A great third book in the One of Us series! Karen has a way of drawing you in and getting you hooked on these characters and what will Happen to them. I definitely would recommend this book and the others in the series
This was the third and final installment of this series and I found it really wrapped this up nicely.
I did find it felt a bit repetitive to the rest of the series but still introduced new aspects which kept me wanting to read.
Overall this was a good book that gave a satisfactory ending to this series.
Thank you Netgalley for my review copy.
I found this book to be a bit more 'twisty turny' than the 1st 2 which kept my attention more. The characters seemed more fully in the book. Storyline is gripping and enough of an ending to be a great end to a series.
I have loved the previous books in the series and how they have unfolded; I did love this one but this wasn't my favourite of the series. I felt that a lot of the story line was repeated but just another way for this one. Karen is a very clever writer who has you hooked and this one was no different however i just wish the story was different to what had been done before or that the new characters were not following the same sort of plot line. I think that you can have a series which is connected without being repetitive - keeps the readers hooked for longer.
I love the relationship the characters have with each other and how they have built the friendships over the series; McManus is great at pulling you into their lives so you feel like you are right there.
I felt the ending wasn't fully wrapped up and i wonder if that is for another book; if not I do think that the characters lives could have been more wrapped other than them all just leaving. Also can we find out if Nate gets his money?!
Yes! Another McManus book. I really enjoy her writing even though it's YA. I recommend her books a lot as well as Holly Jackson. McManus is definitely the way to go if younger readers are willing to try the thriller genre.
I'll be the first to say I've struggled to see the hype with this series. I'm not usually a crime mystery reader, but the hype did make me curious and whilst I enjoyed the first one I have felt that the quality has diminished as the series has (potentially unnecessarily) continued.
A fantastic end to a great trilogy. The suspense! Such a genuinely entertaining thriller for teens. Karen M McManus never misses.
Loved this whole series, Karen M. McManus is a total win for my students. I loved gossiping with my form about theories and characters. Such a fun mystery and always a place in the library for this author!
Once again a gripping YA thriller for this author, even though I was a bit lost with all of the characters. But I can"t wait for her to write adult thrillers if it ever happens!
The third installment of the Bayview Four mysteries and just as good as the last. I can't get enough of Karen M Mcmanus' writing and loved this just as much as all her others
This was another great instalment of the series. I found it a bit tricky slotting back in with the characters and figuring out who was who and what their connection was to each other but once I got that down it was like being back with old friends. I don’t read a lot of YA anymore but I adore this series, there’s always something happening, it’s not dull and the mystery elements are always so well executed!
This genre is one of the most popular currently in our Library and Karen McManus is extremely well liked.
This was the third and final installment of the One Of Us series and was another great read.
Will definitely be getting this for our library. Thank you for the chance to read it!
The teen in my house loves these books, they manage to perfectly skirt the line between junior and adult fiction, just challenging enough for older readers while maintaining the rapid pace they love. Suitable for male and female readers too which is always a bonus
It was great to step back into the world of these familiar characters and enjoy the next 'chapter' as we move through the generations at Bayview and learn more about their pasts and what makes them tick. I have already recommended this fast-paced, familiar yet brand-new story to many of our students. McManus is so readable and relatable to today's teens with the social media element definitely playing a huge part in their lives.
With all the twists and turns we have come to expect and the knowledge of the characters growing with each instalment, this is a highly enjoyable book.
The end of the triology of One Of Us Is Lying, and what an ending it was. As always, Karen's writing had me hooked, gripped, and intrigued as to what was going to happen, and I loved being back in Bayview with the Bayview Crew. I honeslt love all these characters so much, and Addy has truly beeb the character most to change, which I love for her. Sad the trilogy is over, but I can't wait to see what Karen brings out next! (Always an autobuy for me)
Karen McManus never disappoints! I really like how she followed the story of the Bayview High, the characters have a place in my heart. And still, the story always has a new turn and surprises the reader with plot-twists close to the ending. I really enjoyed the last Bayview-chapter!
This is the third and final instalment of the Bayview series following One of Us is Lying, and One of Us is Next. In theory, it would work as a standalone as there are some recaps. I found these useful reminders but I think this would work better if you read the whole triology.
This brings together characters from the two previous books to work together to unravel a final mystery and hopefully draw a conclusion to the complex relationships of the Bayview students.
The narrative is told from different perspectives:
Phoebe, who is still recovering from events in the previous book and coming to terms with her younger brother’s involvement in murder.
Nate, who is coping with Browyn being away and building a life of his own.
Addy, who has to confront her past before she can move on.
There are also some flashbacks that help explain the events in this book, but also shed more light on events in the previous books, too.
I have really enjoyed this series, and this was a great ending. I feel like it does tie up some of the loose ends and allows some of the characters to rebuild relationships and finally move on woth their lives.
Fans of the series are going to continue to love Nate and Bronwyn’s relationship. I personally loved Addy’s storyline. There’s a great redemption arc (no spoilers!), and you leave with a greater understanding of the motivations behind Bayview’s love of revenge.
In my opinion, the mystery wasn’t as strong as the first book, which I loved, and it was slow to build up. But the pace really picks up towards the end, and the reader will not be disappointed by the trademark twists and reveals.
Thank you to Netgalley for my gifted digital copy of One of Us is Back, and I will always recommend this series to people who want to read YA.
One of Us Is Lying has been the most popular book in our Library for the past 2 years and with this return to its' original setting, Karen M McManus has another sure fire hit on her hands!
"One of Us Is Back" by Karen McManus is a young adult thriller centered around the return of a supposedly deceased student, Simon. His unexpected reappearance at Bayview High sets off a series of events as old secrets resurface and a new mystery emerges. As tensions rise among the students, they must confront their past actions and grapple with the consequences. The plot is marked by suspenseful twists and revelations, but some readers might find it somewhat predictable. The characters, while diverse, may come across as somewhat stereotypical and lacking in depth, which impacts the overall impact of the story.
Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for this ARC.
Thrilling adventure that combines mystery, well-written prose, and a whole lot of fun characters!
