I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book but found it a fascinating read. I was stuck changing my mind every minute about whether she was guilty and faking it or something else all together and then when it all came together everything was turned on its head. Great read that I couldn’t put down.

I struggled with the 'draft' format of this but realised it would be fixed before release. it was suspensful, engaging, surprising and I only found out when looking at other reviews this was a debut which makes it that bit better!

Intriguing book about a subject that rarely comes to public attention - sleep walking. The main characters are all damaged people and the reader is aware of all relevant details from their perspective.

Everyone has an interest in the criminal activity which may or may not be affected by political interests. Several different crimes/ perpetrators and their stories overlap creating a complex plot that keeps the reader on their toes.

NB I had read 50% but stopped because of the formatting which was so poor as to spoil my enjoyment. I will buy this book when it is released.

This is an amazing debut. It’s almost a classic in my eyes such is the amazing content, story, pace, characters and oh it’s brilliant!
I’ve just said to my book friends it’s one of those that you want to read fast to find out what’s happening but also savour every last word. Extremely likely to be a film too in my mind.

This is highly engaging well written book that will keep you guessing right until the end. I can see why there was such a demand for the title amongst publishers as it is the sort of title that will grip the public imagination.

Very enjoyable a solid 4.5 stars

Anna O - Matthew Blake.

Suspense in Spades.

The Sleeping Beauty and the prince but who is the wicked stepmother? Not a fairy tale but a nightmare. A twisty tale of deception and revenge. I couldn’t put it down.

When Ben Prince is called to use his skills as a forensic psychologist on Anna O the top security prisoner who has been in a deep sleep for four years after murdering two friends in cold blood he jumps at the chance. This will re energise his career and prove his theory on awakening those in a permanent state of sleep.

As he becomes obsessed with Anna and her case he digs deeper convinced that she is innocent of the double murder she is accused of.

The novel a multi person narrative swings back and forth from the past to the present. Complex and compelling it keeps us on our toes with its ever shifting ground. Who do we believe, who do we trust?

A great read for all lovers of suspense and psychological drama.

Anna O by Matthew Blake

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A very gripping read full of unexpected turns! I was hooked as soon as a read the description for this book as it seemed to have a similar vibe to The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. Safe to say I was not disappointed with this book!

The chapters were quick enough to keep reading a few on a break at work and still keep you intrigued and there were twists right until the very end! Some of which were predictable in a way but didn’t take away any enjoyment from the book at all!

The only negative wasn’t anything by to do with the author or book at all but the format I read it it. I usually send my NetGalley books to kindle in order to read and did so with this book. Unfortunately the formatting broke up a bit and it was a bit difficult to follow the page at times because of this. Again though this was nothing to do with the book at all and I throughly enjoyed it!!

A very interesting read that was challenging in so many ways!

I was totally taken aback by the ending. Authors like Matthew Blake are so creative.

It was not an easy read though! I felt that at the end of the book I would be awarded a post graduate diploma in psychology at the very least!

The plot was outstanding and the characters posed lots of questions for the reader in trying to discern what was happening at any point!

A high concept, dark twisty thriller.
Anna Ogilvy hasn’t opened her eyes for four years.
She committed the crime of the century - but nothing or no one could wake her from the nightmare.
“I am terrified by this dark thing that sleeps in me” - Sylvia Path
Believers in her innocence call her Anna O and believers in her guilt call her Sleeping Beauty.

Beautifully written, addictive and well plotted with a multiple layered storytime
Loved the unique premise of the suspected murderer being asleep.

Thanks @matthew_blake @harperfiction & @netgalley for the eARC

Absolutely love this book. It was so cleverly written about such a fascinating subject. Is it possible to do things when you are asleep and not be aware what you did? Is it possible to commit murder? This is exactly the case that Ben comes across as a psychologist specialising on sleep disorders. The case of Anna O who is accused of murdering two of her friends while asleep. Since the incident Anna has been asleep for 4 years in Broadmoor hospital. The book is written from differ t perspectives and timelines, each chapter leaving you on the edge of your seat and desperate to know what’s coming. Throughout I had my own ideas of what had occurred but the twist at the end I definitely did not see coming and left me feeling really sad. Such an interesting and thrilling read

Although a bit too slow paced for me, it was still very intriguing and "twisty". Found it very interesting and unique in many ways. Highly recommend this one! Thanks to NetGalley, the editor and the author for the opportunity to access this copy.

