Will and Erin are happily married with a young daughter and a much loved pet dog. On Valentines Day Will brings Erin a necklace, an unusual occurrence and when he tries to place it around her neck, Erin flinches. There is seemingly no reason for this but Erin is suddenly fearful of Will. Then when their dog Coco goes missing, she blames Will. Her mistrust of her husband escalates and she begins to blame him unreasonably for all sorts of things and before long their marriage is in trouble. A couples therapist is recommended and they begin to see Maggie each Monday. Maggie has her own demons and when they begin to overlap into Will and Erin’s marriage, there seems little hope for their future. As this well woven story develops, long buried secrets are revealed that have far reaching consequences. Can anyone survive the blame and hurt that escalates in every chapter? A clever psychological thriller that has a twist towards the end that brings answers.

I found this to be a decent family drama, told from various POV and over various timelines.
A woman is the victim of a hit and run and her husband turns up at the hospital in the early hours, well groomed and explaining that he and his wife have been having problems.
There are a variety of characters, all with their own issues and the plot is well structured with many red herrings.
It’s an easy read and I’m grateful to NetGalley and Random House, Cornerstone for the opportunity to preview.

Interesting psychological thriller about repressed memories and the impact they have in a marriage.
Well written and keeps you interested to find out where everything links together.
Recommended.

Thanks netgalley.
Really enjoyed this.
It's a page turner from.beginging to end. Keeps u guessing.

This novel was okay. The characters I couldn't connect with in this genre. I think I need something with more meaning as this felt very materialistic.

An interesting and intriguing plot told from various points of view. Some shifting back in time but overall well told. A surprising ending.
An easy and compelling read.

This is the one couple’s therapy you will want to attend! A complex relationship is put to the ultimate test when the woman becomes a victim of an accident (or is it?)
So good you won’t be able to stop turning the pages!

I really enjoyed this and the ending took me by surprise. Even though I had started to guess who it might be, it turned out to be totally different. I read this in one sitting and it kept me hooked right to the very end.

Two people.
Two sides of the story.
Whose do you trust?
Book Review - ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
My first by Heidi Perks but won’t be my last.
Erin and Will start having weekly sessions with therapist Maggie when their marriage is in trouble. However, Maggie soon realises there could be a link between the couple and a tragic event in her past.
I enjoyed this pacy thriller which pulled me in from the start. The chapters move between past and present seamlessly, which is hard to do well but it really works for this story.
My reason for 3.5 rather than 4 stars is because I saw the twist coming, unfortunately.
Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

"The Last Resort" by Heidi Perks is a gripping and suspenseful psychological thriller that explores the intricacies of relationships and the mysteries hidden within them. The story revolves around Erin and Will, a married couple seeking therapy to repair the growing rift in their marriage. Their therapist, Maggie, finds herself caught in the middle of their conflicting accounts, struggling to decipher whose version of the truth to believe.
Perks skilfully builds tension and suspense, keeping readers guessing about the real dynamics of Erin and Will's marriage and the secrets they hold. The narrative unfolds from multiple perspectives, offering a nuanced and layered portrayal of the characters. Each chapter reveals more about their complex lives and motivations, creating a sense of unease and suspicion.
The plot takes a thrilling turn when Erin is involved in a hit-and-run accident, leaving her in critical condition. The story then becomes a race against time to uncover the truth behind the incident, as the possibility of foul play looms large.
Heidi Perks excels in creating an atmosphere of paranoia and mistrust, making it challenging for readers to discern who is trustworthy and who isn't. As the layers of deception unravel, the novel keeps you on the edge of your seat, eagerly turning pages to uncover the shocking truth.
"The Last Resort" is a masterfully crafted psychological thriller that will keep you hooked until the very last page, with its cleverly woven plot, well-drawn characters, and a suspenseful atmosphere that lingers long after the final chapter.

Wow! I loved it, I could not put it down, best book I have read in a while. I loved the different points of view to the story and how it developed. This was very cleverly written I couldn't guess the ending which is always a plus for me. I would definitely look out for future books from this author. 5 stars!

4.5 Stars
A distrustful relationship. A hit and run accident. A therapist with her own agenda. Who is telling the truth? What's not to love? This is a multi-layered novel with several POV's and two timelines. A gripping and believable read with complex well developed characters. The plot is clever and intriguing with red herrings, twists and turns.
Captivating. Recommended. Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley UK for the ARC.

