Present Day . Louisa Arnold has always loved Hill House. As a little girl she played in the derelict manor’s overgrown gardens and peered through its cracked ballroom windows, hoping to glimpse spectral lords and ladies dancing within. The tragic story of the wealthy former owners, the Mandevilles, even inspired her to want to teach history. But, trapped by the hardship she grew up in, Lou fears that dream is forever out of reach. After a terrible loss, Lou runs to hide within the house’s ruined halls. To her astonishment, Hill House begins to transform around her – in place of rotting floors and sagging ceilings, are vast silk rugs of embroidered roses and majestic crystal chandeliers. Maids and footmen flit busily around her – is Lou dreaming, or could she actually be standing in this place as it was a hundred years ago? Lou is mystified by the warm welcome she receives as a guest of the illustrious Mandeville family. Over tea parties and shoots, banquets and dancing, she’s suddenly living the life she always dreamed of. And, though she tries to fight it, she’s increasingly drawn to the Mandeville heir, Thomas – whose heart-breaking fate she knows well from the pages of history. As Lou falls more in love with this world that she never imagined could be hers, the truth about Hill House and the destiny of its family begins to unravel around her. Will the past run its stubborn course, swallowing Lou in its wake, or can she save this beautiful place and the people she’s come to treasure from certain ruin?
I’m a sucker for a well-written time-travel story, and this one had lots of things going for it- including some underlining commentary about social inequalities and women’s rights. I enjoyed reading it, but for reasons I can’t fully explain, I didn’t love it. It’s well-written, I just didn’t fully connect with the characters. This may have been a case of it being a “me” problem and not a “them” problem, and so I still recommend giving this one a read.
Thank you Callie Langridge, Storm Publishing, and NetGalley for providing this ARC for review consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.
Time travel. Not a concept that normally interests me. However, I was immediately drawn to the characters. Characters that had to find their purpose in life. A purpose that would change the history for the lives involved, and many others.
The ending left me in tears. If Louisa could travel back in time, why couldn't Tom have traveled into the future?
Definitely a five-star read for me.

Some spoilers ahead***
I really loved the premise of this book. The time travel, the righting of history, the characters and the mystery. I would be delighted to read more from the author as this was the first book of hers that I have come across. The main character was wonderfully written and although I suspected that Will would be a new love interest, I'm glad that we didn't see her just fall for someone else in a rushed ending. Their love was tragic and yet necessary for the happiness of their families.
I did find it a tad strange that she didn't do too much with revealing George, I was expecting her to be at the centre of his great undoing and was waiting for that moment. I didn't understand how what Lou did had that much of an impact.
I love the idea that there is a human vessel in which Hill House uses to pass its messages and would love to know more. I hope there are more books based at Hill House!
All in all, I loved it! Thanks to Netgalley and the author and publisher for a temporary copy in exchange for an honest review
This book wasn't a genre I'd usually read, but I found the premise intriguing so gave it a go. I especially enjoyed the parts that were set in the past. The pace sustained my interest and I genuinely couldn't work out where the author was going to take it in the end. I liked the down-to-earth Louisa and thought Tom was a wonderful romantic hero. The settings were vividly described, the modern-day sink estate contrasting with the opulence of the grand house. The ending was satisfying and I'll definitely look out for future books in the series.
I have only ever read a few time-travel books but have always loved the ones I did read and this is no exception. I really enjoyed it.
A story of family, travelling back in time and falling in love. It is about what you need to do, what do you give up, how do you deal with this situation. This is a book that will absorb you and take you on this journey with Lou. It is emotional, a story about finding your place and where you fit in.
I loved the characters and the house/setting as you really felt you were there, you could picture it all. I love when a story does this. It never got old or boring, was well paced and kept me reading from beginning to end. I didn't want to put it down. 4 1/2 stars from me for sure.
Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
This Book gave me book thrills, I didn’t want it to end.
Louisa Arnold, also known as Lou, has always been drawn to the derelict Hill House not far from where she lives.
Lou stares through the windows imagining the life of grandeur this house must once have hosted.
One Christmas feeling extremely upset Lou finds herself making her way to Hill House, but this visit isn’t going to be like any visit she’s had in the past.
The book is set in two different time zones, Lou’s present time and the early 1900’s.
Lou is a character that I warmed too, also Mrs Hart and Thomas Manderville.
I found this book an exquisite read, there were some great witty one liners, I was totally wrapped up and absorbed in it.
