can't face the works Christmas party, but he's one of the bosses, he has to put in an appearance. He leaves as soon as he can politely get away, ready for the holidays to begin. When Lewis Stone meets the Kennedy sisters, a train of events begins that engulfs them all. One sister id fighting for her life. One sister is fighting for her marriage. And one sister is hellbent on revenge.
The pace is quite slow but it's worth sticking with the book. The story is told from multiple points of view. It was a bit confusing on whose perspective the story was being told from. Maybe a header of who it was at the beginning of the chapter might have helped. The author sis a good job describing the thoughts and emotions the characters went through after tragedy struck. The last couple of chapters were the best and the ending was a bit of a shocker.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #OJMullen for my ARC of #ThreeSisters in exchange for an honest review.

One chance meeting. A night that changes everything.
The Kennedy sisters, Molly, Alex, and Sam, have a Christmas tradition – a night out, just the three of them, sisters together.
Lewis Stone can’t face the work Christmas party, but as he’s one of the bosses, he has to put in an appearance. He leaves as soon as he can politely get away, ready for the holidays to begin. When Lewis Stone meets the Kennedy sisters, a train of events begins that engulfs them all.
One sister is left fighting for her life.
One sister is left fighting for her marriage.
And one sister is hellbent on revenge…
I like books in this genre as my bookclub is currently on a literature-snob bent and sometimes you just want to read a book and try to enjoy it, right?? (more on that later….) I have a sister…no, my parents have another daughter…so I don’t know how it feels to give a crap about a sibling, so this book was kind of delicious as they go through a night from hell. You might find yourself rooting for one sister over another, but that is okay … I certainly did without guilt!
Decidedly a beach book, this is a so-so book to read (you might like it more than I did) … take it to the beach. Take it to the park. Take it to your bedroom and sit in front of a very noisy a/c. It was MOTR for me but you might like it more than I did. There was nothing “wrong” with it… it just wasn’t my cuppa. #shortbutsweetreviews
From the very start, the plot of this book was utterly addictive, immediately immersing me and keeping me glued to the pages. As a fan of this genre, Mullen's interpretation didn't let me down, delivering a captivating and thrilling experience. However, I would like to point out that "Three Sisters" takes a very gradual approach, which some may find slow. Personally, I would have preferred more focus on the aftermath of the twist rather than the extensive buildup leading to it. Condensing the first part of the book to reach the twist around the halfway point could have made it a more gripping page-turner.
As I mentioned in other reviews, the multiple POV writing style is not the one I prefer when reading a thriller or mystery, It could be a personal preference, but I find it distracting from the plot. With 5-6 different voices in the story, it became quite challenging to keep track of them all. Also, not knowing who we are following really pulled me out of the story. A simple header with the character's name at the beginning of each chapter would have immensely improved the readability and comprehension of the book. This is why I will subtract one start from my review.
Another problem I have with this type of book is the ending. It usually is rushed, and this book was no exception. The twist at the end was undoubtedly well-executed, but it left the story feeling somewhat abruptly concluded. Just when things became truly engaging, the narrative seemed to come to an end, leaving readers longing for more. This is super disappointing to me, and I believe, to any reader. The ending left much to be desired, especially after investing time in some aspects of the story that may have felt like unnecessary filler.

I knew this was the book for me.
Three sisters was a very captivating read that held me gripped from the beginning.
I loved that every time I thought I was on the right path, there was a twist taking me completely in the opposite direction.
I will definitely be looking out for this authors next book.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to boldwood books and netgalley for this arc. What a fantastic read . This book has it all, twists,, turns, lies, deceit, betrayal. The author doesnt shy away from the sensitive subject matter around suicide 3 sisters, all very different, twins. One sister is hiding something, what is it? To be honest i never saw the end coming, i was gobsmacked. Excellent read, had me gripped. Highley recommend
Summary:
The Kennedy sisters, Molly, Alex, and Sam, have a Christmas tradition. Each year they go out, just the three of them. But this year, it’s icy and when Molly slips in front of Lewis Stone’s vehicle, tragedy ensues.
