I thought I was good however I wasn’t really a fan of the kind of sci-fi element to it but I don’t know if that was just because I wasn’t really expecting it. There was something about it that just didn’t sit right with me and I don’t really know what it is but it was good.

I really enjoyed the concept of the book and the mix of genres.

Nolan had a great arc and you really rooted for him at the end.

Great book, great characters and great set up!

I must say, I really enjoyed this! The story progression was so beautifully done I immediately lost all since of my surroundings in the real world. I will give a more detailed review once I have all my thoughts together.

I've always said that dating comedians can lead to no good outcome - so when I discovered a romcom that essentially proves my hypothesis, I was keen to give it a read.

New Adult follows Nolan Baker, an aspiring comedian, who struggles to balance his commitment to stand-up comedy with his relationships to friends and family. An attempt to fix his mistakes using some suspicious manifesting crystals results in Nolan finding himself seven years in the future with plenty of career success but no loved ones to share it with - and no obvious way back to the life he remembers.

First things first, this book was just the right amount of ridiculous. The entire time-travel/body swap premise worked well because the characters, their personalities and growth through the story all felt realistic enough. The comedy industry setting was also enjoyable and made New Adult stand out from other similar rom-coms.

Tropes were abundant in this novel (friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, second-chance romance) but they felt relatively fresh as a result of the magical elements of the book.

Overall, I really enjoyed New Adult - it was silly, original and easy to read. Going forward I suspect I will read more of Timothy Janovsky's work.

New Adult it the queer recreation of the movie 13 Going on 30. I noted it was very similar in its premise and elements of the story seemed familiar.
Nolan Baker is a wannabe stand up comedian who’s priorities seem to be drifting away from family and friends, and more towards the selfish progression of his career. Following his sisters wedding where he left in order to perform, his relationships take a huge hit following his unforgivable actions. He goes to sleep with some crystals and a candle from his sisters employer, Doop, who are all about self-care and spirituality and wakes up in a strange place, realising he’s 7 years in the future.
I enjoyed the book. I find I’m on the fence with Timothy Janovsky’s books. I enjoy reading them but haven’t been blown away or loved them. With New Adult, I found it difficult to like Nolan. Even after his time jump I found him frustrating and selfish but that’s just my personal opinion. I know many people love Janovsky’s books and for a great reason. They’re wholesome, inclusive and have fun plots and gorgeous covers, I think they might not be for me.
Thank you for the eARC!

🔮childhood friends to lovers turned enemies to lovers
🔮time shift (13 going on 30 style but actually 23 going on 30)
🔮bookshop owner x comedian

After waking up 7 years in the future Nolan has to decide what’s really important to him: family and the love of his life or the career in stand up comedy he’s always dreamed of!

I really enjoyed this! It had angst, cute moments, spicy moments, a touch of magic and a sarcastic protagonist I couldn’t help but root for!

Having grown up with an unhealthy obsession with films like Freaky Friday, Just My Luck, and It’s a Boy Girl Thing, there was no doubt I would pick up a book that’s described as part 13 Going on 30. New Adult is a wonderfully written story about Nolan Baker, an aspiring comedian, who gets dropped seven years into the future, where all his dreams have come true, except one, being with the man he loves, Drew.

As with all the body swap films I loved growing up, Nolan’s selfishness causes so many problems that need to be fixed. He leaves his sister's wedding, where Drew is his date, to hightail it to a last-minute comedy gig as a stand-in for a famous comedian. The fallout from disappointing his family and potentially losing drew causes Nolan to wish on a set of magical crystals, skipping to the good part of his life.

In this future, Nolan and Drew are enemies, and while Nolan doesn’t know why yet, that doesn’t stop him from begging for Drew’s help. The relationship these two formed had my stomach swopping every other minute, and I loved being there while Nolan worked to repair the damage he’s done. Janovsky really did a great job writing Nolan, making him unlikeable but still relatable enough that you want to read his story, a sweet, romantic story that left me feeling warm and fuzzy after reading it.

I didn't expect to love this as much as I did, and I adored it! It got me right in the feels, gave me pretty much every possible emotion at some point throughout. The character growth was unmatched and I am just in awe of the author

I love this type of book - the type where some sort of magical event leads characters to embark on a journey to not only find love but also become a better version of themselves. In this case, Nolan woke up one day and was 7 years in the future and immediately realized that even though he had an incredibly successful career as a comedian - something he’d been wanting for ages - he had got it at the cost of his relationships with everyone he loved.

It comes as no surprise then that Nolan’s character development is a huge part of this book, something that I absolutely loved! Even though he wasn’t very likable at the beginning of the book and had very clear selfish tendencies, following him on his journey made it impossible to not be rooting for him by the end (and most of the book, really). I loved seeing him working to fix his relationships and becoming a better person, someone who put his loved ones first and still continued to fight for his dreams.

