This book effortlessly celebrates the joy of being part of a loving family and leaves a warm feeling in the reader's heart. The addition of a coloring section at the end of each story provides an interactive and creative element, allowing children to engage further with the Stanford family's adventures. With its relatable and uplifting content, this book is perfect for young readers seeking heartwarming tales of family bonds.
This book was weird. The graphics were not great. The writing was insanely simple. The layout and format was not something I'd go for. I definitely wouldn't buy this for my daughter and that's a shame because it's got a great message.
Thanks @netgalley for the eARC!
In an era where respect for the elderly has been eroded into near non-existence in western countries in particular, and the cult of the individual's interests over those of the family and/or community has created an unnecessarily selfish global culture, the Stanford family experience is a refreshing change.
The message that children grow up stronger and happier as a result of close family relationships with loving family members like grandmothers and great grandmothers (and grandfathers and great grandfathers too, in principle!) is an important one. Those of us who have experienced it can vouch for that.
I would have liked to see a few more examples of the interactions between the elders and their littles, but this relatively simple story did get the message across.
The diversity element was brought in quite nicely. And I absolutely love the option of colouring in the pictures at the end!
