Menacing, Compelling..
Has Erin truly suffered the accident they say happened? Or, is she a victim of something far more sinister? The questions are there from the off. Who to trust in this tension fuelled and suspenseful tale where there are always two sides to the same story. In a nicely penned dual timeline and multiple narrative format, the reader is pulled into a menacing and compelling read. Characters are both credible and deftly drawn, the plot peppered with twists and red herrings. Will the truth out?

This is a slow burn, character based novel but it had me completely hooked with how cleverly written it is! I'm not normally one for character based books but the multiple povs and the complexity of the characters aswell as having these tiny reveals peppered in that shift the entire landscape just made me unable to put it down til I got to the end! Anyone who likes psychological thrillers will love this

A well written page turner.

This may seem more slower paced than others on the market, however it is a fantastic character build of a novel and this makes it infinitely more fascinating as the characters and their histories develop.

A highly recommended read from a brilliant author.

It starts with a woman, Erin, being brought into hospital after a hit and run. She is separated from her husband, Will and this immediately raises suspicion. But there are other things too. The novel goes back and forth between present and past so that we find out more about Erin and Will's marriage and just how estranged they are.

I enjoyed this novel especially at the beginning when I had no idea what was going on. When it got into the more familiar territory of gaslighting I found it less engaging. However it's a good read overall and will appeal to people who like psychological thrillers. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC.

A brilliant psychological thriller.
The story is told from different points of view and is very well written.

The Last Resort is told from multiple points of view, and shifts between now when a terrible accident (or crime) has happened, and the months and weeks in the lead up to it. I read this novel in one sitting as it's a page turner packed with suspense. I was hooked by the story and wanting to know what was going on, who was lying or telling the truth, and what had happened in the lead up to Erin being in hospital. Of course nothing is as it seems. I recommend this novel to fans of psychological thrillers.

A brilliant novel cleverly told from multiple points of view. I particularly enjoyed the psychological aspects and how each person's story was woven together; as you delve further into their stories your perception of what the truth is continuously changes. Definitely worth reading!

Not a bad read wasn't as fast paced as I'm used to with Heidi's books, but a good story with a nice bit of a twist

I found this an exciting story. There are many time shifts as the reader is moved between then and now. Initially it seems that the main couple are moving apart and cannot communicate. As the story progresses, it becomes clear that there is something else happening and the couple are obviously in the dark. Eventually the solution is revealed and disaster strikes.
I enjoyed the book and was keen to pick it up again to read more.

Wow, I was totally blown away by this book!

Heidi Perks has been on my TBR list for a while now so I was very excited to request 'The Last Resort.' Eerie and chilling right from the first page, this was a beautiful and cleverly written novel that had me racing to the end to find out what happened.

I'm not usually a fan of jumping back and forth between past and present but the author executes this perfectly to create tension and drama and it had me hooked.

I loved the idea of repressed memories and how the story all came together at the end, it kept me guessing throughout.

I have already bought 'The Other Guest' and am excited to delve into her other novels.

This is a must-read for anyone who loves a mind-twisting thriller.

Fast paced thriller.

What a page turner. Read so fast I couldn’t wait to find out the end.

Love this author and the way she keeps you in suspense right until the last chapter. .
There are so many seeds planted throughout this book you wonder who’s done what and how it is all connected. But it comes together in the end and a classic twist that you’d never see coming.

Loved the characters and how this book was told from their side of the story. Such an easy and enjoyable read.
Highly recommend it!

I really enjoyed this book. It centres around Erin's and Will's marriage and repressed memories. Can they find the truth about Lily's killer? Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.

Erin and Wills marriage is in trouble. Feelings that Erin cannot explain lead her to believe her husband is lying to her. From being a happy wife and mother, Erin no longer trusts her husband and Will appears confused and unhappy. They decide to go to couples therapy, but even an experienced therapist as Maggie is, she doesn't know who to be believe, who the liar is in this marriage. Maggie finds her own feelings playing a part too. Then Erin is taken to hospital in a serious condition, the victim of a hit and run incident. Someone must know something about this, family and friends are all under suspicion, as Erin knows something that someone does not want her to tell.
This was the first book I had read by this author, I will definitely be reading more. It was a real page turner, I suspected everyone in turn, and was kept guessing until the last page.

The last resort by Heidi Perks was a fantastic engrossing thriller which hooked up from start to finish and what an ending it was. With great character development I could not work out what was going on and who was telling the truth.

It is told from multiple perspectives and going from to past to present. Which helped build up the suspense. Erin and Will, married for years and with a young child have unexpectedly reached a crisis point in their marriage. They both don’t know why things have deteriorated so much in such a short time. The couple decide to go to marriage counselling with a woman called Maggie Day. After a few visits Maggie doesn’t know how who to trust and believe. Erin says she does not trust Will and that she feels scared of him but cannot explain why. Will says is wife is lying when she mentions various incidents that she claims have taken place between the two of them. Then Erin is brought into hospital in a critical condition following a hit and run accident.

Fantastic thriller which had me blown away with ending. Highly recommend this to everyone excellently written. My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.

The Last Resort is an amazing thriller told throughout multiple POV's. Erin is the victim of a hit and run and as we go back to the last six months we start to see the true story of what happens through Erin and her husband Will. I didn't see any of the twists coming and I was blown away by how well everything linked up in the end. I couldn't put this down and thought this was a brilliant thriller and a quick read I highly recommend.

Well this book went in a direction I was not expecting so that’s a good sign of a good author. I really enjoyed this dark thriller about a therapist trying to help two new clients when everything changes for all of them. If I say anything else it will spoil it but you won’t be disappointed.

Erin and Will, a long-standing couple - married for over a decade and with a young child - have unexpectedly reached a crisis point in their marriage. They both describe themselves as having been happily married for many years and are desperate to understand why things have deteriorated so much in such a short time.

When the couple go together to visit a marriage counsellor, Maggie Day also finds herself struggling to make sense of it all. Erin says she does not trust Will and that she feels scared of him but cannot explain why. Will says is wife is lying when she mentions various incidents that she claims have taken place between the two of them.

It would be unfair to describe this book simply as a psychological thriller, because the character development displays far greater depth than you would normally see in a work of that kind. Heidi Perks has intimately examined the psyche of her 2 key female characters in particular, and really succeeds in bringing them to life in the reader's mind.

My only criticism of this book is that it took some time to warm up, so it was hard to see where the story was going, and the first few chapters could do with some tightening in terms of editing. But having said that, this is easily one of the most interesting books I have read in a while - and I read a lot of books!

The story is nuanced, clever, and very confusing. Deliberately so, given the number of red herrings that Perks sends the reader's way. The result is a book that hugely picks up the pace after a slightly slow start, and does not let up until the last page. The twists are, well, fairly twisted. This is definitely worth a read for anyone who enjoys domestic dramas as well as those who like psychological thrillers.