The romance was also amazing! I loved Nolan and Drew’s relationship, the way they were able to find each other and fall in love again even in a different timeline. They were so clearly meant to be together and I was thrilled that they were able to find their way back to each other.

Thirteen Going On Thirty x the Boy Meets Boy series… what more could you ask for? I was so excited to see that another Timothy Janovksky book had been uploaded to Netgalley, having received a digital arc of Never Been Kissed a year or so ago, I just HAD to apply to read this book early. To put it in short, this definitely did not disappoint and I fell in love with another set of Janovsky's characters all over again. At first, I wasn’t a fan of the main character, like I assume most people weren’t, to be frank, I thought he was a total asshole. However, as the book went on, he grew on me, as did the rest of the characters in this book. The main character is the definition of Taylor Swift’s anti-hero, he keeps doing and saying things that he shouldn’t, but you can’t help but route for him. But, in the times that you hate Nolan, Drew makes up for it, he is absolutely the cutest and most wholesome love interest I’ve read about. This is one to pull you out of a reading slump, or to read in one sitting by the pool on holiday, or simply if you’re looking for a lighthearted, fluffy and unlike anything you’ve read before rom-com.

As I said before, this is a Thirteen Going on Thirty-inspired story, so expect a huge time jump and a lot of confusion for the main characters, and possibly for yourself until you understand whereabouts in the timeline we actually are. Twenty-three-year-old Nolan Baker wants to make it by the time he turns 30, to be well-known and famous in the stand-up career, and have all the money in his bank account that he could possibly imagine. Nolan realises this could totally happen for him when he is given an ultimatum, first, attend his sister's wedding with his best friend Drew Techler as his date, and give up on comedy. Or, to fill in the last minute for a famous comedian, of course, Nolan being who he is, chooses the latter, disappointing his sister, family and his date/best friend. After realising that everyone is royally pissed at him, Nolan wishes for his dream life on a set of “magical healing crystals” from a dodgy company in his sister's wedding gift bags. What he doesn’t expect is for them to work, and for him to wake up the next morning 7 years older. He may be living his dream, but it's nothing without those that he loves, none of whom will accept future Nolan's calls. In order to get back to his younger self, he must prove that he is not the man they think he is, with the help of an older, hotter Drew Techler.

This book was addictive, I spent all the free time that I had reading this book so I could find out what happened, and if Nolan ever got those years of his life back. I’m not telling you anything. What I can say is that I didn’t expect to love this book as much as I did, it was heartwarming and hits you right in the feels, and seeing Drew and Nolan come together once more was everything I never knew I needed. I can’t say much else except that I absolutely loved this book, if you’re a fan of Thirteen Going On Thirty, friends to lovers, second chance romance and extremely adorable corgis, then this one is definitely for you. Thank you Netgalley, Timothy Janovsky and Sourcebooks UK for supplying me with one of this author's awesome ARCs!

*eARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

i was attracted to this book on its premise of being 13 Going On 30 meets One Last Stop, though it featured more what i found stressful about those pieces of media than what i liked - regardless i'd still really recommend it, just found the time travel bit stressful!
the characters are so strong in this - i was rooting so hard for nolan although he was meant to be quite unlikeable, so his development by the end was really great. i also liked the ADHD rep - maybe it could have been addressed more explicitly than it was but it felt really accurate to what it's like trying to keep up with day-to-day life things and maintaining relationships. bonus points for imogen and milkshake omg too cute!!
not sure if the book was fast-paced or i read it too quickly but i did feel a bit like the relationship happened a tad too quickly.
this book probably isn't one i'll reread but i am really looking forward to reading the rest of janovsky's work!

A tale that gives queer 13 going on 30!

Nolan is fast forwarded 7 years in the future and realises that constantly putting yourself and your career first has consequences.

Adventures ensue to get him back to the past, trying to heal relationships along the way.

A little drag in pace I’d say in the middle and did think some things were glossed over or resolved a bit too quickly.

However, I love a good cheesy time travel rom com and this really fit the bill.

Thanks NetGalley and Sourcebooks UK.

I really enjoyed everything about this book!!! It was very fun, whilst touching on some more serious subjects, it flowed beautifully and was easy to get lost and sit and read for hours !!! I really loved the characters; I liked that Nolan was very imperfect and a bit self-centered, but how he reflected on that and made the decision to actively try and change as the story went on. I rlly loved Drew; he was so sweet and caring, which made his words so much sharper when hes angry at Nolan (with very good reason). I loved CeeCee and it was rlly sad to learn about all she'd been trying to juggle and face alone. I loved the amount of casual queer rep !!! All in all, I just really enjoyed this book and Im looking forward to the release so I can buy a physical copy, and will definitely strive to read more of the authors books !!!