First, thank you to the publisher, author and Netgalley for the privilege of reading this book. The blurb was intriguing, with a unique premise. It had Silent Patient vibes which drew me in. The pacing, however, is slow, which I wasn’t expecting. The book felt very dense, not only with backstory, but technical details that didn’t feel as if the plot was progressing. Every time I felt the story was picking up, and gaining momentum, the narrative shot off in a different direction, leaving me a little bemused.

The writing style is engaging and this excited me at the outset. The ending was not unexpected, but again, well written and well delivered. However, I felt there was a lot of repetition (Harry Potter references) and the story wasn’t pulling me in as I’d hoped.

I liked the characters, but didn’t really connect with them. I wanted to, but they fell a little flat for me. Overall, I gave the book 4 stars because I didn’t feel as excited to get back into it each time I put it down. This is definitely a book for discussion in book clubs. So I would recommend it.

Intriguing, dark, secretive. A book that will draw you in, and an interesting view of how extreme cases are dealt with by government and police.

Warning for some dark descriptive killing scenes, including animals.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I found the idea of this story really intriguing, but unfortunately found it quite difficult to really get into. I generally prefer slightly faster paced thrillers but I would recommend it for readers who enjoy slower burns. The ending however did feel a bit rushed. Thank you for the chance to read this ARC!

Enjoyed this, a twist on a Whodunit where the only person that knows what happened is asleep and has been since the murders. Or does someone else know more than they should?
Thanks to Netgalley for this ARC in return for my honest review

An absolutely gripping adventure, through to the very end for me. I was completely absorbed by the who, why and how! And I never would have got it. Totally hooked until the very last page. Wow. An incredible read, completely different to my normal ones and I'm so pleased.
Thank you to the author, publisher and netgalley for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

The story centres around Anna Ogilvy, more famously known as Anna O after killing her two closest friends of which since then, she has been in some sort of deep sleep for the last four years. Dr Benedict Prince is an expert in sleep disorders whose prayers are answered when his expertise is called upon to try and rouse Anna so she can stand trial.

You will be constantly questioning yourself throughout as to whether Anna really did kill her friends and if so, was it intentionally or not. The story flicks between present day as well as to chapters in Anna’s diary so we get to know more about her personally and what her life was like before everything happened. I could feel some sympathy towards Anna but my thoughts kept switching as to whether she was guilty and all throughout I was never really sure. Benedict is a man struggling with his professional and personal life. He needs to be able to wake Anna up to get his career back on track although sadly it’s a little to late for his marriage. I did have empathy for his character and was hoping all would turn out good for him as things begin to take a more sinister turn.

Anna O is a book that there has been a lot of noise about and I can understand why. It is dark with a sinister undertone that really will have you guessing right up until the very end. The story evolves into so much more than I had imagined with totally unexpected twists and turns. For a debut novel it’s quite ambitious but the author has pulled it off and it has left me excited for, I hope, more novels written by him. A totally mess with your head type of story that crime thriller fans are all going to be talking about.

This one had Silent Patient vibes and I loved that book.
This book was a lot more factual I would say, it seemed a bit more clinical. I liked the different points of view and enjoyed trying to work out the characters.
The twists at the end were good but felt the last couple chapters were added on.
Overall a decent read as I wanted to find out the end but not as thrilling as I was hoping.

This story is a psychological roller coaster with the final twist totally unexpected. The complex connections between the characters are well thought out and the technical details of the workings of the human mind must have involved a great deal of research. Congratulations to Matthew Blake for this book.

This is a clever book which is a bonus for some and possibly not for others. I really enjoyed it. I can see how the continual references to psychological theories and experiments may lose some readers' attention with its academic language. That said it's the most fascinating part of the book for me.
I love finding a book that is unique. Anna O is most definitely that. The premise is fascinating and the exploration around the murders she allegedly committed is tense.
The ending is quite something!