Molly’s injuries left her in a coma with no hope of regaining consciousness. When siblings make the impossible decision to take Molly off life support, the lives are sent into a tailspin.
Alex wants nothing more than to avenge the death of her sister, and she blames Lewis Stone. Meanwhile, Sam’s marriage is falling apart and Alex is too consumed to see her sister’s struggle.
But, the sisters aren’t the only ones struggling, Lewis Stone, although he walked away physically unscathed, is struggling mentally with the events of that night. Lewis is an entrepreneur successfully running a company, Stone Free, with his long-time friend Damian Morton. There are important deals in the works and yet, Lewis can’t shake the haunting memories of hitting Molly with his car.
In the end, no one will be the same.
Review:
Three Sisters is a VERY slow burn. In my opinion, I would rather have had more follow up after the twist rather than most of the information leading up to it. If the first 90% of the book could’ve been condensed to a point where the twist occurred maybe 50% of the way through, I think it would have made for more of a page turner.
Additionally, multiple POVs can be well done, but they are not in this book. Each chapter just blindly jumps into a different character’s narrative without any indication of whose voice we are hearing. By the time the context told me who was speaking, I needed to go back and re-read to get myself into that character’s mindset. It may not have been as jarring if there were fewer perspectives to guess, but there are easily 5-6 different voices in this story. Even just a header with the name of the character whose perspective we have entered would go a long way in making this book easier to read and comprehend.
The twist at the end was great but fell flat when the story seemed to end abruptly. For me, the ending was where it had just gotten good so I was hoping for more. Just left more to be desired after having wasted time on fluff throughout.
(Thank you to O.J. Mullen, Boldwood Books, and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be published July 26, 2023.)
Thank you NetGalley for the advance reader copy of Three Sisters. This book just did not grab my interest from the start and was difficult. I could not continue with it and did not finish.
I felt this novel should have been called the Two Sisters and the Driver as the third sister, whilst being central to how the novel unfolds, we find out little about her, Molly. Or not as much as we do about the other two Sam and Alex.
Molly is killed in a RTA on the way home from a Christmas night out with her two sisters. What unfolds are the stages of grief: disbelief, guilt, anger and acceptance. And the story follows the two remaining sisters, and the person behind the wheel of the car, Lewis.
Both stories converge with one sister, Sam, trying to get on with her life and saving her marriage, and the other Alex being hell bent on revenge.
All of whom colide with a shocking consequences. Another one that I never saw coming. And even as I am typing this I really felt sorry for Lewis who really didn't deserve it.
Be prepared for a rollercoaster of a novel that will end where you least expect it.
This novel features multiple points of view and an array of background characters. After an unfortunate accident, one sister is seeking revenge, one sister is trying to survive and the other sister... The novel was entertaining but had a lot of filler at points and about 1/3 of the way through, I felt it slow down. The ending made up for the slow middle and I found it very satisfying how the novel was completed.
This book kept me guessing right up until the end and what an ending! The Kennedy sisters are out in Glasgow for the evening and Lewis Stone is driving home after an eventful business event when tragedy strikes. This had twists and turns and was written from different POVs. I really liked how it flowed and how just when I thought I’d worked out what was going to happen next I was often proved wrong. The characters were believable, although I didn’t like all of them! Damien irritated me and I couldn’t decide how I felt about Alex Kennedy. A great physiological thriller that starts slowly but then gradually picks up pace and I found myself racing to the end. Thanks to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the ARC
This book was a roller coaster ride of emotions for every character involved. It was interesting to view each character’s viewpoint to the events taking place. It is amazing how people can experience such different perspectives in the same circumstances. The twist at the end was quite a surprise. Very well written!
Thank you to NetGalley and O J Mullen for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my review.
This was a quick easy read which told the story of 3 sisters and an event that happened which changed their lives! I actually read this on a flight, but it had me hooked and didn’t want to put down! Would definitely read this author again
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.
I loved the description of this book but I really struggled reading this. Too much going on that sadly wasn’t very interesting (ie all the business buyout stuff) and I guessed the twist far too easily.