I had this book on my wishlist when I got approved for the ARC copy and WOW I devoured this story in 2 days. I adored it. Think 13 Going On 30 but LGBTQ+ and 2020's rather than the sometimes questionable early 00s. I laughed I swooned and I cried. Like fully cried. Friends to lovers, sibling dynamics and health of a parent all mix together to make this wonderful novel. Nolans character arc was wonderful to read and the realisation of sometimes what you want and wish for isn't what you need. I can't wait to read more by Timothy and already have his other books on my wishlist.
Would recommend to everyone such a good reading.

An enjoyable twist on the tropes from films such as Freaky Friday, 15 Going On 30. How would you respond if you woke up 10 years in the future and had to deal with the consequences of some ill-advised choices? Are we, at 20, the person we will be at 30 and what about that journey are the parts we need to take care of? The book slows a little in the final third but overall was a fun and entertaining read.

I loved this book. Despite the main character being intentionally dislikable in parts, and very annoying in others, I really grew to love the people in this book and genuinely wanted the best for them. It’s not the kind of book I usually read, the magical element being something I wouldn’t usually choose, but I really enjoyed the way this was written and the suspense of not knowing how it would work out in the end. A fantastic read by an author I’ve not read before, but will certainly look out for in future.

I was so excited to have been sent an ARC of New Adult by Timothy Janovsky, by NetGalley. This book is classed as a LGBTQIA+ and Romance book and is set to be released in August 2023.

I absolutely loved this book. I am a complete sucker for friends to lovers, or in this case best friends to ‘enemies’ to sorta friends to lovers!!

Nolan gets more than he bargains for when he manifests his future with some gifted crystals and wakes up 7 years in the future. In this future he is incredibly successful and seems to have everything that he ever wanted. Except for the fact that his best friend hates him, as does his family, and he has absolutely no idea what he did to them. The story follows Nolan on his journey to get back to his own time as well as his attempts to be forgiven by those closest to him for past unknown sins.

Basically, imagine 13 Going on 30 but gay, with crystals and a sketchy company that may or may not be magic.

I enjoyed this book as a light, fun read. The characters are fun, the premise is well-known and easily digestible and the romance is sweet. There were parts that felt hollow to me and shoved in to make sure the plot fit - it's hard to shove time travel into a novel with not many other supernatural elements!
I do think some things happened a bit too quickly or were glossed over. Nolan very quickly works out that the future him is an asshole, despite abandoning his sister's wedding the day before. I felt like there should have been more build to him realising his idiotic tendencies.
I did enjoy the family aspect of this book more than the romance. That felt more well-developed that the chemistry between Nolan and Drew which mainly relied on their many years of friendship. The family connections felt strained but truthful.
All in all, this was a fun read, but one I didn't want to think too deeply into for fear of spoiling it for myself.

One sentence synopsis: aspiring comedian in love with his best friend ruins his sister's wedding after ditching last minute for a gig, wakes up the next morning 7 years older with all of his career goals accomplished and all of his relationships long-ruined.

This book is an absolute GEM. I knew I would like it but I honestly wasn't expecting to love it as much as I do. It's cute, it's funny, the characters feel real and developed. Nolan spends the book trying to get back to his actual timeline after he realises that there is such a thing as too much self care. He discovers that during his missing seven years, he put the nail in the coffin of all of his relationships by using them as fuel for his comedy act and villinising everyone he used to love.

I think this is such a relevant book - after the rise of self-care and 'putting yourself first' messaging over the past two decades, we've reached a point where people take it too far. Yes, it's okay to be selfish sometimes, but not always and not to the detriment of your relationships and the people you love. Nolan embraces this over the course of the book, which was beautiful to see.

While stuck in this future timeline, Nolan decides to make the most of it and try to repair his relationships at best he can. First with Drew, his best friend who he's been in love with for two years and agrees to help him try to get back, and with his family members too.

All in all a great read and I can't wait to get a physical copy when it comes out in August. If you've ever wanted a queer 13 Going on 30, this is it and it doesn't disappoint!

New Adult is a book about Nolan Baker, a struggling comedian who just wants to make his big break in life. When he is given the opportunity of a lifetime, he takes it, and whilst he does really well, he sacrifices his relationship with both Drew, his best friend (and crush), and his sister, whose wedding he had to miss to get the gig. When he wishes on some healing crystals to have a better life after making a mess of his, he wakes up 7 years later, a successful comedian with no contact with Drew or his family–but though he loves the idea of finally achieving his dream, he knows that he can’t fix his relationships unless he manages to go back 7 years and change things. I really enjoyed this book and found that I couldn’t put it down, especially once Nolan was trying to make his way back to the past, whilst healing certain relationships in the current (future) time. I was really pleased with the ending and felt that it was resolved perfectly, and I was happy with how everyone’s story ended. I would really recommend this to anyone looking for a feel-good romance with a bit of adventure and strange magic, as this book was very fun and well-written. I loved it!
