This review is an advanced review for The Girl at the Party @netgalley Thank you for giving me the opportunity to review this audio book.

The story follows Chris and Laura, two old college friends who reunite, as they create a True Crime podcast. The podcast delves into their friend Stephanie's unsolved murder, the suspects are their old college friends. We hear the stories of Chris and Laura from this time as well as hearing from their friendship group years later. Many secrets are uncovered that she'd a new light on Stephanie's death and Chris and Laura begin to recieve threats. The whole friendship group was present the night of Stephanie's death but only one of them is the murderer.

I absolutely loved this audiobook, it was the first audiobook I have listened to and a great one to start on. I loved so many things about this book, the characters were fantastic and I loved trying to predict who did it! I was wrong as usual! This was completely unpredictable with many twists and turns throughout. A real mystery. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who loves a thriller.

Stephanie is murdered after leaving a party with her college friends. 5 years laters two of her friends decide to use a crime podcast to reopen the case and figure out who the killer is. While investigating they learn there was a lot more going on with, not only Stephanie, but all of their friends who were at the party that night.

Overall I enjoyed this book from start to finish. I was actually surprised who the killer was at the end of the book. The story flips between past and present but also between view points of Laura and Chris as they investigate the murder. This multiple perspective was a bit much at the beginning but I did enjoy how the past lead up to the murder and the present lead up to the confession.

At times it did feel slow and I did get annoyed at the Laura and her loyalty to her brother. I understand her mental attitude and guilt but I also wondered how she could be so accepting of her brother and all of his failings.

The narration for this book was very good. However I do think it would have been better with 2 narrators to better suit the multiple character perspectives.

I enjoyed this book: it’s an intriguing concept of a thriller that peels back layers of mystery chapter after chapter.

I listened to this novel and it lends itself well to audio format; the narrator conveys the characters’ thoughts and feelings well, setting a pace that builds as the story (and the jeopardy) escalates.

I did accurately predict who the killer was but that didn’t detract from the overall story or my enjoyment of it.

This was a great story, well written and solidly plotted...

I really had no idea who, in this closed room mystery, was going to end up being the killer. I loved the way the story rolled out via the podcast and I was surprised by both the "who" and the "why".

Awesome debut!

Thank you to the publisher for gifting me a copy. It is my pleasure to write an honest review.

Reading this book was a breath of fresh air. The epilogue had me hooked right away. I love it when a story is so intertwined with our lives. I love contemporary rhrillers, and this one is living proof of that. There is a crime that happened 5 years ago, and two of the victim's friends decide to use a podcast, which is going through the roof, to find out who killed Stephanie on the day of the party where everyone celebrates having finished college. So far, it looks like a thriller like so many others, but the reality is the emotional connection that unites these characters, their flaws, their secrets, their deepest feelings. And the key premise of this book in my opinion is: why does love blind us so much?

The author has a wonderful way of writing. I loved every sentence, and for attentive readers like me, every word is there for a reason, and the epilogue immediately reveals so much, but without actually revealing it, it only implants doubt. As a less positive point, I have nothing to say except, when will this book be translated into my mother tongue (Portuguese)? I think the Portuguese public will want to read this story.

Netgalley thank you so much for providing this phenomenal book.

Their friend is murdered and 5 years later Laura and Chris are creating a podcast to try and help solve who killed her. They never would have expected that it was one of the friends who they were with that same night. Their friends have all moved on since that college night, but nothing is as it seems. This dual POV is quick read with plenty of twists that will leave you guessing until the very end!

The Girl at the Party follows Chris and Laura years after their friend’s unsolved death. Chris convinces Laura to do a podcast with him to try to reveal the truth behind this unsolved case and to attempt to find who is responsible for their friend’s murder. I listened to this as an audiobook and thought the narration was very well done. The pace was a little slow for me and it was missing that wow factor to make it higher than a 3 star for me. Overall I did enjoy the book and would recommend it.

Stephanie died on her way home from a college party years ago and it was never solved. Now 2 of the friends she was with before she walked home alone are investigating her disappearance and doing a podcast on it.

Lots of secrets are revealed during the friend’s investigation. Some were very shocking and sad.

The story flips between past and present in each chapter with a different character’s point of view. The past leads up to the death and the present leads up to a confession.

There were a couple characters I just couldn’t stand but fit perfect for the story. I was certain I guessed the real killer but was in for a shock at the end 👀

"Ever since our friend Stephanie was found murdered four years ago, I’ve been haunted by the feeling that I should have done more. The eight of us at the party were inseparable—and we always thought she was the perfect one. The one who stayed out of trouble. The one who always looked out for us…"

I enjoyed this one. At the start, it was a little difficult to keep everyone straight, but as the story progressed, things got more clear. I enjoy this newer setup where it's a podcaster that is spurring things out, though this one loses a star for being a bit too slow going and not entirely feasible towards the end.

