This was really helpful in deciding what type of greenhouse I wanted to make, and what definitely would not work for me.
As an educator who uses and demonstrates the immense use of greenhouses, I found Dream Greenhouse for Beginners by Media Gardens a wonderful surprise. I've seen so many greenhouse designs and books that I was wondering what will be new. But this is a book that demonstrates more layouts than what meets the eye.
What I appreciated the most was the immense photos and for it listing beginners in the title it wasn't basic. The book offered a litany of types of greenhouses from wood, metal, lots of windows, opaque windows on and on. A lot of great designs and applications with the book having a very user-friendly format. :)
Dreamhouse for Beginners is a book I do not hesitate to recommend.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher MediaGarden LLC for the opportunity to read and review Dream Greenhouse for Beginners.
Dream Greenhouse for Beginners is just that...for beginners. And this is the book I needed. I am wanting to build a greenhouse and I have no idea where to begin. I need to know all the things greenhouse. I purchased about 4 books on greenhouses, some claiming to be for beginners, they were not. THIS BOOK IS! It covers everything you need to know about greenhouses. This book covers everything from greenhouse types, planning to build, to heat or not to, types of foundation, types of water management, and much more. (For those with the need, there are also chapters on types of plants, starting seeds, etc).
I will be referencing this book for years to come even after I build a greenhouse and have more knowledge about it. Definitely recommend this book for anyone interested in greenhouses and growing in greenhouses.
Dream Greenhouse for Beginners is a well written and accessible guide to choosing, sourcing, building (or buying), and using a greenhouse for the home gardener. Released 27th April 2023, it's 240 pages and is available in paperback and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers, this book is currently included in the KU subscription library to borrow and read for free.
Season extenders and gardening under glass are so very useful and a goal for almost all gardeners at one time or another. They allow us to save time and money by starting seeds and propagating plants, vastly increasing the range of varieties which we can grow in the garden. This book is a good starting place to gather info, plan, and map out possibilities.
The introduction is very basic but comprehensive and covers what greenhouses are, what the different types of structures provide (or don't), how to prioritize between needs and wants, all important placement, and more. Following sections cover sourcing, building, operations, troubleshooting, and life in the greenhouse (including pest management, seed starting, etc).
The author/pubisher have also included a good links/resources list including online links for further reading and suppliers. There is no index in the pre-publication materials provided for review, but the interactive table of contents is very well annotated. Readers who choose the ebook format can of course also use the text search to find information quickly and effectively. The book is sparingly photographed throughout. Although not comprehensively stuffed full of photos, the ones which are included are clear and in color.
Five stars. This would make a good choice for public library acquisition, home use, gardening and activity clubs, allotments and community gardens.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

A book that has pretty much everything a greenhouse newbie needs. No matter what you wonder about, how, where, when, what, you'll get this answer. the book covers different types of greenhouses, what to plant, when to plant, how to plant, water, fertilizers, pest and anything else you can think of. For me the most important things were ventilation, avoiding pests, and moisture. For you it can be something else, but I bet you'll find the answer. Very comprehensive book, knowledgeable, and easy to read.
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a serious book! It is full of information about greenhouses truly from the ground up. The book talks about picking a spot for your greenhouse, choosing materials and assembly and tips for planning to help you achieve your gardening dreams. The book is a little dense which can make it a bit much at times, especially for beginners. But overall this is a a real thorough guide to getting started on and maintaining a greenhouse.
