This was an enjoyable read for an outlander fan. It’s a personal memoir but also reflects on the Scottish highlands history and landscape. A great read.

Thank you Octopus publishing, Radar and NetGalley for this ARC of WayPoints by Sam Heughan.

Ever since Sam Heughan burst upon our screens as James Alexander McKenzie Fraser in the hit TV show Outlander, we have been captivated with and if I'm being honest a little in love with Jamie Fraser... so when I read Clanlands ( co written with Graham McTavish) who plays his uncle Dougal in the series, I was fascinated with their travelogue, their down to earth humour and the rapport they share with each other.

This book is, in my opinion not just Sam's memoirs, but also a travelogue, and his love letter to Scotland. I enjoyed the book.

Sam Heughan is, not only a successful actor and charismatic chap - he's also a great writer. This is a lovely travelogue that explores Sam's life and career with wit, charm and humour -a lovely follow up to his adventures round Scotland and New Zealand

I’ve loved Sam Heughan since I saw him as Jamie Fraser in Outlander a few years ago so I had to read his book.

I’ve found his writing to be wonderfully descriptive and flows so well and as advertised, it absolutely is a love letter.

Sam’s self discovery journey is so bare and laid out, it causes a lot of thinking to be done. It’s also very informative about trails along the west highlands which would come in handy on my next hill walking trip!

Thank you so much to NetGalley for allowing me to experience this

Thank you NetGalley for the review copy of this book.
This insight into Sam Heughan’s personality was highly original and very approachable whilst in a beautiful setting. The journey Sam goes on is described so well, you could almost imagine you are there walking with him.
I purchased this book for two of my friends it was that good.

I loved this book! It was so well written, I almost thought Sam was reading it to me. I don’t usually like books that time-travel, but this worked so well. I highly recommend this book for any Sam fans or just anyone who likes a good read.

Sam Heughan it's not only a joy for the eyes, he's also a clever person and this book is a well written and interesting mix of travelogue, biography and reflections.
It was great to meet the human being behind the actor and I liked Sam, a men who's much more than one of the most exciting embodiment of a well loved book boyfriend.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I'd like to thank Sam for being so open and honest throughout his memoir regarding some of the hurdles that he's had to overcome. I could totally relate to the absence of a father and the struggles with abandonment and rejection.

Waypoints is obviously going to be a hit with fans of Outlander, but it's worth so much more than that, and will delight those of all ages who have an infinity with Scotland and the West Highland Way.

I'm a little disappointed that the paperback didn't include any of the photographs mentioned at the back of the book. I would have loved to have seen them.

The West Highland Way is a trek of 154km in length and Heughan's book gives us snippets of his private life and career interspersed with his trek.

Whilst there are some serious notes and topics touched upon, there's also humour and Heughan's descriptions of talking to his friends the mushrooms was brilliant, but to be caught doing it by a fellow walker, how embarrassing.

An interesting book about Sam Heughan aka Jaime Fraser from the amazing tv-show Outlander.

In this book we get to know more about him and his thoughts while we follow him under his hiking trip.

This is the first book I read by Sam Heughan and after this one I might pick up his other work.

Thanks for letting me read this one.

I was only recently lured into the world of Outlander, so knew little about Sam Heughan.

I’ll admit that “celebrity” biographies are often disappointing. This exceeds all expectations.

Waypoints is the story of Sam Heughan’s somewhat impetuous, hike along the West Highland Way.

Interspersed, are autobiographical vignettes. Sam is startlingly honest and rather self-deprecating.
Career and personal highs are related with gratitude to those involved and lows are disclosed, demonstrating a vulnerability, that takes courage to reveal.

Episodes from the hike range run the gamut of emotions. Starting with the naive optimism of setting off in October, weighed down with a vast array of brand new essential equipment.

Very rapidly reality kicks in leaving Sam feeling overwhelmed and defeated. He was very close to abandoning the whole trip.

Along the way new acquaintances provide support and perspective.

He allows himself to enjoy the surroundings and focus less on conquering a goal.

Sam talks to the hoards of mushrooms along the way, once being caught by a fellow walker to his chagrin!

The joy, sense of achievement and development of a new reflective view at the end of the journey make a pleasing conclusion.

I’m happy to recommend this book. One does not need to be a fan, to find much to enjoy here.

I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review. All views expressed are my own.

Unfortunately for me, I can’t read this as the file format is in a acsm and no matter what file reader, I try to get to read it it just won’t work for me, I am sad that I really wanted to read this as a fan of Sams, but I’ll be picking up a physical copy so I can read to my hearts content. Thanks for the opportunity.

While most people know Sam Heughan from his leading role in the TV series Outlander... you don’t have to be a fan to appreciate this book. The author starts his West Highland Way hiking trip from Glasgow all the way up the north of Scotland to Fort William, for the epic climb to Ben Nevis – the highest point in the UK. While making this hiking trip, Sam shares thoughts, struggles, and ups and downs not only of the trip but of his life as well, particularly his way to the acting career, which wasn’t easy. Revealing, painfully honest the story of the human ability to persevere and overcome the obstacles thrown in one's way and still reach that top of the mountain. Reading this book, I not only got to know more about Sam and his way of thinking but also to realise that these struggles, hopes and dreams can be very similar in nature for a lot of creative people out there, hence I find it very relatable as well. While I’m not yet a success story myself, this book is something to look back to again, when things don’t go right.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that Sam is not only a talented actor but a writer as well. It’s not the first book written by him that I’ve read, as he went on the writing adventure previously with Graham McTavish. However, this is his first solo writing adventure, which in my opinion, is definitely well crafted!

Do I am a fan of Sam? Yes do I enjoyed the book. YES I am not a big biography reader but because are the memories of Sam I wanted to have access to this arc. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for give me the access and to sam for exist. I like the duality of this book because I felt sometimes was very practical and other times where very poetical I liked the narration of the author own journey with struggles and all. I like the vulnerability in this book you can really sense it and as a reader you always appreciate this. I like the way the story is controlled and I like it was a time of his life where he shout off the whole tv thing and focus in his hiking. I do recomend the book was interesting and enjoyable.