While the twist wasn’t entirely shocking and it wasn't fast paced by any means, it was still satisfying to watch each piece of the puzzle fall into place.

This was a nice quick read, and I do enjoy an audiobook that’s done podcast style or includes a true crime podcast in some way.
I liked the twist and the ending wrapped everything up nicely.
I do think this would have benefited from 2 narrators. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the narrators voice for the male characters.

Chris reaches out to Laura after a long time, seeking her help with his upcoming podcast – an unsolved murder from their past – their dearest friend Stephanie’s murder.
Stephanie was found murdered four years ago – she was always the one who stayed out of trouble in their group. When Chris and Laura start with the podcast and start investigating what really happened in the past they uncover shocking truths about Stephanie being attacked, violated and more & more evidences seem to point at someone really close to Laura.
Someone is also trying to stop the investigation as otherwise their family secrets will come out.
I liked how the story starts to come together in a meaningful way and all started to make sense towards the end.
Overall this was a good fast paced read – thank you netgalley, Danielle Stewart & Bookouture Audio for approving the Audio ARC in exchange for honest review

I loved this so much. It reminded me of another book I liked, Tell Her Story by Margot Hunt. Both stories revolve around a personal cold case and a podcast used as a tool for investigation.

The Girl at the Party follows Laura and Chris who are making a podcast about their friend Stephanie’s murder. After Stephanie was murdered the entire friend group stopped talking. Now with the podcast, they are all talking again for the first time in years, and not everyone is happy to be looking into Stephanie’s murder.

The podcast was all Chris. He has a successful career in it and convinced Laura to join him. Chris did get a little annoying at times but it was only because he took the podcast so seriously, which he should.

Everyone is a little suspicious and I couldn’t figure out who the killer was. When the reveal happens I wouldn’t say I was shocked but I did not figure it out.

This is a great mystery and I highly recommend it.

Unfortunately the audio narration was not my cup of tea. It took me out of the story and unfortunately could not enjoy. To give this book a fair shot I shall be picking it up on a physical format as it sounds right up my alley.

4 years ago Stephanie was murdered after a party where she and her friends were celebrating the end of university her killer has never been found. Stephanie was part of a group of 8 friends who had been inseparable but since the murder the friendship has changed and they have lost touch

This story starts 4 years after the murder where 2 of Stephanie's friends one of who has a popular real crime podcast following decide to investigate what happened and find her killer and to do this they need to speak to their old friends and reopen the wounds .
This has got lots of twists and turns and I thought I knew who the killer was a few times and was wrong which is a sign of a good book to me
I got through this audio book in a couple of days as I was hooked

I found the plot a little flimsy and unbelievable. Why were they making so much effort to conceal some of those secrets? I didn’t understand. But a serviceable thriller none the less

I would love to say thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to have an audio copy of The Girl at the Party by Danielle Stewart, this review is simply my own, and mine alone.
It truly was a crazy story. Two friends who lost touch after college teams back up to create a podcast of their friend who was murdered at their party. It was simply a roller coaster of craziness. It has a few different povs. Between Chris, Stephanie and Laura. In both the past and present. You quickly learn not everyone is who they seem to be the more they deep dive into the podcast. Even to the point their lives become threatened to the point of death. I do recommend giving this book a shot if you like thrilling mysteries with some fun twists and turns. This book will be right up your alley.

The first book I’ve read/listened by this author. I struggled with this book at the start as i found it really slow and a little bit unbelievable. Alternating between the POV of the main male and female characters, and also the past and present, it kept you guessing to the end.

The narrator was good and made the story easy to listen to.

4ish stars

This was another story that focuses on the resurgence of true crime in mainstream media; specifically, the book is about two friends working on a podcast in the hopes of discovering what happened to their friend who died years ago. The book had a range of characters, the plot was typical but solid, and the end was twisty and intriguing. Overall, I was happy with my reading experience.

Stephanie has been murdered.
She was going home from an end of year party
A few years later Chris and Laura decided to do a true crime pod cast on the cast of what may have happened to Stephanie. While digging into old friends' testimonies about what they remember, the duo find out some disturbing clues.
Jake is Laura's brother. While he may seem innocent, many accusations are being pointed his way. But there are other fingers pointing towards the rest of the teens that were at the party as well

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review. This is a story that starts off with a prologue in the voice of the murder victim Stephanie and that captured my attention right away as it made the victim feel more real to me. Then the story continued from present time and how one of Stephanie's friends, Chris decides to do a podcast series on what really happened to his friend. In order to gather information, Chris contacts the rest of his college friends in hopes of trying to solve the mystery of what happened 8 yrs earlier at the last party of the school year. The story was entertaining and kept me interested throughout trying to figure out who was responsible and who was hiding things. Just when I thought I had it figured out....here comes the twist...just goes to show you how one bad decision in life can be a domino affect of several other things in your life. Enjoy!!
