This book was very colorful and it is a great way to inspire children to dream big and they can accomplish what they put their minds to! Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest feedback!
This is a book about a little girl Abi meeting a robot and their trip to get the lost robot back home. The story itself and the ideas behind it are fine. However, this book is too wordy and too long. It’s suffering from what is commonly called show not tell. This book is a lot of the author telling you what people are thinking and feeling and there is very little movement. I do highly like the illustrations. I think their attention-grabbing and kids would like them. But there is a problem. The author freely admits on the last page of the book that the images are AI produced. This is a big problem in the book world right now as AI normally starts with using somebody else’s IP or intellectual property and builds off of that. So, a full book whose entire set of illustrations are AI can create a copyright issue and be a downturn in the eyes of readers who follow the book marketplace. I really wanted to like this book but it’s a miss.
Unfortunately I cannot read or review this title. The title will not load on the app and none of the programs I have on my phone or chromebook will read the format that is used. Since I cannot submit without a star rating I will give it three stars.
TOO MANY WORDS PER PAGE.
I respect authors so much.. but you can't put short stories in picturebook format. Parents aren't gonna want to read that to their kid, kids aren't going to want to read it.. It's just not gonna work.
A heartwarming children's book that combines technology, friendship, and important life lessons. Highly recommended.
This enchanting tale follows the adventures of Addy, a young girl with a vivid imagination, and Jaz, a learning AI companion. Together, they embark on a journey through the vibrant city of Baltimore, turning everyday experiences into extraordinary lessons.
Perfectly suited for children aged 4 to 8, this captivating book seamlessly combines the wonders of technology with important life lessons. As Jaz discovers human emotions and societal responsibilities, young readers will be enthralled, developing their understanding of empathy, friendship, and environmental care. The story not only entertains but also fosters an early interest in STEM fields, specifically technology, robotics, and Artificial Intelligence, igniting a sense of curiosity and imagination in children like Addy.
This is a beautifully written book about friendship. AI meets Addy. They form a connection just by being together. Human and machine can be best of friends as it was shown in this book. Learning from others is a great way to form a friendship . the kids would absolutely LOVE this book. Friendships form in many ways and this book is just one way to forge a friendship. Must read and illustration s are beautiful.
I received a free copy of the book and is voluntarily writing a review
Engaging for young readers - This book beautifully highlights the power of empathy and reminds us that behind every technological wonder lies a human story. I love how the author skillfully weaves in valuable life lessons without being preachy. It’s a delightful read that entertains and teaches in the most subtle and enjoyable way.
Thank you to the author and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange of a honest review.
The concept of this story is awesome and innovative. A young girl, Addy, finds an AI robot on her way home named Jaz, Jaz explains they belong to Johns Hopkins University and don't know their way back.
Unfortunately, I found the story is somewhat disjointed. The AI explains its purpose is to identify human emotion, which is is exemplified when Addie takes the AI to her little brother's birthday party. The suddenly it's the next day and Addie takes Jaz on an adventure to share a bit about herself and her community. Overall, most elements of the story felt forced and unnatural. The text layout was also pretty off-putting.
I really enjoyed this read and my kids did also! With so much uncertainty around AI currently, I think this story really shows the positives - how when humans and AI can work together, so much can be achieved! I adore the illustrations and I think it's really fitting for this story. A fantastic peak into the future.
This was definitely a unique children's book. I think if would be a good option for kids who are becoming interested in technology, but I do think the concept of AI may be a little tricky for most kids reading picture books. It was fun watching as Jaz learned about her own empathy and the world, instead of just registering what people are saying, but I'm not sure kids would normally pick up on all of that without a parent's help.
This is a cute story - and a good introduction for girls of colour to the possibilities of STEM - which introduces young readers to a small, lost robot named Jaz who encounters a young girl named Addy. Jaz's GPS is malfunctioning, so it needs help to get back to the Johns Hopkins University laboratory that is its home. Luckily, Addy is as kind as she is helpful, so she is willing to help Jaz find its way home.
But not before they have some fun along the way! That includes showing Jaz a birthday party, an African cultural exhibit, and a few other instances of human kindness from Addy, before their journey together is over.
But is it really? Because just as Jaz learning about humans and their emotions, Addy is learning that a future in robotics and STEM may be something she wants to explore further. So this is really just the beginning of the adventure for Jaz and Addy!