Excellent writing by Heidi, a real page-turner.
The story twists and turns right from page one. Mariage that looked as if it was on the rocks and the husband who was suspected of foul doings towards his wife. Is it in her mind, is she going mad? Mother in Law who cannot let go of her darling son also gets more involved.
Who do you believe, the Husband, Wife, therapist, or parents of the couple involved and not forgetting the best friend?
A new author for me, I am just about to download a few more of her books.
Thank you Netgalley for letting me read this book.

Erin and Will are happily married with a little girl called Sadie and a dog called Coco. Erin doesn’t talk to her father and rarely sees her mother due to something that happened in the past. Will is very close to his mum Patricia and Erin sometimes feels suffocated by Patricia.
Will gives Erin a present on Valentine’s Day and Erin recoils and feels strange. Since that day Erin and Wills relationship deteriorates- Will accuses Erin of making things up that Erin swears are true and that they actually did happen.
They go to see a therapist called Maggie Day to try and save their marriage. Maggie’s thirteen year old sister Lily had been murdered years before and Maggie never stopped feeling guilty as she was looking after Lily at the time. As the therapy continues Maggie realises that Will and Erin are in a difficult place but she is trained not to side with either of them.
Something comes out during one of the therapy sessions that shocks Maggie and has her reluctantly revisiting her past and the time around her sisters murder. What is the link between them all and how will Maggie cope?
I loved this book and look forward to reading more by Heidi Perks.

What a brilliant and clever story a real page turner couldn’t stop reading.
It starts with a hit and run how did it happen and who did it then we read present day and the story enfolds going backwards and forwards I loved it, who do you believe Erin or Will very hard to know as Maggie their Marriage Counsellor finds out, Erin thinks she’s going mad but is she?
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC

Have always loved Heidi's books and this one certainly didn't disappoint. Told over a six month period , we develop the story behind why Erin has been involved in a massive hit and run incident.
Although she can't explain why, Erin has become afraid of Will and no longer ger trusts him but can't fully explain why. Trying to tackle these issues, they see Maggie, a couples therapist. Maggie is hiding her own secrets and continues to struggle after the murder of her sister many years ago, where the killer was never found.
As the couples therapy progresses Maggie has serious concerns around Wills background, wondering if there is a link with her past. Breaking her work ethical code, she begins to befriend Erin desperate to establish the truth.
An intriguing book which pulled me in from the start and full of twists and an ending I didn't see coming. Highly recommend.

A pacy, easy-to-read thriller which moves seamlessly between past and present whilst the tension builds. The reader is fed snippets of information via Erin and Will's counselling sessions and Erin's conversations with her friend Zoe. Erin's character is brilliantly described, her vulnerability and confusion - is she being gaslighted or is she losing her mind? I would have enjoyed more police involvement as the officer in charge seemed to be a great, if under-developed, character. The last quarter of the book wrapped things up well although by that time I'd come to my own (correct) conclusions.

Another wonderful story from Heidi. It was a real page turner and once started I couldn't put it down. So many twists and turned making for a really good read. I loved the characters of Erin, Will and Maggie. At times it was difficult to know who to believe and trust. Great twist at the end.

I really enjoyed this book that truly kept me guessing all the way through. I found the idea of triggering long lost memories fascinating. All of the characters are totally believable and authentic. Well paced and engaging.

I have read a few of Heidi Perks and loved every one of them. This book may actually be my favourite of hers though. It grips you from the very beginning and I was racing through it to try to unravel everything and solve the mystery. I love the way you are almost drip-fed the information. So good!
Erin and Will Harding had a happy life with their daughter Sadie until one Valentine’s Day when Erin awoke and had a strange sensation when her husband touched her. Things go rapidly down hill from there and there are a lot of things which happen which Erin questions.
Maggie Day is a couples’ therapist and agrees to see Erin and Will to try to work through the issues they appear to be having. Maggie has issues of her own, her sister was murdered when she was only 14 and the man convicted of her murder is soon to be up for parole. Maggie does not know what to make of the Harding’s. Erin is convinced of the things that have/are happening with regards to her husband and he is denying that they are and getting frustrated with Erin. Is Erin telling the truth? Could it be that Will is gaslighting her?
As I say, I raced through the book and would highly recommend it.