A book from start to finish that captured my heart.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Publisher for an advanced e-book copy. Opinions about this book are entirely my own.
A Time to Change by Callie Langridge due to be published 24th July. I read a pre-release copy care of Netgalley.
I read a lot of historical fiction mainly victorian. This is edwardian set just as WW1 is about to happen. A dual timeline which I loved. What was different was the main character in 2013 goes back in time to 1913 via a mysterious portal in Old abandoned Mill House to live and experience the household 100 years earlier. She has been given this opportunity to try and change the misfortunes of the family and her actions affect the past for them and her too. It is hinted to be book 1 and I would love to see the story and characters develop more. 5 star from me.
Time travel is one of my favourite genres so I was delighted to receive a copy of this book to review. However, I really struggled with the beginning of the book. I couldn't get into it at all and nearly gave up. I decided to keep going as I don't like to give up on books. Half way through I still wasn't sure where the story was going. Then suddenly it seemed to sort itself out. Everything seemed to slot into place and start to make sense. The characters became real and by the end I had my hanky out!

A Time to Change is a time travel novel which takes place in two time periods, one hundred years apart: 1913 and 2013. The main character is Louisa - known as Lou to her friends - who is struggling in 2013 with the accidental death of her mother and her frustration with her two brothers, compounded with her own disappointment with her life. After a visit to the remains of a local mansion, Hill House, Lou finds herself thrown back in time 100 years and a guest at the mansion. The house seems to need her to do something that will save the family who live there, the Mandevilles, but what? I was drawn into the story right away as Lou was a likeable character who cared about the people she met, enough to go back and forth between the two time periods to try to figure out what needed to be done. This novel had the happy ending that I love so much. I understand there may be a sequel in the works? If so, I'm looking forward to reading it! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed A Time to Change, it was an emotional story following Louisa as she navigates life after the tragic death of her mother. All her life Louisa has been fascinated by Hill house, one day after the death of her mother Louisa flees to Hill House to escape her troubles. There she suddenly finds herself in the past and able to see Hill House how it was before it descended into ruins. Here with the help of the Mandeville family Louisa is able to mend her heart in return can she help change history and stop the tragic future of the family and house from happening?
A beautiful story, full of great characters and a once in a lifetime adventure
I love a good time travel novel that I can really sink into and this wound up fitting the bill quite nicely.
The synopsis appealed to me and I began this one without expectations, not quite sure what to expect. While this started off on the slow side for me, I soon found myself invested in the story and will say that A Time to Change turned out to be an engaging and enjoyable read.
Thank you to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the DRC
This is such a beautiful, enthralling story that I just couldn’t put down. I didn’t want it to end, I kept trying to slow down my reading to make the story last longer, but I just couldn’t! I was completely captivated from the very first page, right to the last. The very strong cast of characters are so powerful, the plot is really well written, and the description is just so vivid! It’s a dual timeline, which I love, and is full of romance, love, longing and heartbreak, and enough what-ifs and if-onlys to satisfy my soul! There is joy and happiness too, of course, and as the story unfolds, Tom and Lou begin a journey that will echo through time for a hundred years. Hill House and its occupants took me on an incredible adventure, and I was so sorry when it was over. I loved it! Highly recommended
Louisa Arnold has been fascinated by Hill House since she was a child. Playing in the ruins of the building and its gardens, she would imagine the lives of its previous owner, the Mandevilles. After a traumatic experience, Lou runs to the ruins of Hill House, to hide and lick her wounds. Something extraordinary begins to happen, as the house seems to change, to come back to life, to become the glorious home it once was. Somehow, Lou has been transported back in time to the glory days of Hill House and the Mandeville family. As she begins to fall for Thomas Mandeville, Lou must decide what to do – she knows all to well what the future holds for the man she is falling in love with
This was a DNF for me. I wasn’t gripped by the characters, so when I got to 20% I’d the way through I skipped to the last 3 chapters to see if I’d like the ending enough to suffer through it, and I’m glad I did that as I saw that it wasn’t a HEA but a romance of loss and sacrifice, which isn’t my bag
A Time to Change is one of those special books that will stay with you long after you’ve finished. Full of richly drawn characters and fascinating historical detail, it’s hard to put down.
I can’t wait to read more about the Mandeville family and their home, Hill House, which is so expertly rendered it becomes a character itself.
This is an emotional, perfectly paced and beautifully written time hop which will definitely appeal to anyone who enjoyed The Time Traveller’s Wife. Highly recommend!
